I had many dogs throughout my life of all different sizes and tried many different leads. This is by far the best lead I have ever bought. I seriously mean this is a extremely well made top quality lead. It's just soild and you can see and feel how well its madeI bought the giant 10 meter version and currently useing it to walk a jack Russel to allow him plenty of length to run around as I can't let him off the lead as he runs away. So wanted something long and good quality so he would enjoy his walks moreI have the large jack Russel type and even though I am only useing it for a jack Russel he can run at full speed and as the lead reaches the end of it length as yanks him back on his harness you can just feel its safe and not going to break. All the stop button works very well and feels extremely strong and works instantly when pressed even if the dogs running at full pace. Your also able to lock the lead into a certain length but this stops the spring mechanism from retracting the lead and could allow the lead to drag a long the ground and get dirty. So I don't use this option for that reason. The springs retention power is great and even fully extended at 10 meters the string is strongly trying to pull lead back in which means the lead always stays taught and of the ground and cleanThe fittings on the lead are also very well made and have the company logo stamped onto them. There a lot stronger feeling than the standed clasps you get on most leads. You can just tell its going to last a long timeThe lead was expensive at over £30 but its well worth it. I highly recommend this leadIf I remember Correctly the 10 meter gaint version I got can handle a 50kg dog running at full pace and won't brakeOne thing I will say is that it is big and fairly heavy. Not so heavy that it becomes a effort when out on walks but it is heavy and big. But that's part of what makes it such good quality. If like me you got a dog you can't let of the lead and would like them to have better walk with a massive 10 range then buy this lead. You won't be disappointed unless you maon its to heavySince upgrading to this lead from a different style 8 meter lead my dog enjoys his walks much more. Them 2 extra meters make a big difference to the places he can reach now on at regular walks

I've used Flexi leads almost exclusively for much of the past 30 years, and the quality of their leads seems to vary greatly, with some lasting years and others barely a few months. Tape leads are, for me, the way to go as the tapes are much harder to break than string leads and my last one only gave out after much use and abuse.Everything about Flexi’s Professional lead screams “heavy-duty”, from its oversized rubber grip to its open spool with a very strong retraction spring; this looks and feels like a lead that will last ages. I particularly like the open spool that leaves the lead exposed when wound-in; the fact that you could put a lead away wet and it would stay that way was always a negative for me,so having it more exposed to the air to aid drying is great. The tape is a nice fluro-yellow colour that makes it clear to other people (even from a distance) that my dogs are on a lead, even if we’re not that close. The tape does tend to twist as it retracts more than any Flexi I’ve used before, but thanks to the open spool it’s easy to see when the tape needs adjusting. But all that loveliness comes at a price, and that price is the weight of the thing. I'm no shrinking violet but even I was surprised at just how heavy this lead is. It’s actually designed to be held with the spool hanging down towards the ground, rather that out towards the front as with standard Flexis, and this is because having the spool pointing frontwards would probably be too much for the average user.I’d also mention that having 10 metres of freedom for my dogs is great, but in truth it's more than I think they would ever need, and the 8-metre version (which is slightly smaller and lighter) would probably have been better for me. 10 metres is a surprisingly long way, after all.I don’t regret buying a Flexi Professional lead for a second; it’s a fantastic lead that feels like it’ll last for years and from now on I’ll keep buying these for as long as Flexi makes them. But for anyone looking at buying one of these, check your needs carefully as the smaller version might be better for you.

I first got this lead 4 years ago. I've only got a relatively small dog (Patterdale), but he's got no road sense whatsoever, and likes to run off chasing anything that moves when we're out in the countryside. So I like to think the 10m lead length gives him the impression he's running free, when he in fact is tethered to the hand that feeds!Anyway. It lasted 4 years of constant twice daily use. That includes probably hundreds of harsh mountain hikes (I live quite near the Yorkshire Dales) and countryside treks. What eventually forced me to need a new one is that the recoil deteriorated meaning the lead would not retract so I had to reel in 10m of lead by hand a few times then roll it up manually.BUT, I think this only happened because I left it to soak in water and bleach for a while to try clean off all the dirt that had ingrained into it over the years. It may have lasted longer if I didn't do that.If you do spend a lot of time out in the country or muddy areas, you'll find dirt does build up and make the lead marginally fatter, which does effect the recoil over time. The one really annoying thing is when the lead is at full stretch it sometimes flips over at the end attached to the handle, then when it reels in it causes a bump, making the rest of the lead not reel back in all the way. Not sure if that's ever fixable. But it's annoying. Also, just a preference of colour, but why does it have to he bright luminous yellow?! Be great if you did a dark version.Attached photos are of the lead being put through it's paces in formidable Yorkshire conditions! And the lead when it finally walked its last walk last week ? I see someone else posted a photo of the lead snapping. There is no way in hell this lead will snap unless the integrity has been damaged by a cut into the material. It's made of the same stuff seatbelts are made of.I worked it out at costing 1.3 pence per walk per day (two walks a day) over 4 years approximately. Not a bad investment.

