I was really excited to try this FIMO clay with my grandson, as years ago I made clay animals with my children, which still take pride of place on my mantelpiece. A wonderful way to remember childhood activities on rainy weekend afternoons; the children always loved making animals out of clay, their imaginations would run wild. We had families of weird and wonderful animals, all unknown to man. This pack contains four 1.5oz clay packs in different colours. It comes with instructions, a background scene and a modelling tool. Although the pack is recommended for ages eight and up, my grandson is younger, so a lot of help and supervision was required, which is great for a child at heart like me.As my grandson is younger, I had to read the instructions to him, which are very good, clear and precise. He really did enjoy the experience. The clay is lovely to work with, it is soft and in no time at all we had a sheep and a cow. We baked the models for around thirty minutes in an electric oven at 110 degrees and this was enough for the them to bake hard. He was really happy that he could take them home for his bedroom. Wonderfully tactile and easy to use. Will make a great Christmas gift for loved ones.Fimo make several different types of modelling clay, and this one is their soft modelling clay primarily designed for use by children. Its chief feature is that it is amazingly soft and keeps its softness indefinitely. The Fimo range includes both air drying clay and oven bake clay, also modelling clay, polymer clay canes, as well as Fimo soft clay for kids. Fimo is sometimes used by artists and modellers to make small intricate sculptures, figurines and even jewellery. It is astonishingly adaptable.Fimo is a manufactured product closely resembling clay, but is actually made from a type of polymer plastic. Unlike clay which dries hard as it loses water to the atmosphere, shrinking about 10 percent at the same time, polymer clay neither dries nor shrinks under the normal range of temperatures and humidity. Having said that, Fimo also make another polymer clay which is air drying and slowly hardens, but this product is the one to prefer because it can be used again and again ad infinitum. Yet, if one wants to preserve the modelled form the child has created, baking it in any type of even, gas or electric, for 30 minutes at 110 degrees centigrade, will make the form hard and permanent. But, do not over bake it since discolouration will occur. Once the Fimo is baked hard it can be further modelled and shaped by cutting, drilling, carving, sanding, polishing and even painted. Acrylic paints are best, since oil based paints do not adhere to the surface very well and do not dry properly.Children love modelling and are often amazed by the creations that appear before their eyes. Perhaps shaping clay resembles the primeval creative force of god? The child’s imagination is often more vivid that the adult and they see animals, people, and strange things in the shaped clay which others may not. Modelling with clay is definitely an educational activity, and the child develops manual dexterity and fine control of the fingers at the same time as experiencing pure delight at the miraculous forms appearing before their eyes.Fimo is made in Germany by the well-known company, Staedtler, who are more famous for the manufacture of artist quality pencils and drawing pens. There are other brands of polymer clay available, such as Sculpey which is made in the USA. Fimo is regarded as one of the best. This special kids pack contains 4 different blocks of coloured polymer clay, but it is possible to purchase Fimo blocks separately. If purchased separately, Fimo costs about £2.50 for 50 grams. This special Fimo for kids pack contains 4 x 1.5 oz, which makes 6 ounces in total, equivalent to 170 grams, so the price is very similar to Fimo sold in separate 50 gram blocks. The extra modelling tool and instruction booklet included makes this a good buy.

We have been buying Fimo for years for the children, and now the grandchildren, and this kit is as good as ever. What we really like is that the models they make last forever, and it is a lasting reminder of when they were little and how much progress they have made over the years with their manual dexterity. I now have to find room on the shelf for more of them. This kit is the Pet form and has proved a hit as they always do. So easy to make and the instructions are top notch, explaining everything you need to know. The little ones will need to listen to you but as they get older and can read them for themselves it becomes all theirs. This is excellent value for money. It does not take long to make the models,so it’s a perfect idea for a wet Sunday afternoon – make the models and then you can pop them into the oven whilst your Sunday dinner is cooking. I have never had a problem cooking them alongside food items, but as each oven is different you may need to experiment slightly first. You need to use separate baking sheets or plates for the baking - my wife is not comfortable using her usual everyday ones for something other than food - but she still has some that she has used for years and only come out for the Fimo bakings. This is a level 3 set, intended for the more experienced Fimo user, so if this is your first time using it you may like to try one of the lower levels first or even the starter pack. All the packs are reasonable value, as is this one. This is fun, and the models last a long, long time (the children have fun with it too).

