Like most people I spend time reading reviews before purchasing but have never left a review, but I have decided to leave one for the Flexi Neon retractable dog lead because there were a few things I was not aware of before purchasing the lead and had I know I would have bought it sooner, instead of spending so much time looking at other retractable leads.First off I have a Husky, so I needed a lead strong enough to withstand the pulling power of a husky that will recoil quick enough to avoid legs getting tangled. - This lead is brilliant. it's well made and long enough to let my dog run about as we walk and lets me keep control when needed. It's really well made and good quality.A couple of thing I was not aware of from the description was that the lead comes with a safety loop that can attach to the handle of the lead with the other end around your wrist.I have uploaded a photo of me using it as I can't see mention of it in the description and we were actually looking for this feature because on a previous lead my dog pulled the lead out of my wife's hand and ran off - making her reluctant to use a lead like this when walking near roads. So seeing this in the pack with the lead was fantastic and a total bonus to us.Now both my son and wife can walk the dog without worrying about the lead being pulled from their hand.It will also be useful when wearing gloves are with cold hands. I don't know why they don't make this clearer with the product. It isn't even mentioned anywhere in the instructions. The second point I wasn't clear about until I saw the lead it that the coiled lead is open in the handle and is not encased by the body of the handle. I could see the yellow neon stripe in the photo but assumed it was a sticker on the casing not the actual lead.To me this is a huge plus because having a husky, hair gets everywhere and inevitably some gets on the lead which feeds back into case when it retracts. I'm sure this is what stopped the previous retractable lead we had from retracting quickly like it had done when we first had it. With the spool open it's easy to quickly clean it and clear any hair that would be out of sight and reach in other types of leads.Lastly the neon yellow colour. It says it can help on dark nights - maybe a little, bit but it's not reflective so not sure if it helps.Where it is of a huge benefit is it's clearly seen across a park so where before with my black lead other dog owners further away were not sure with my dog 8m ahead of me if he was on a lead, it's now clear that he is as the yellow is easily seen.It also stops the problem I've had before with cyclist trying to ride in between us only to see the lead at the last minute. Now instead of approaching us at top speed they actually slow down early because they can see the lead.I've saw a lot of reviews saying the dog loves the lead and it's great - I don't know if my dog loves the lead, I'm sure he'd prefer not to be on one, but this lead is an excellent compromise for me wanting him on one and him wanting to run about. So this is my first review because I actually think the lead it that good it's worth coming back to write about it.

Amazon yet again have delivered, I received these on the same day as I ordered, delivery was by prime and as always very efficient. To the product:-After my Briard has gotten bigger faster than expected, strangely my old lead snapped dispite her being 22kg and the lead being rated at 25kg. A new one was needed.Lana is 22kg and when looking for a new lead I was expecting a 25kg lead to be enough but after some research it turns out a 25kg lead is rated like that for a "normal" active dog (See attached picture), so no pulling or bouncing around. But as a 17 week old puppy you try telling that to her. So I went for the mother of all leads, this one.Once i had it out of the packaging I realised very quickly that this thing is truly professional.Theres three things behind this thinking:-1) The handle - The feel of it is exactly like that of Flexi but you grip is thicker. This gives means when you doggy decides to use all of the lead then yank, your grip is not compromised and helps soften the jolt. I would however say that with the extra weight of the lead it is a lot jolt is more extreme than with say a 5m lead.2) The size - Yes its bigger, but what do you expect when it has a 10m tape. the wight is more than manageable and you have to remeber that weight will not always be on your hand as your dog will be using the lead.3) The Tape - its far strong than anything else I've experienced. Even with Lana chewing on it on the odd occasion its shown no sign of wear compared to the old lead. The bright yellow tape is one of the best features, I've found this more than handy when she gets wrapped up in it. The black tape was terrible as its the same colour as her and I had no idea where it was going!Yes its a bit of a head turner with the size and the different styling to ordinary lead however i can vouch for this being the best i've ever owned. If I ever get through this one I will have no problems buying another hopefully identical lead. The only problem I can fault this for is the fact you cant use the mutibox system for poo bags, but as i buy the amazon basics one its comes with a dispenser that attaches to the handle of the lead. Not as neat but I'd much prefer a great lead. All in all an amazing product.