Sadly we lost our old trusty red flexi classic retractable lead after almost 7 year’s daily use. After using the spare standard lead for a week whilst we searched high and low for the missing one - we gave up and knew that we needed to purchase a replacement.Without hesitation we opted for another flexi retractable lead, but wanted something a little different just in case the old one reappeared. This flexi Giant neon 8m one jumped out from all the ones on offer mainly due it’s colorful ribbon and extra 3m length. I can totally vouch for it.Pros:1) At £19.99 it’s £20 cheaper than offered in my local store; so at half price (!) a bargain although I’d quite happily pay full RRP if I wasn’t able to find it cheaper here.2)Comfortable to hold and surprisingly light due to its ergonomic design; fits/rests in the palm of your hand rather nicely.3) Easy to use buttons which give you the ability to stop your dogs in its tracks almost immediately at the press of a button.4) A tough neon ribbon. I know this as we opted for the ribbon once again as opposed to the cord alternative.5) The ribbon is VERY visible from far away. This is great for both you and fellow dog walkers who can decide whether they want to give you a wide berth if theirs is a shy or nervous dog.6) Best of all, no more tangled leads, as everyone can see that your dog is on a lead giving both you and fellow dog walkers a couple of extra seconds to quickly shorten your respective dog leads!Cons:NoneIf you are looking for a dog lead, then look no further. An excellent lead from a reputable brand. Use this in conjunction with the Ancol bungee attachment (see my review for further details) for a truly pleasant dog walking experience.I always take into consideration reviews left by others when choosing items. Have 2 dogs and one rums off, so wanted to allow more freedom. for her. Initially she would not pull and so was on an even shorter leash but she is more confident now.Item arrived really quickly (I am in Portugal) and just in time for her coming into season, so less likely to be off the lead. I found the tape did not snarl on the roll apart from when I had initial 'fiddling' and was really easy to straighten again. she is not always having to have legs untangled and is now learning to lean a little and so get more movement after just a couple of days of being patient. Soooooo much better as she can dawdle a little over a sniff or take a pee and I need only slow a little rather than halt. The handle has a large grip slot that I can hook onto a tree branch or over the wheelbarrow handle so she can escort me on more functional trips and I don't have to worry. The test of time will be the clincher, but, so far, I love it and I resisted for ages as I didn't want to luge around a great clumping device on my walks. It is lightweight and easy to carry and works well if I loop it onto a belt, though I can't use the stop button so well, .. but who cares!? Love the thing!Update: Still love it ... and all the more as My dog, now pretty well used to it, is really getting the benefit. She will now dawdle over a sniff and bounce ahead for something worthwhile. She has much more freedom and I still keep control. Romps with other dog don't result in snagged feet/legs for either of them. I wear an old lead across my torso and put it through the handle so I am 'hands-free' Means I can do some pottering as I take the dogs and she doesn't freak out if I do something she finds a little scary as she can keep her distance if she chooses! Wish I had one earlier!

For any dog walker that allows their pooch to roam but wants the security of knowing they cannot take off, the Flexi leads are great. For the larger dogs, the smaller Flexi leads are really not strong enough so this lead known as The Professional (Giant) is available. We have been using them for over 40 years as they allow the dog total freedom to roam about during their walk and when you want then back, the lock prevents them going further and the strong spring pulls the lead back as the dog returns to you. The lead is in fact a strong tape made from black webbing and at the full extent, you have 10 metres to play with. The webbing and the housing will virtually last for ever but sadly not the spring which is the only reason we have needed to nuy new leads but that said it has only been 3 in over 40 years. It also is used for training as you can call your dog knowing he is secure but as many know, training goes for nothing with some breeds that deliberately go "deaf" if something is more interesting. It is also worth saying that not every dog walker is responsible and regretably some allow their dogs to run riot causing distress to some children and smaller dogs so the use of this long Flexi allows the dog total freedom until you want him back and you can prevent any unnecessary confrontations before they occur. The handle is strong and has a rubberised grip and if the webbing gets wet it is easy to pull out, lock open so it can dry.A great piece of equipment we would not be without.