Not used one of these sets before (though I have used FIMO in the very dim and distant past) and we really enjoyed it. In this Level 1 pet set you have enough clay to make a rabbit, a dog and a cat. You have four different colours of clay - black, white, orange and brown and a modelling tool. It's described as extra soft and I found it not dissimilar to play dough. This level 1 set for beginners was a great introduction to clay modelling.Step by step instructions are pretty easy to follow - there's an icon which shows you how much FIMO you need for each step and little picture icons which show you what you have to do with each piece. The icons are all explained at the front of the instruction booklet. Each block of clay is in 8 strips and the little icon shows you how much to use as a portion of that. For some of the tiny bits (an eighth? of a strip) it's difficult to work out exactly how much you should be using - but I think that is my only criticism. Thanks to the other reviewers who suggested covering the finished pieces with foil (like a little oven inside your oven) when baking them, to stop deposits forming on the inside of your oven. It is slightly worrying when you read the safety rules - there is a long list of DO NOTS, which you really should read before starting.Overall - did our finished pets look exactly like the pictures...erm... no! But I don't think that matters, my daughter and I had great fun and I'd definitely buy another set ( maybe the farm animals, I think we need to stick at level 1 for the time being).

This is a lovely set, aimed at making a particular collection of items instead of the free-flowing creative opportunities offered by one of the plain packs of clay. The more prescriptive aim of the set isn't necessarily a bad thing: bakeable polymer clays aren't intended to be used in such quantities as playdough or plasticene, and a set like this helps to teach the techniques needed to make small-scale, permanent toys and models. The set includes 4 full-size clay blocks, a cutting and shaping tool, full instructions and an outer cardboard packet that opens out to become scenery for the created pets.Fimo Kids is a much softer and easier to handle clay than the original Fimo I grew up with, and takes only a little kneading to get going. To get the best results, it's a good idea to start working with lighter colours or wash your hands between darker and paler shades. Sometimes a little of the clay works its way into the grooves of your fingerprints and transfers from here onto the next colour you start working on, making the colours less distinct. There is a bit of flexibility on the recommended cooking time, though larger models may require a bit longer. Really small models will probably be fine up to about 10 minutes longer than stated, but much more than that and everything starts turning brown. If only slightly overcooked, Fimo models can be painted to rescue them but badly overcooking the clay can make it dry out and turn crumbly.

This is a great little activity set, to keep a child occupied, on a wet afternoon. My son, initially, disregarded the instructions and went in full-steam on the dog. After a little disappointment, he followed the instructions and with a little help got reasonable results. The polymer clay is a little like plasticene, though it isn't capable of holding as fine a detail. It does need a little warming up to become pliable and once warm will stick together very well. One thing to be wary of, is the fact that an unnoticeable residue will build up on skin, this becomes apparent when working on white clay, which becomes discoloured, after working on a coloured clay; I'd recommend washing hands inbetween colours.Smaller children will need help and may be become frustrated, if left to their own. There are four colours in this particular pack: black, white, orange and brown; enough to make the three models in the manual. There was a bit of clay left over, the black in particular. We made a few other things from the leftovers, though there is no rush to use it all up at once as it requires heat to cure.I struggled a little to get my gas oven to settle on 110C, as it is below the lowest setting but I got there eventually and the models cured well.My son rated the experience 'good'.

The ‘Fimo’ kits contain a form of modelling clay that is softer and more pliable than plasticine or play-dough, and a great advantage is that it may be oven baked to harden. This level 1 kit is provided with sufficient material to create a puppy with upright ears, a doggie with floppy ears, and a contented cat. This ‘Fimo Kids Pet Form and Play Set’ is the easiest skill level and its instruction booklet is straight forward. There are four 1½ oz blocks of modelling material in four colours – white, black, brown and orange. A spatula is provided to assist ‘working’ the material by defining shapes which may be cut and sliced, and the bits readily stuck together. An accompanying promotional leaflet refers to higher skill levels (2 & 3)and it outlines more advanced models. As a tactile hands-on kit it is a delight to have something for an 8+ years old child that is not digital! Product blub refers to psychologist support that something made by hand can be more educational than many of today’s gadget toys. It is particularly pleasing to be able to oven-bake the sculpted pets to harden them as ornaments, or for imaginative play via the plastic tray provided and the background pictures printed inside the packing.