I've used Flexi leads almost exclusively for much of the past 30 years, and the quality of their leads seems to vary greatly, with some lasting years and others barely a few months. Tape leads are, for me, the way to go as the tapes are much harder to break than string leads and my last one only gave out after much use and abuse.Everything about Flexi’s Professional lead screams “heavy-duty”, from its oversized rubber grip to its open spool with a very strong retraction spring; this looks and feels like a lead that will last ages. I particularly like the open spool that leaves the lead exposed when wound-in; the fact that you could put a lead away wet and it would stay that way was always a negative for me,so having it more exposed to the air to aid drying is great. The tape is a nice fluro-yellow colour that makes it clear to other people (even from a distance) that my dogs are on a lead, even if we’re not that close. The tape does tend to twist as it retracts more than any Flexi I’ve used before, but thanks to the open spool it’s easy to see when the tape needs adjusting. But all that loveliness comes at a price, and that price is the weight of the thing. I'm no shrinking violet but even I was surprised at just how heavy this lead is. It’s actually designed to be held with the spool hanging down towards the ground, rather that out towards the front as with standard Flexis, and this is because having the spool pointing frontwards would probably be too much for the average user.I’d also mention that having 10 metres of freedom for my dogs is great, but in truth it's more than I think they would ever need, and the 8-metre version (which is slightly smaller and lighter) would probably have been better for me. 10 metres is a surprisingly long way, after all.I don’t regret buying a Flexi Professional lead for a second; it’s a fantastic lead that feels like it’ll last for years and from now on I’ll keep buying these for as long as Flexi makes them. But for anyone looking at buying one of these, check your needs carefully as the smaller version might be better for you.

I first got this lead 4 years ago. I've only got a relatively small dog (Patterdale), but he's got no road sense whatsoever, and likes to run off chasing anything that moves when we're out in the countryside. So I like to think the 10m lead length gives him the impression he's running free, when he in fact is tethered to the hand that feeds!Anyway. It lasted 4 years of constant twice daily use. That includes probably hundreds of harsh mountain hikes (I live quite near the Yorkshire Dales) and countryside treks. What eventually forced me to need a new one is that the recoil deteriorated meaning the lead would not retract so I had to reel in 10m of lead by hand a few times then roll it up manually.BUT, I think this only happened because I left it to soak in water and bleach for a while to try clean off all the dirt that had ingrained into it over the years. It may have lasted longer if I didn't do that.If you do spend a lot of time out in the country or muddy areas, you'll find dirt does build up and make the lead marginally fatter, which does effect the recoil over time. The one really annoying thing is when the lead is at full stretch it sometimes flips over at the end attached to the handle, then when it reels in it causes a bump, making the rest of the lead not reel back in all the way. Not sure if that's ever fixable. But it's annoying. Also, just a preference of colour, but why does it have to he bright luminous yellow?! Be great if you did a dark version.Attached photos are of the lead being put through it's paces in formidable Yorkshire conditions! And the lead when it finally walked its last walk last week ? I see someone else posted a photo of the lead snapping. There is no way in hell this lead will snap unless the integrity has been damaged by a cut into the material. It's made of the same stuff seatbelts are made of.I worked it out at costing 1.3 pence per walk per day (two walks a day) over 4 years approximately. Not a bad investment.

