Easy close waistcoat Velcro straps but very difficult to clip neck/ chest strap - fastening is small, fiddly and tight. Bought for when my rescue cats stay elsewhere when I am away. Not a problem for one cat who made no real resistance and no effort to remove- first attempt saw lead attached and trip outside. Personality traits- 10 year old female, lounge lizard, lap cap, slow stroll round the garden to take in the air, likes to be near but not with you, quietly confident and not easily spooked tends to take things in stride. The other cat is slowly getting used to the harness - left around house, putting on and off for shirt spells. First attempts show critical to fit and adjust chest strap.Otherwise cat can twist and pull head back through followed by rolling on floor which sees it moved down their body till they are free of the constraint. Personality traits- timid, easily spooked 6 year old male who loves being outside but takes a whikevto get his confidence with anything new and then becomes as bold as brace. Used stretch lead on first trip out as visitor in a new garden. He walked easily and was probably unaware he was attached to me until I had to put a minute amount if pressure to stop him venturing round the back of the shed. Result - cat instantly turned on heels and booted for the open back door with me running behind - design and stretchy lead meant no pressure on his body or neck. Must have looked hilarious.I have purchased light weight retractable leads to use as well.

These leads are useful under certain circumstances, but I have to admit I wouldn't use one normally. We bought one recently as we'd just taken on a new rescue dog, and while she hasn't been recall trained yet, we wanted to give her a bit more freedom but keep her safe on a recent holiday walking the coastal paths in Pembrokeshire. The other big advantage of course, is that while you're scrambling up or down hills, the dog isn't going to pull you over, as they're not on a rigid length of lead (they can do some exploring too, and you won't be jerked all around the place). These leads can take a while to get used to, and the danger is you could actually injure your dog if you're not sensible how you use them, but it worked for us on this occasion. I'll admit I was glad to return to using a Halti Training lead though, while the new pooch is being trained.A massive, massive word of warning...please don't let your dog take off, thinking it will stop when it runs to the end of the lead, as you could either injure your dog, or injure your wrist. So 4 stars for a well-built, efficient piece of kit, if you really do need it. But take care!

It's my second Flexi lead - the first one lasted 10 years and have faultless service until my bearded Collie yanked it so hard the spring broke. This one not so much unfortunately. It's almost as well made as the last one but it has a fairly significant design flaw. The old Flexi leads used a cord which shrugged off dirt and water. This design uses a tape which is fine - until it gets wet. At that point it picks up bits of grit which get transferred inside the housing leading to a dreadful scraping, rattling sound as the lead extends. Worse though, when it's wet it stops working - the lead becomes too heavy for the mechanism to retract so it dangles on the ground getting grittier and wetter.Of course, as it's a sealed unit there's no way of getting the grit out our allowing the tape to dry effectively - so once wet it's basically knackered. Pretty fundamental design flaw for me then.I notice there's now an "open" version which was presumably designed to get around these issues - I'd buy that one of I were you.

If you need a new lead then this is it!!!!!!Absolutely first class lead and typically German in both it's build quality, its feel in your hand and the great quality mechanism inside. I have a Jack Russell pup who hated her old standard lead so I thought I would give this one a go as it affords her more freedom whilst still giving me full control. She loves it and now quite happily plods along with us now rather than having her constantly fight the lead every step of the way. The recoil on the lead is fantastic even when the line is fully extended. The locking mechanism is instant and strong with no slippage at all even with 2 adults trying to pull it using considerable force (we were bothsurprised at just how well the mechanism works). All the fittings and the parachute type cord used in the leads construction are of top quality and are VERY strong too. I would HIGHLY recommend this lead for its quality and also the speed of service received from the seller. Yet another 10/10 review from me.

Ive had these leads before and they are always allright, none of my dogs have ever escaped from them, I only replace them because sometimes at the end they fray, not the leads fault my dog does pull sometimes, and its just wear and tear.I have watched the video of the lead coming off the collar, and realy this could happen with any lead, not just this flexi one all leads seem to have the same clip fastener, its something to be aware of, and I am thinking of adding an extra ring just in case, but cant find fault with this lead and allows my dog some freedomI would only use a lead like this when we are away from the road, as that's when I thin k they are dangerous when I see a dog running in front of its owner it makes me shudder,do they realise as far as the dog can get in front it can get to the side as well and in to the road I always use his normal lead for road walking, as I have more control, you do need to know how to use one of these leads

This brand is the easiest extendable lead brand available on the market and we have tried most of them! It's also one of the most competively priced. We would never ever use a cord extendable lead, and this tape one is perfect. It's long enough for our dog to feel she is still free - if she needs to be on the lead, but short enough that she can't get into too much trouble! It is easy to lock at a certain length if you wanted to and it doesn't jerk on the lock like many of the other brands do - which jerks the dog as well. It's lightweight but extremely sturdy, and the onyl reason our old one was replaced with this one is because the dog wrapped the other one round a rose bush which frayed a section of the tape - and although it was still strong, for safety and just in case - we replaced it with the same again. This size is easily strong and sturdy enough for our 10kg dog, despite it being very lightweight to hold and carry

I was after a lightweight lead for my cat Charlie. She likes to go outside every now and then on her harness (we live in the inner city so I'm not comfortable letting her out alone and she hates cars!) but the lead I had for her was too short. I was hoping a flexi lead would let me supervise her expeditions outside without being dragged about with her.I ordered the lead on a Sunday and it came the next day without me having to pay any extra. The pink is just as pictured and matches her harness perfectly.I ordered it in xs as it is for a cat and it is perfectly lightweight however, the handle is a little small to comfortably hold and would have benefited from having a cm bigger handle. All in all its a decent quality lead which operates smoothly and is secure enough to trust. For the price I would definitely recommend.