We've had fun on a rainy summer holiday day with this clay set, but with three children this little set, really is only a single afternoon event. Unless you don't bake the clay of course. My 11-year-old got the most out of this kit. He was easily able to manipulate the clay into something worth baking. The recommended age is 8+. My 8-Year-old did struggle to make his robot, but that says more about him than the clay. He painted his though, and it took the watercolour we had just fine paint we had fine. My 5-year-old had a great time, but was probably a bit too small to get the most out of the kit. He would definitely have been better of with some permanently malleable plasticine. The baking time of half an hour was more than enough time to cure the clay.Beware thinner pieces as they do become brittle. The colours in this set are slightly odd. I guess they're meant to be for animals, but black, white, orange and brown, aren't the easiest colours to build stuff with. Unless you want to make a walkie-talkie, apparently. In that case, it would seem the colours are just fine!

Great fun. Instructions were easy to read and understand. size of lumps of Fimo in the instructions corresponding pretty accurately to the size required. Tried it out with some people, we all made cats and ended up with a trio of pussies. The orange cat was made by someone with a bit of modelling experience and the other two by people who with no experience who had to be bullied a bit into having a go. The Fimo in this set is a softer, easier to manipulate blend than the standard stuff that needs rolling around before it's totally usable. When they were finished, we baked them in the oven for the time requested and they came out perfectly. However, this time I made sure that I used a known, reliable oven thermometer to check the temperature was correct. I have burned Fimo to a crisp before now in oven and didn't want to make that mistake again.Throughly recommended, small children and nervous adults may require a bit of help following instructions initially.

This Pet set is a level 1 so I figured it would be a great intro to the concept for a 7yr old. The kit contains 4 blocks of clay and a handy spatula for cutting and shaping the smaller details,Set aside some of the brown from the bunny to use on the cat detailing, and a bit of white from the dog for detailing on the bunny. He was a little reluctant at first to switch off the Xbox racing and play with this but the instructions were so easy he was soon got captivated by the ease of creating something himself and was completely won over when he realised that unlike Play-Doh which is so temporary, we were actually able to bake and harden this into something he could keep and proudly take home withhim to show his mum.Look forward to trying more in the range

I first thought this was another type of play-do, the normal stuff you see that can be model and then put away for another day. This is clay, not plasticine, the kit comprises of FIMO clay blocks 4 x FIMO kids blocks, 1 x modelling stick, 1 x background scene and 1 x instructions booklet, the set I received was Pet Form and Play Set.The instructions are detailed and very clear they show you how to model a piece such as the dog or cat, fairly easy If your okay with modelling, always a challenge If your not so good, but great fun. When finished you pop the model in to an oven which will harden the clay and you have a finished piece.A really great fun kit, ideal for young and old to have fun modelling,I love it.

My children enjoyed making the animal models, and they hardened well in the oven (the models, that is, not my children). My only quibble with this pack is that you don’t get much Fimo for your money, just enough for the three small animals featured in the instruction book provided you are careful in measuring the proportions. The instructions for creating the animals are clear; presented in a style that is easy for children to follow. The cardboard packaging can be opened into a background scene. For this you should open the package by pulling the tab halfway along the back; this is not obvious, and there are no markings to highlight the tab.

I like it when I can give my grandchildren something to play with that they can have fun with and learn a skill at the same time. Fimo has been around for ages and is a tried and tested favourite. It has been used to make beads, bracelets and pendants as well as ornamental figures. This set makes three small animals, a cat, dog and a bunny and there is a very good, clear explanatory leaflet with the set that shows exactly how to make them although of course they can make anything from the four packets of Fimo included. The set comes with a plastic modelling tool and there is a printed background on the reverse of the packaging.

This was purchased to go along with another kit as a present for my 9 year old daughter. Both kits have everything she will need to make 2 cute models of animals. They will be our first attempts at fimo so opted for these as they were appealing to children and the instructions look straight forward. They come in good quality packaging and include good clear instructions and enough coloured fimo for each model. These are our first packs so am interested to see how we get along but they came recommended by a friend who has used many different designs in the past.

My kids (age 8 and 13) love Fimo, as do I. This is a great selection of Fimo colours in a pet themed set. The "background" (cardboard) and modelling tool don't really add much to the package, but the Fimo itself is as high quality as ever. Get a bit creative, then pop the models in the over and they come out hard and durable. Great for creating memories - grandparents love the results (or at least they say they do!), and for me, a great way to spend time with children and get creative.

My daughter absolutely loves stuff like this. I have a huge box full of play-do items and this isn't that different from those. They were nice and easy to do and it kept her quiet for a whole rainy afternoon without complaint! Which was kind of amazing lolThe price is about average for what these items tend to cost but I would definitely recommend to others with children and I will probably be adding to my daughters collection at Christmastime.