This is by far and away the best flexi lead on the market. The thing you need to realise with flexi leads is that they should only be used under certain circumstances. They should never ever be used on a public road as the risk is too great that the dog could run out into the road. They should never be used on dogs who are huge pullers and should only be used by dogs who have received correct training.Tips. If your dog launches itself in a hedge do not try and grab the lead, you will end up with burns and scars on your hands. Its also advisable to buy a bungee extension to clip between the lead and your dog to ease the pressure if they reach the end of the lead.My previous black version of this lead lasted 2 years before it decided it was going to give up,that was after it got tangled around brambles, hedges, trees, stones, bricks and other dogs and my legs lolMy dog is a Huskamute and is perfect on her lead. She cannot come off lead because of high prey drive so this allows her the freedom to explore, sniff and just enjoy herself. The neon one is perfect for the winter because its easier for car drivers to spot the lead in the dark if you are walking anywhere without street lights, i live in the country and we dont have any street lights and walking down the lanes at night can be dangerous. Its also good as a warning system to other dog owners to put their dogs on the lead when we approach them. Yellow leads are the universal sign for nervous and reactive dogs so it helps me immensely not having to scream at people to put their dogs on leads when they are going its ok he is friendly, and i have to reply well mine might not be so back the hell off.The one thing i will finally say is that this lead is really heavy so be prepared for the weight of carrying it around, its too big to sit in a pocket too, i have a walking belt and mine sits on a carabiner which is much easier to handle.

Sadly we lost our old trusty red flexi classic retractable lead after almost 7 year’s daily use. After using the spare standard lead for a week whilst we searched high and low for the missing one - we gave up and knew that we needed to purchase a replacement.Without hesitation we opted for another flexi retractable lead, but wanted something a little different just in case the old one reappeared. This flexi Giant neon 8m one jumped out from all the ones on offer mainly due it’s colorful ribbon and extra 3m length. I can totally vouch for it.Pros:1) At £19.99 it’s £20 cheaper than offered in my local store; so at half price (!) a bargain although I’d quite happily pay full RRP if I wasn’t able to find it cheaper here.2)Comfortable to hold and surprisingly light due to its ergonomic design; fits/rests in the palm of your hand rather nicely.3) Easy to use buttons which give you the ability to stop your dogs in its tracks almost immediately at the press of a button.4) A tough neon ribbon. I know this as we opted for the ribbon once again as opposed to the cord alternative.5) The ribbon is VERY visible from far away. This is great for both you and fellow dog walkers who can decide whether they want to give you a wide berth if theirs is a shy or nervous dog.6) Best of all, no more tangled leads, as everyone can see that your dog is on a lead giving both you and fellow dog walkers a couple of extra seconds to quickly shorten your respective dog leads!Cons:NoneIf you are looking for a dog lead, then look no further. An excellent lead from a reputable brand. Use this in conjunction with the Ancol bungee attachment (see my review for further details) for a truly pleasant dog walking experience.I always take into consideration reviews left by others when choosing items. Please tick the ‘helpful’ button if you’ve found my review helpful. Thanks ?

My dog Charlie likes to go on ahead a little but I cannot trust him off the lead so I thought what do I need, I need a long retractable lead. This is the one I went for and I am really impressed. The lead is nice and long that my dog can go on ahead and I can still be happy I have him under control. The rewinding is nice and smooth fast that the lead never falls on the floor if my dog stops. The weight is great not too heavy and has a rubber grip so is very comfy to hold even on those long walks. It is lime green so you can see it easy, as can other people or dogs so they won't walk through it and it is not a trip hazard as other leads can be.The lead as expected can be locked to any length so if a dog is coming the other way I always put my dog on a short lead to keep him under control.Recently a new puppy came into my family and we did not hesitate at buying another one of these leads. My original one is a few years old and working like the day I purchased it. I've had Flexi leads in the past many years ago and know it is a name I can trust. I've used other cheaper retractable leads in the past and they failed quickly. One even on the first walk. This one however is still just like new. My dog likes to pull and I have no fear he could break this lead at all. It feels sturdy and strong even on those walks where he is pulling the most. I know if he ever sees a squirrel and runs after it he won't break it.To sum up this is a great lead. Long and well made. It makes me feel safe with my dog that he is under control but also can roam off from me as he pleases unlike shorter leads. I have been using this years and it has had no issues at all. I would totally recommend this lead to anyone looking for a solid quality lead for their dog.Happy walkies!