This is an outstandingly good product, I had mine for 12 months before I lost it, so bought another. My dog is a cross breed rescue dog from Cyprus, he is sight hound about the size of a golden retriever and weighing 23.5kg. Round towns he walks at my side a treat but in the countryside he just wants to run everywhere, and he can see something move at 500m and will take off with the sole intention of catching it. This makes it hard to walk him off lead in the countryside. The 8m length of this is absolutely wonderful as it gives him plenty of freedom to explore. The materials and quality of construction are exceptional (I am an engineer), the tape material itself and fastening methods at each end are very strong,my dog frequently runs full pelt to the end of the extension causing high levels of shock to the lead (he is very fast). In the early days I was concerned the ends may shear, but they have not and I am now very confident in it's strength. it is also robust even when the tape is weakened, whilst i wasn't looking my dog chewed a 100mm section that ended up peppered with teeth holes, but it still didn't fail when the dog was pulling or giving it a shock test. I genuinely cannot find anything to criticise this model. One bit of advice though, when I lost my first one I thought I would try the 10m version instead, unless you are Goliath, think carefully, it is monstrous in size. This 8m version is very easy to handle.

Can't over-emphasise the quality and ease of use of this sturdy lead. Took me all of minutes three to get the hang of operating a lead which is diametrically opposite to the extending lead it replaces - meaning that my old lead was 'locked' until pressing the button to release the lead, but the 'Flexi's' design is so much better.I like, very much, the inclusion of a secondary 'safety strap' which would come into play in the unlikely event of your main connection failing. The really strong and swift return spring is a real bonus; as others have mentioned, the lead remains taut even when the dog is running back towards you. This leads (pun not intended)to less tangles and foul-ups around the dog's legs.I have a boisterous and very strong (adult) English Springer, and he loves the 'freedom' of galloping around a large 'circle' when given free rein. Unfortunately he cannot be trusted completely off-lead off premises, so one needs a captive lead, and so far this one works like a dream.I don;t find it at all heavy or inconvenient to carry. It hangs naturally when the dog is walking or running politely, and feels absolutely secure in the hand when restraining. So, yes, 10 metres is a good length, but a 15 metre lead, for my use, would be better still.Go, buy with confidence - it's of German manufacture, ain't it?

This is by far and away the best flexi lead on the market. The thing you need to realise with flexi leads is that they should only be used under certain circumstances. They should never ever be used on a public road as the risk is too great that the dog could run out into the road. They should never be used on dogs who are huge pullers and should only be used by dogs who have received correct training.Tips. If your dog launches itself in a hedge do not try and grab the lead, you will end up with burns and scars on your hands. Its also advisable to buy a bungee extension to clip between the lead and your dog to ease the pressure if they reach the end of the lead.My lead lasted 2 years before it decided it was going to give up,that was after it got tangled around brambles, hedges, trees, stones, bricks and other dogs and my legs lolI now have the Neon one and i love it too. My dog is a Huskamute and is perfect on her lead. She cannot come off lead because of high prey drive so this allows her the freedom to explore, sniff and just enjoy herself. The one thing i will finally say is that this lead is really heavy so be prepared for the weight of carrying it around, its too big to sit in a pocket too, i have a walking belt and mine sits on a carabiner which is much easier to handle.

I contacted the seller as this was originally stolen. But it was returned just before the police arrived the thief still got a warning the seller was really helpful and i was able to stop any action before it happened many thanks to them. The lead is dynamite! better than i expected I have my little westie on it "overkill" you might think but I have seen people lose their dogs on these kind of leads.I am really pleased with the freedom it gives us both when walking,The lead performs impeccably the buttons are intuitive and functional and most important let me feel absolute confidence with my prized best mate at the other end of it!.A lot of people did sharp intakes of breath and eyebrow raising because this is a lot of money for a lead however i say in this case you get what you pay for!,If you want peace of mind with a comfortable (a bit heavy) and easy performing lead that you can trust to place your best mates life on then this is for you. If however a few quid is all you want to spend on the little person's existence then there are adequate leads at lower prices for you.I met a dog walker down the beach she had two Malamutes on the bigger one that was unrated for weight and she said the same

