My wife picked up an extendable lead from a well know large regional pet shop for £16.99.....it's larger and more cumbersome than this flexi lead and also a lot shorter.....a full 5 meters shorter!!We do a lot of walking in the North Yorkshire moors and a lot of places require you to have your dog on the lead at all times due to lambs and sheep....this lead still gives him the freedom to roam around while still being under full control. It feels nice and strong and at no point have I felt it was going to fail....for reference my dog is approximately 10 kilos. The trigger stop mechanism is feather lite as well and so easy to operate, it only requires the lightest of touches and you can stop the lead from running out any more very easily. My dog can't outrun the cord return speed either which is good. It very rare any line is dragging on the floor. At £8.49 this is an absolute bargain for what you get. Plus the fact you can add accessories to it if required is great too, my next purchase is the soft stop lead just to give my dog a little more comfort if he runs out of line.Just a couple of points to consider. 8 meters of cord gives your dog plenty of time to get up to full running speed so I would suggest only using this with a body harness and the soft stop lead. Also if you are planning on using this around a lot of people watch out the cord getting wrapped around peoples legs, as the cord is so thin it's like a cheese wire and can leave a nasty friction burn on bare skin.

This is a review for the “flexi VARIO Cord, Small, 8 m, Pink”I purchased this lead via the Amazon Warehouse deals. I’ve always used a fixed length lead but decided to give this lead a go as I wanted my dog to have more freedom on our walks along canal paths or pavements but still allow me to have control should a bike come whizzing past or the dog see’s a cat and decides it will be fun to chase it.The lead itself is really comfortable and ergonomic. The grip has plenty of space for your hand and has a rubber feel texture which is soft and great should you have cold hands on early morning walks. The retraction of the extending cable works well and I've had no issues at all with it getting tangled. There is also a great feature which allows you to customize the lead with different accessories such as poo bag holders, LED cable etc. All of these you have to purchase at an extra cost but it’s nice to have this feature should you wish. The lead also came with a safety collar strap which you can attach alongside your own dogs collar which works as a back up should the D ring break on your own dogs collar. Personally I don’t use this as the lead/collar combo I’m using feel really robust for the size of dog I have but again it’s a great extra feature which I’ve seen some others don’t provide.I've recommended a friend get one of these leads too as I’ve been so impressed. I own a Jack Russell and I'd say the Small for me was the perfect size.

Finally replaced an inherited model that must be 15 years old (donated by Mum!) and there is no doubt that the 8 metres length, instead of the previous 5, is well worthwhile. I also ordered the ‘soft stop belt’ attachment and that is, in my oppinion, an essential purchase because of the lack of jolt that it delivers when my dog reaches the end of the line at full speedWell thought out design ... the adjustable hand grip to ensure that your thumb is in the right position to halt or lock the cord ... and an internal spring and guide mechanism that always achieves a rapid re-wind when it is requiredMy dog is quickly learning that she has 8 metres of sniffing before she has to leapfrog me to the next spot ....while I just continue ambling along without constant stopsYou will see that I have added an extra small length of lead to the end of the lead .... this means that, at It’s shortest reach, it does not tangle others with nylon cord

Great item, had been looking for a while for a small sized lead that was long. I'd ordered the medium version at Christmas but it is a bit big for me hand wise and for carrying so finding the small 8m lead was ideal.I also purchased the dispenser which attaches into the back of this, which is ideal for making sure you are never caught short for poo bags. Another purchase was the soft lead attachment which gives bounce at the end rather than the ridged end included, if your dog is eager to get going it softens the pang on his neck and the pang on your arm. Would definitely buy another one of these when mine is done but hopefully that wouldn't be for a while.Makes walking the dog more pleasurableas when I need to keep him on the lead I know hes got good length to sniff about.

Our Jack Russell regards it as a game for the first few minutes of any walk to attack the lead resulting in the nylon webbing near the hook being finally detached. He has even bitten through the cord in one bite which then retracts inside and they are not able to be dismantled to repair them.It was getting expensive on retractable do leads and the ones from Poundland were not good enough. This one now has a first line of defence as the piece he destroys first can be interchanged. I also bought the elasticated end fitting which he seems to accept more and is more comfortable on both of us in the first couple of minutes.Oddly he walks perfectly on a lead once we have gone through this pantomime routine and even advice from dog trainers have failed to cure.