Have 2 dogs and one rums off, so wanted to allow more freedom. for her. Initially she would not pull and so was on an even shorter leash but she is more confident now.Item arrived really quickly (I am in Portugal) and just in time for her coming into season, so less likely to be off the lead. I found the tape did not snarl on the roll apart from when I had initial 'fiddling' and was really easy to straighten again. she is not always having to have legs untangled and is now learning to lean a little and so get more movement after just a couple of days of being patient. Soooooo much better as she can dawdle a little over a sniff or take a pee and I need only slow a little rather than halt. The handle has a large grip slot that I can hook onto a tree branch or over the wheelbarrow handle so she can escort me on more functional trips and I don't have to worry. The test of time will be the clincher, but, so far, I love it and I resisted for ages as I didn't want to luge around a great clumping device on my walks. It is lightweight and easy to carry and works well if I loop it onto a belt, though I can't use the stop button so well, .. but who cares!? Love the thing!Update: Still love it ... and all the more as My dog, now pretty well used to it, is really getting the benefit. She will now dawdle over a sniff and bounce ahead for something worthwhile. She has much more freedom and I still keep control. Romps with other dog don't result in snagged feet/legs for either of them. I wear an old lead across my torso and put it through the handle so I am 'hands-free' Means I can do some pottering as I take the dogs and she doesn't freak out if I do something she finds a little scary as she can keep her distance if she chooses! Wish I had one earlier!

I also have a flexi comfort large 5m but found it wasn’t quite as long as I’d like when out on the fields with my dog (saluki/lurcher cross so can’t really trust he won’t leg it when off his lead). This lead at 8m is perfect and is noticeably beefed up from the flexi comfort large. The tape is wider and thicker, the spring clip is beefed up. The whole thing feels over engineered, but it is heavier. The ergonomics of this lead I find much better than the flexi comfort, it seems to sit better in your hand (I didn’t think it looked like it would initially) and although the lead is heavier, it isn’t that noticeable when walking because of the different design and weight distribution. It’s early days in terms of ownership, but I’m really pleased with it so far and have no reason to believe it won’t last. I’ve seen photos of people posting pictures of the tape snapping? They look like they’ve been cut to me though, I don’t think any dog could snap this tape unless foul play had occurred (chewed or damaged by other means).I have also seen YouTube videos of people complaining that the lead twists and doesn’t always retract. I’ve never had this on either of my flexi leads and don’t think I ever will! The design is sufficient enough to to prevent this. The only suggestion I might have is to perhaps put a dab of Vaseline on the spring clip attached to your dogs collar so it can always rotate freely and the lead with naturally always straighten itself out.

This is an outstandingly good product, I had mine for 12 months before I lost it, so bought another. My dog is a cross breed rescue dog from Cyprus, he is sight hound about the size of a golden retriever and weighing 23.5kg. Round towns he walks at my side a treat but in the countryside he just wants to run everywhere, and he can see something move at 500m and will take off with the sole intention of catching it. This makes it hard to walk him off lead in the countryside. The 8m length of this is absolutely wonderful as it gives him plenty of freedom to explore. The materials and quality of construction are exceptional (I am an engineer), the tape material itself and fastening methods at each end are very strong,my dog frequently runs full pelt to the end of the extension causing high levels of shock to the lead (he is very fast). In the early days I was concerned the ends may shear, but they have not and I am now very confident in it's strength. it is also robust even when the tape is weakened, whilst i wasn't looking my dog chewed a 100mm section that ended up peppered with teeth holes, but it still didn't fail when the dog was pulling or giving it a shock test. I genuinely cannot find anything to criticise this model. One bit of advice though, when I lost my first one I thought I would try the 10m version instead, unless you are Goliath, think carefully, it is monstrous in size. This 8m version is very easy to handle.

This is heavy... but literally the tank of all dog leads, some issues though.Positives1. Bright neon lead, seems to resist dirt too. Long lead for letting your dog off for a sniff around, tape never gets tangled.2. Excellent retracting mechanism.3. Solid, really solidly built, you wouldn't feel intimated walking down a dark alley with this thing in your hand, you could do some proper damage if someone jumped out at you!4. Semi positive, the button for catch/release, very positive, no doubt if the lead is locked or not.Negatives1. Semi Negative, the button for catch/release although good, isn't as easy to use as the normal flexi lead slide switch IMO.2. No Dog bag holder, - I got one for my other lead,as I'm quite forgetful -annoying.3. Weight - it's rather heavy, it's never made my arm tired but could see it being an issue for other people - this could be a positive if you have a big dog that pulls, as it would help counterweight the jerk.4. When you first get it, it's so big you feel like a burk, that quickly disappears though.Would I buy one again? I'm undecided, if I could use my flexi bag holder on another model, no question yes. I do carry a lighter cheap lead when pooch is in the park (when he's off the lead 95% of the time) It's also a little too expensive for my liking, albeit really really well made.

