I like to travel light; and on my latest trip I needed a telephoto (EF 70-300mm f4-5.6L IS) and ultra-wide for the wildlife and landscapes - but there would be a lot of insect and small reptiles too - I didn't really want to pack a macro so I looked around for a close up filter to fit a 67mm. I'm a little disappointed with the results - now it may depend on what lens your drop this onto - but the results are not particularly good on the EF 70-300L at any focal length - the workable range is around 100-120mm. It fairs better on an EF-S 18-135mm, but still very poor compared to a decent macro lens.