I've had this a few days now, tested in all weathers, and it certainly delivers. I'm using this for our new rescue dog, a very energetic Harrier Hound and it's the perfect length to give him the freedom to sniff around, and to play with our German Shepherd. Tested it out today with a friend, and all three dogs could play together happily, with him still attached to me. Peace of mind, and freedom for him.Being a Hound, he can be very strong on the lead when he gets a scent of something, but this lead holds him perfectly. An added bonus is the loud clicking sound it makes when you apply the brake. He very quickly learned that means stop, which minimizes the jerk on both you and your dog.Like others have said,it is heavy, but you don't even notice it after a while, and the weight of it is reassuring. At full extension it can sag, especially in wet weather, but that is easily remedied by holding it up a bit higher. Reels in easily, and if needed, thanks to the tape you can grab hold of the extension without burning your fingers. All in all, an excellent product, and I'm considering getting a second one for our German Shepherd, as we prefer him on lead during the long evening walk, when it's dark.

We bought this lead to replace a 5m version of the Flexi lead for our Husky Jake, at 23kg.Overall the quality of the lead is excellent. The construction is sturdy and feels robust and the tape lead is strong and takes some abuse. It pays out / retracts well and keeps the tape off the ground even at quick changes of direction or sprints. This is at the cost of a bit of pretension in the lead which might be nuisance for small (<5kg) dogs pulling them back constantly, but Jake barely notices it.During the Cat Test (a 10m sprint after a cat 12m away before running abruptly out of lead) the Flexi pro performs well, stopping him everytime. I'm not sure I'd want to try this with a bigger dog (I.e.Up to the maximum rating of 50kg), but that's more about the ability of the human shoulder than concerns around the lead failing..The only weakness, if you like, is that the brake is on/off (rathchet type) so when trying to slow a running dog can be a bit jerky. I don't suppose a friction brake is practical at this size/weight of dog though.Overall, very happy with it. If I had a replace this for whatever reason I'd have no hesitation just re ordering the same again!

First impressions: Sturdy and built with quality in mind.Pros: Good solid constructionReflective tape that runs freely and doesn't snag or twist (tape version) which is easy to see from a distance, therefore warningcyclists etc (very often cords are hard to see) and nice when roadside walking to be seen by traffic.Open either side of the casing which enables dog hair etc to easily get back out again without getting snagged in the casing andsiezing up the mechanism.Tape retracts fully right up to the clipVery efficient locking mechanism. I have a large dog that pulls a lot, and when she was locked on by the roadside, I felt fully in control.I certainly didn't feel as if the lead was going to give in any way.I would strongly advise though that if you have a 'puller' like mine, buy thesize larger than the one you think you would need ie I have a 25kl german shepherd, but opted for the L size for 50kl dogs to be on thesafe side and I'm very glad that I did!Cons: On the heavy side, which personally I like, but if your looking for 'lighweight' this is definitely not the one for you.Would highly recommend this to all my dog walking friends :)

I have a young Alaskan Malamute who is extremely strong and weighs over 50kg. I walk my dog twice a day averaging 3hrs in total, this Flexi, which I have had for 4 months now, has enable me to keep him under control but still able to give him a decent amount of lead when on a walk. Some people have said it is heavy but personally I don't have a problem with the weight, I rather put up with a little more weight than have something that breaks in 5 minutes due to being too lightweight. The lead itself is very strong and has stopped my dog even at a full sprint while chasing a bird! Unfortunately I was not so strong and ended up flat on my face but at least the lead held!He did try to chew thelead when we first got him but it seems to be made of a pretty resilient material and he only inflicted very minor damage. Since then the lead has been through brambles, thorn bushes and pulled against rocks and on occasion I have as well and still the lead is only showing minor degradation unlike me!All in all it was money well spent so if you have a large dog you can't go wrong.

When I first bought this lead the dog could not fully pull it out due to the strength of the spring that retracts the lead, I also thought it was quite heavy. Now, he utilises the whole length of it and is able to zoom around when he wants and I have become accustomed to the additional weight. An improvement to this lead would be the addition of a fixed length of lead so that the dog is not walking under foot. The cause of this is the clip that fastens to the collar/harness retracts right back to the lead body and having a dog that walks closely to me. I have made this improvement to ours, but could do with something about 3 feet long to really make it work properly. Our dog is around the 35 kg mark, well within the capacity of the lead, and to date has caused no issues with breakage or stretch to the lead. The almost luminous quality of the lead makes it standout at night, which is a nice safety feature, and being flat is easy to keep clean.I would certainly buy another should the need arise as it is priced very favourably when compared to other sources of supply.
