This is such a simple idea but so much fun can be had. i bought it for my 2 year old son, and I think that it is a great toy for children from about 1 to 4 years old (I think by 5 they will have got all they can out of it). My son isn't so interested in sorting and stacking, although he does do it a little. When I gave it to him a few days ago he couldn't thread yet - but he has learnt how to in no time, and has also learnt 'through the middle'and 'pull it through'- which are completely new concepts to him. So within a few days he has made a dramatic step forward in terms of manual dexterity, and learnt some new words/concepts. Great. He doesn't want to play with it all the time - but it is something that I can resort to on a rainy day.I bought it because of the rave reviews and the price, and i am very happy - good simple fun. I wish more toys were like this.It would be good if there was another thread supplied, but one is ok.

I bought this after my little boy was kept "quiet" for an hour by this toy which belonged to a friend of mine. That same week, the health visitor also used a version of this toy with which she assessed his development at his two year health check. I knew it was a winner and couldn't wait to give him this gift at Christmas. He said "oh wow" when he opened it as he knew what it was and it did indeed do its job. He loves to thread these cotton reels or bobbins for hours. They are brightly coloured so he plays with the different colours separately and then he plays about with the rope. The only draw back is perhaps the lenght of the rope, not entirely safe if your a paranoid mum like me and has visions of him wrapping it round his neck but supervised (like any toy or play) it is absolutely fine. If you want your little one to be amused for a while (e.g. while traveling) this toy is hard to beat. Simplicity itself.

I was introduced to cotton reels at a sensory class I attended with my son and he just loves them! These are the cheapest and best quality I have found and have been a huge hit for my son who is now 10 months. The box contains a very solid rope and 20 plastic cotton reels in 4 colours ... Blue, Yellow, Green and Red. They are very well made and I feel very confident in allowing my son to play or inevitably chew on them.I feel they will be used for years to come and are a great way to introduce colours and counting. He is now sliding the reels up and down the rope and learning he can swing the rope and put it over his head, which is very cute! Great for hand eye coordination. This is a lovely 'old school'toy/educational item which offers great interaction and play with your child. I would highly recommend.

The cotton reels themselves are fantastic! I use them with a home made 'posting tin' with kids aged from 1 - 4. In case anyone's interested, you get one of those 'sharing' tubs that you get snacks (Twiglets, cheese footballs etc) in at Christmas, trace round one of the ends of the cotton reels in the middle of the lid, cut out the circle shape and show the children how to post the reels in. Literally hours of entertainment! However, for some reason they've changed the thread that comes in the box, specifically the plastic coated end, making it much smaller and harder to manage which is a shame. the first set I bought the thread was great!

I've bought this educational toy for my nephew. There are 20 cotton reels in four different colours so five of each in Red, Blue, Yellow amd Green. Also a thick threading string. That's it! The reels are of standard size and are perfect for little hands to handle as is the string. The reels are well finished so no sharp bits at all as you'd expect. They are great! So many uses for stacking up, colour sorting, counting, threading of course which kids love! You could even play in water with the reels I suppose? My nephew is two soon so a perfect age I think for these as preperation for early nursery as well as them being fun!

Bought these for my one year old grandson because at the moment he loves threading things on to wool etc. The rope that comes with these reels is very sturdy and perfect for his little fingers to hold while threading. These reels are recommended for 3+ but as long as you are there to supervise, a younger child would be fine with them. They are brilliant for stacking too and are helping me to teach him how to say his colours. Oh and by the way - they make a good loud noise when he bashes one on the wooden side table, much to his delight. My daughter's nursery use these cotton reels so they come highly recommended.

The toy is very good quality, solid plastic and a well made lace. In addition to lacing, the reels can be used for colour sorting, stacking, making stamps on play dough and all sorts of other activities. I bought this for a 18 months old, he doesn't have any issue with putting the lace in one end of the eel, but because it is a bit long, he doesn't understand yet that he has to push a little further so the lace comes on the other side. I'd say that for a young child, you might want to find a lacing toy with smaller beads. I'm still glad I bought this as it has a lot of potential for future use.

I bought this at around 15 month stage for my daughter initially it was the bright coloured reels she played with ... then started two try and put the lacing string through different holes and around 2 year stage she had perfected it ... we have since gone ahead and invested on other lacing material. excellent because keeps them busy, guessing and exploring ... its fun to watch a little one try put the lace again and again and follow the same steps repeatedly... good carry case though quite big compared to the toy. well made and the paint hasn't come off or didn't find any sharp edges.

This may be a simple toy but so versatile with the things that can be done with it: Threading, building, colour coding, counting, etc.I got them for my 2 year old and he was very happy with them, the string is easy enough for toddlers to manage the threading themselves and it's a really good activity for their fine motor skills. He also really enjoyed collecting and sorting the different colours. And the price for this is amazing, really good value for money and the product is very durable too the reels are not flimsy at all but very sturdy, don't seem easily breakable

Bought these for Xmas for my daughter who is 2yrs 9mths & she loves them. We have made a long caterpillar & a long snake & she loves them. Great for colour sorting, counting, stacking/balancing & hand eye co-ordination. We combine them with the threading buttons for even more fun, her colour recognition has developed significantly in the last few weeks and playing with these will help even more.Very educational in every way, will probably purchase another set so we can have a snake each !!!

What's not to love? 20 coloured cotton reels and a nice long thick piece of cord for threading. I tie the knot at the end of the cord, and my just turned 3 year old will happily sit threading the reels without any problems, before tipping them off and starting again. Loads of fun! She also had her almost 9 year old sister begging to let her play. It's the simple things that keep them amused! Improves dexterity, keeps your kids quiet and cheap to boot, can't get better than that!

my toddler is starting to use hes fine motor skills a lot more and i bought this for him to practice with so it would help. the end of th string is a little fiddly to get thru, but i think once he got the hand of it he was fine. i did actually think it would be a little bigger it had a good variety of colours in the box , and the box packaging is a little different to that of the picture but product still appears to be fine, hes not gotten bored of it yet.

Bought this for my one year old, it's a good price and will have a long shelf-life. He loves it now - he plays with the reels individually, they're good for little hands and there are lots of ways we can play in the future, they can be used for learning colours, stacking, rolling, threading, banging together etc. They're also good for slipping into a bag for a bit of entertainment on the move as they're quite versatile and quite compact. Recommend.

brought these a couple of years ago mislaid them so decided to buy these again they are a really good buy not only can your child learn there basic colours but theyre great for there fine motor skills and hand eye coordination i would strongly recommend ADULT SUPERVISION AT ALL TIMES due to the cord used to thread the reels on also the reels are small for under 4's.other than that theyre great for pre school learning!

Simple, colourful, educational, hardwearing and most of all FUN. This is a great toy, great for hand and eye coordination, learning colours, numbers and imagination. Most of all it's fun, for both my two and a half year old grandson and myself. I had lots of fun watching him play with this toy and joining in with him.I would recommend this toy for two and a half to approximately five years old. (and grandmas too)