Having already had two Flexi leads, both with the material leash I was left disappointed with them, they both ended up not retracting as they became twisted on the recoil. I decided to opt for a cord version to take away the potential of cord twisting. So far it's had two uses and seems to work well. Only time will tell though. The cord does seem really thin. My sister has a fake flexi lead from the pound shop with a thicker cord. I am hoping that its a stronger material though. You can purchase different attachments for this lead and I have bought the poo bag box, the soft stop attachment and the duo belt. All work well and are really handy.

Excellent lead. Does what it says on the box and very easy to use. I would recommend.I am updating my review as I have just bought another of these leads in red this time. I bought the last one in April 2018, in black, and also bought the soft-stop extention to go with it. Both have stood the test of time so far and the only reason I am replacing it is because my girl has chewed the cord on occasions and I am afraid it is just too thin now in places. Had she not done so it would still be fully functioning, hence my buying another. I will transfer the soft-stop extension as that is still good. I would still recommend without hesitation.

I've been using this lead for a few months now, along with the duo belt, to take 2 cavalier puppies on walks. It's very well made and the mechanism used to adjust the length is simple and effective (especially compared to some cheaper ones I've used). It's also easy to change the lead accessories over (literally takes seconds). One small gripe is that sometimes the cord doesn't retract as quickly as I'd like, but it is smooth, so I can't complain much.I would be interested to try the tape version of this lead, but as it costs more, I'm not sure it would be that much better, as this cord version works very well.

I have not gone looking for another dog lead since I have owned this one. In fact, once this wears out I will buy another. Inevitably you cannot always control the chord and so there is a nick in mine where my dog turned a sharp corner and bolted snagging this on a metal railing. It is still as strong as ever but I will be replacing it with another for piece of mind soon. One word of caution, the plastic clip mechanism that joins the tape part to the chord part is a focus of attention for young puppies and they will likely try and chew through it. We stopped using it to tie ours up until he got out of the habbit.

Bought this to use on my cat's harness as the default cord didn't give much leeway. This is a lovely upgrade. very comfortable to hold, particularly due to the rubber grips. (I also bought a size M in black without the rubber grips - this is definitely more comfortable to hold)Only issue I find with these in general is, when the owner isn't holding the lead and the pet walks with the cord attached for e.g to the main door, it drags across the floor making it uncomfortable for the pet and damaging for the lead casing. I guess that would apply to all retractable lead casings compared to loose strings.

Skip's ancestry is eclectic to the extent that he has so many breeds in his bloodline he has passed through merely mongrel and is now a pedigree mongrel, which probably explains why he still insists on his country park walks at 17 years old. Alas, with age comes failing eyesite and direction sense. This lead is perfect. He has the freedom to follow his whims and uses the lead to keep himself on track behind me. Even though he is 20kg+ the strength of the lead is entirely academic, at anything approaching 30 Newtons of force he falls over.

Great quality lead. 8m length is perfect for our little Cavapoo and the recoil spring strength doesnt annoy her at all and she runs around almost free when its not locked with the lead staying taught. It fits well in all the familys hands and even the kids can reach and use the thumb button. You can either lock the lead at the desired length or use the thumb button to lock the lead in an emergency. Both these functions are available on the same thumb button so no faffing around. All in a great lead and looks like it will last.

Good sturdy lead, it's my second only because my new puppy gets fussy and likes to bite the lead when first out, or his sister's when he tried to annoys her!! Got this one for when he starts to grow out of it.The retractable cord is strong, not like the fabric variety and my old ones (my first dog also has like lead) hasn't got caught or snagged very smooth operation. The handle section is also light and not bulky for me to carry.I've got Terrier cross dogs who are very boisterous and the lead copes well with them.

Having previously had a flexi dog leash I was pleasantly surprised by the advance in design of the new leash. There are a number of innovations, some useful, others not, which are new to this brand. The hand adjuster is quite a good idea and the extra security of the small loop on the end of the leash is quite good too, although if the dog should break his collar it would probably take more than a narrow loop to stop him/her!All in all, a worthwhile purchase which hopefully will give another 12 years of use.

After reading reviews I was worried about which lead to buy! I had been using a "small" Flexi lead 8m" but the mechanisms were wearing out. My new dog is bigger and so I went for a Flexi VARIO med, 8m but concerned it would be too heavy. All I can say is I love it! It is not heavy to use, the lock is very easy and the length is perfect. The longer the better, so would always go for an 8m lead. I have not bought any add ones, so cannot comment but highly recommend the lead, so smooth to use and stress free!