I bought a different brand retractable lead a while ago for walking our cats, but it was so strong, it lifted them in the air as it was retracting (a bit of a shock for the cats!) so I bought this one as a replacement. It does say extra small, so I thought it would be light enough to leave my cats on the ground and it does just that, very well, so very pleased. The only thing is that the hole in the handle seems to be a little extra small too, so it's a bit fiddly to get my hand through. I think that the manufacturers need to take into account that just because your pet is small, it doesn't mean that the owner is too! It's fine for me, but I can imagine that a larger man might have difficulty.Nonetheless,it is sturdily made and appears to be very good quality.Very happy overall.

Decided on this because the reviews are good and it met all my requirements. Within a couple of weeks though my 6 month old Shiba Inu had already chewed through the lead. She's only a small dog and thought this lead would have withstood a much larger and powerful breed.Update:I emailed the manufacturer to ask if I can get a replacement lead. It took a couple of weeks for them to respond, but I got a really nice personal email from them in Germany. They sent me two new cable ends in the post, free of charge. Also genuinely interested in my feedback and how to make the product better. One solution is to buy a bungee cord,so if your dog chews through its easy to replace the bungee and not affect the Flexi lead.Hopefully there lead will last for many years to come.

Great value extending 8mtr lead for small dogs.Purchased to give our Yorkie pup a bit more freedom, he can freely take as much as he wants though often chooses to walk to heel (ish).Feels well made, good quality metal clip, no bad or sharp plastic mouldings, comfortable to hold and intuitive positive locking mechanism that is easy to operate with your thumb. The recoil/retract has a firm feel, our pup only weighed about 1kg when we first received this lead, it did not pull him back or impede him in any way. When he returns to us - even running at full pelt.... the recoil keeps up with him and does not tangle.Wasn't expecting - but pleased to have reflective material woven into the first thick section of lead, can see this benefit when on a dusk/night-time walk.

I bought this for my frenchie that can pull quite harshly once she catches sight of another animal! I have always been skeptical of retractable leads for pulling dogs, especially near roads after hearing horror stories of people buying off-brand ones for their pets. Unfortunately now that she’s 75% blind, she cannot be let off the lead whatsoever for her own safety and so i decided to cave and buy this one. 8 metres gives her a good amount of leash to be able to run alongside my other frenchie who is off lead. With it being for dogs up to 50kg and her only being 10.5kg, i do not have any worries about it snapping. It’s very sturdy and has held up for the 6 months i’ve had it!I do not regret this purchase one single bit, well worth it for the happiness of my pup.

We've owned this lead nearly a year now, which I guess is pretty long for an extending lead. It's a really good length, so long as you're using a harness not a colour because if your dog is fully extended behind and suddenly breaks into a sprint it's going to be moving fast when it hits the end of the lead. The one problem is it's really easy the chew through the fabric at the bottom if you own a pup who gets overly excited at the thought of a walk. My solution, as it was soon to be a broken lead, was to cut a slice off some old jeans and sew it over the length of the fabric part, wrapping over the bit at the end. This is thick enough that as of yet our dog hasn't chewed through, despite his best efforts.

I am very satisfied with this lead so far. Quite well made, quick delivery and it has been working without any problems for maybe a month at this point. The only point I have to criticise is that this lead will slacken when you limit the range. This means that if you are pulling your dog away from something the line will go slack and you won't easily be able to pull him in further. If you then release the button to shorten the lead the mechanism tends to be so fast that it whips the lead around and either scaring or even hurting the dog. I have had other leads that resolved this by never being slack at all, which I would have preferred on this lead as well.Otherwise,I can recommend this item.

Our previous retractable lead broke one walk, much to the dismay of our energetic hound! Did some research and found this one, was a little skeptical at first as it was half the price of the others I had been looking at, but I went with the reviews, and glad I did. It's incredible sturdy, and the mechanism is so much easier to use than her previous one. also the part were the tape comes out is angled to make it easier on the handler when the dog goes off to the side. She's much easier to control with this one.The only down side is hold it is not as comfortable as her previous one, as that had a rubber grip. But that's the only downside!

I have bought several of these Flexi leads over the years and found them to be the most reliable and sturdiest of retractable dog leads. Once or twice I have opted for a cheaper make but always regretted that when it proved that very cheapness meant having to buy a replacement much sooner than expected. In fact it was shocking how poorly those cheaper alternatives were made, particularly how unresilient the materials they were made from. My personal preference is the corded lead as opposed to the ribbon type because it is impossible for the cord to get tangled around itself or snagged in the aperture as it returns to the reel.