I contacted the seller as this was originally stolen. But it was returned just before the police arrived the thief still got a warning the seller was really helpful and i was able to stop any action before it happened many thanks to them. The lead is dynamite! better than i expected I have my little westie on it "overkill" you might think but I have seen people lose their dogs on these kind of leads.I am really pleased with the freedom it gives us both when walking,The lead performs impeccably the buttons are intuitive and functional and most important let me feel absolute confidence with my prized best mate at the other end of it!.A lot of people did sharp intakes of breath and eyebrow raising because this is a lot of money for a lead however i say in this case you get what you pay for!,If you want peace of mind with a comfortable (a bit heavy) and easy performing lead that you can trust to place your best mates life on then this is for you. If however a few quid is all you want to spend on the little person's existence then there are adequate leads at lower prices for you.I met a dog walker down the beach she had two Malamutes on the bigger one that was unrated for weight and she said the same

Great lead. I have a deaf boxer pup. Had her 10 months and she is just over a year old. I have previously bought and broken three retractable leads. They just couldn't handle it. The dog would run and the coiled spring recoil mechanism failed on every lead. I went to pet's at home where this retailed at £39.99 and knew straight away this was a quality item. It runs on a bearing which is strong. The recoil is fast and can keep up with my dog running towards me without her getting caught up in it. The tape is about 10mm wide and is not showing any wear as yet, and it does not twist up. Also I can get a full hand inside the handle which gives a really firm grip. One more thing I've used is a 37cm spring extension as in picture, which I think has helped by taking a lot of the shock out when the dog hits the stop. If this lead failed tomorrow I'd be straight out to replace it. I paid full price for this lead and this is a honest review. If you have a larger breed of dog and buy a cheap lead chances are it's going to fail. I have used this lead every day for the past six months and it's still as good as new. The dog is on the lead at all times as being deaf she is hard to recall

First impressions: Sturdy and built with quality in mind.Pros: Good solid constructionReflective tape that runs freely and doesn't snag or twist (tape version) which is easy to see from a distance, therefore warningcyclists etc (very often cords are hard to see) and nice when roadside walking to be seen by traffic.Open either side of the casing which enables dog hair etc to easily get back out again without getting snagged in the casing andsiezing up the mechanism.Tape retracts fully right up to the clipVery efficient locking mechanism. I have a large dog that pulls a lot, and when she was locked on by the roadside, I felt fully in control.I certainly didn't feel as if the lead was going to give in any way.I would strongly advise though that if you have a 'puller' like mine, buy thesize larger than the one you think you would need ie I have a 25kl german shepherd, but opted for the L size for 50kl dogs to be on thesafe side and I'm very glad that I did!Cons: On the heavy side, which personally I like, but if your looking for 'lighweight' this is definitely not the one for you.Would highly recommend this to all my dog walking friends :)

When our old extendable, retracting dog lead cord snapped after years of regular use, I was forced to seek a suitable replacement. After much research I came across this one and decided to buy. So far, I am absolutely delighted with it. I find it offers both walker and dog the best of both worlds. It is a little heavier that our previous one, but it is beautifully finished and sturdy looking which affords additional confidence in its use. It is nice to hold and handle and the fittings are quality. The retraction recoil mechanism is so smooth and effective while the breaking and release controls are fast, simple and responsive. Our dog seems as delighted with it as I am.The 8 metres I find just about right for control purposes and I especially like the fact that the strap retracts close to the dog's collar for ultimate close control if necessary. Returning home after a rainy walk, I find that I am inclined to dry off the extending strap for maintenance purposes. As lead go, it is not cheap, but, if it gives as much service as our last one, it will be well worth the outlay.
