Having a recognisable name is half the battle when it comes to toys and everyone knows that the best battle cards are Top Trumps. However, how can Top Trumps expand their market beyond selling packets of cards? Rubix did it recently by creating loads of games and toys that have the Rubix name, but are not the cubes. It seems that Top Trumps are after something similar with their Match Games and in this case the 'Disney Princess Top Trumps Match Game'.As a board game of sorts, it is excellent. It feels like a variation on 'Connect 4' but uses cubes to mix up what matches you can find. The players sit opposite one another and take turns putting a cube in trying to get five in a row.

The Top Trumps DC Comics Match Cube Game is presented in a sturdy plastic box that serves as the stand and the storage container. There are fifteen popular DC Comics heroes and heroines; each face of the cube shows a different character. The stand with which one plays is nicely made and there are no rough edges. There is a set of fifteen small cards, one for each of the characters.The game is colourful and visually appealing. Can Top Trumps expand their market beyond selling packets of cards? Top Trump Match Games may just be the solution. 'Fingerlings Match Board Game' is an iteration of this Match Game and uses the brand that anyone with a 5-10 year old will probably be aware of. I know them best from the little surprise packs you can get that contain one of the creatures that wraps around your finger.'Fingerlings Match Board Game' takes the imagery of the brand and puts it onto a variation on 'Connect 4' but uses cubes to mix up what matches you can find. The players sit opposite one another and take turns putting a cube in trying to get five in a row. This in turn pushes out a cube on the other side and that player has to add this one back in.

This toy is basically a connect 5 toy. The grid is a 5 by 5 grid with cubes filling the 25 slots. The aim is to get five of one of the characters that appears on one of the faces of the cube in a row either horizontally, diagonally or vertically. This is done on a battleships style board so you can only see your side and don’t know what the other player’s board looks like. You take it in turns to push out a cube and replace it with the one that was pushed out on the turn before. First to get 5 of the same face in a row gets a point. This can be increased to two points if the player’s character in their completed row matches one of the two cards (from 15 possible options)

This is a really fun game for two people to play and is great for a bit of family fun. The object of the game is to get 5 characters in a row either diagonally, vertically or horizontally. The game does take a little bit of getting used to and although the ages on the packet say it can be played from age 4, my suspicion is that at this young age the rules may not be strictly adhered to and it may just be fun popping the cubes out and putting them back again. Older children will find more to work with in the game as you do need to think about different elements and have a bit of a plan. We have played this with a 6 year old girl who loved it and really enjoyed being matched against adults.The game itself seems well constructed and is not flimsy in any way.

After my two boys saw the new release of Toy Story 4 they were thrilled to receive this game from Top Trumps. My eldest who is four years old picked up the rules of the game with ease. It is simple enough for him to enjoy, fast paced enough to keep his attention and has enough variations to allow for longer gameplay. My youngest who is a young three and rather boisterous was kept engaged long enough by the game however he obviously didn't understand the rules. This is fine as it does say on the box it is suitable for four plus. But I was happy that he still enjoyed playing with it with help from me.The cubes are a good size for little fingers practicing their dexterity,

This is a good idea, the game can be played two way, a simple one for younger children and a bit more complicated for older children.Out of the box the game comes ready to play, the design of the game is that there are two plastic covers for either side of the case with a handle at the top for it to be carried. This keeps everything together very nicely and should help avoid bits going missing.This is called a top trumps match game, i think it is more like connect 4 though, the top trumps doesn't really read right with this, there are some cards with this that can be used as part of the game but the top trumps i remember was all about beating someone with better stats on cards.This game really

Despite the lure of online games, I am pleased to say that there is still a place for board games of all kinds. Aimed at ages 4+ this is both fast, and easy, to play and it looks bright and colourful. This game involves matching five Disney Princess cubes in a row – either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. This is for two players and my daughter and niece were really happy to try this out as they are huge Disney Princess fans.As such, it is a sort of Connect 4 game, but there is a twist to the game at the end involving the cards you are dealt, which makes it a little more interesting for older children (if you are playing with very young children, you could just forget this part of the game to make it easier).

This game using Disney Frozen animated film as a selling medium is near to knots and crosses but using bricks. It comes all in one container like a little suitcase with clear sides to keep everything together, This is also the board that you use to play. The sides fold down to hold some cards and the bricks as you play. For two people who sit on either side of the game. Each block has 8 pictures of the different characters from the film and what each player is trying to do is get 5 blocks with the same picture in a row either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. A larger longer version of knots and crosses. Each player is given two cards from a small pack which you can use at the end to alter the result.

So I had fairly low expectations of this game, but it has proven to be a big hit. I have wonderful childhood memories of Connect 4 and this game has some similarities, in that you have to make a line - in this case you need to have 5 of the same picture, rather than your own colour and the other player doesn't know which pictures you are going for and where and you play the game by pushing the starting block through at the beginning and then the other player has to push out another block using the first, replacing it and therefore the picture on their side (and therefore on your side too). The game can be quite quick, but often it takes longer than you expect - so some patience is required for the standard game.

My two nephews played this game (with me as referee) they are 7 and 9. The older child is a bad loser and has endless patience. The younger child has no attention span and tends to win everything without even trying or getting bored and wandering off before a game is finished. I ended up playing this game with my oldest nephew!Pros- No batteries required!!- Fairly easy to set up- different versions of the game- Easy to transport- folds up into its own case, which holds all the cubes and cards in place- Although cubes are small pictures are different enough to be easily differentiated, even for a poor old grown up like me!- Easy to play the game on the move,

My daughter aged 7 likes the game, which I could describe as a variation on a marriage between Connect 4 and Battleships.The product itself is robust and well made and can be transported in its own case and kept tidy and in one place for storage. I think the age rating is about right but slightly older players will get more out of if. Younger players may just think the game is about pushing cubes out rather than the objective of getting five cubes in a row.It is a simple game with a slight hint of strategy but in general I don't think little ones will think too much about which cube to push out. At first sight, the game board looks rather like Guess Who. The board stands upright, and has a grid of 5x5 square holes, in each of which is a cube; each face of the cube has a different Toy Story character.One player starts the game by pushing out the cube on the top left, and then uses it to push out another cube. In an era when practical games are having to compete with TVs and computers, it's good to see the fun and accessible alternative entertainment from Top Trumps. It's a bit like Connect-4 but cranked up a bit to make it more competitive and unpredictable. The idea is to make a row of five matching pictures, but pushing cubes into an upright board, one at a time, pushing out a cube in the process. This is simple back-and-forth gameplay.
