I love FIMO. Love it. In part, I owe my physical health to it, because crafting with FIMO was a major part of my recovery after encephalitis. But my initial reaction to this was to find it a really disappointing product.Having used it, and then thought about it, I suspect Staedler may have messed up the launch of a rather different new product by releasing it as though it were simply part of a core, existing brand which has properties they’ve sought to standardise over the years, where this shows up as an anomaly. As a basic product this breaks a lot of the rules of FIMO use. It has texture that you don’t add by embossing or other means. This is FIMO that you don’t necessarily use to make models that then are set by means of baking.Instead, you can roll it thinly and bake it, then use it. It doesn’t cook at the same temperature as most FIMO products (with a bake temperature of 130 degrees C, it needs the oven to be 20 degrees warmer). You can shape or cut it first, but don’t need to do so, because after it’s baked it can be cut and sewn.If you only look at that part of the description, it seems worse than pointless. Like using leather. Or leather substitutes. Except it’s a fairly small block of clay, more expensive than fabric offcuts, and the block will dry out when left in contact with air. So on first impressions, and based on receiving a single colour block as a review sample I was really, really unimpressed. And viewed in this light, it seems pretty unimpressive. However, what this misses are the things you can do with this product (that you can’t do with either leather or leatherette), including working it before it’s baked. It can be mixed, patterned, embossed, stamped, cut, and designed using a range of tools, even really basic ones – where specialist leatherwork tools might otherwise be required, or where colour effects, textures, patterns, and even three-dimensionality can be achieved that can’t easily be achieved when using fabrics.Whilst using multiple colours of this clay you could plait or knot friendship bracelet style strands – then bake a heavily textured strand-type surface, or roll and bake so that you have a flat, leather-effect patterned band.I have no idea why anyone reviewing this is comparing it to actual fired clay. Fimo is a polymer clay. It is not and never has been anything like potter's clay in effect (with the exception of FIMO Terracotta).

I’ve used FIMO before but I wasn’t quite sure what to expect at this. It’s billed as being like leather once baked. I tried it out with my children and we all made different things.I made a few things of different thicknesses and after baking them all in the oven at 130 degrees for 30 mins, they all came put looking like brown FIMO! However, once I’d managed to rip them off the baking sheet (they all stuck) some of the thinner old items did actually look a little bit like leather. They are very flexible but tough. I cut one and it cut fine. I wouldn’t say quite like leather but a sort of imitation one I guess. If you bend it enough,it cracks a little bit on the surface… Not cracks as in breaks but when unbent it has tiny tiny hairline cracks all over which given that appearance of aged leather. So yes it could pass for a type of leather if not inspected very closely. However I think really they should just say it’s brown FIMO!

I wasn't sure what to expect, used this as an experiment but I imagine very limited uses.It took a few different tries to get it looking like leather, the feel isn't the same but when baked thin enough it has a little give and has a little bit of an aged leather look. I prefer cute smooth little characters with my clay, but I could potentially see this coming in useful for miniatures like dolls houses when working with real leather may not work. The price is about average for the brand, if I was looking to make leather-type miniatures I'd likely buy this again to experiment with as it's going to be easier to manipulate prior to baking than trying to work with leather on smaller projects.I've had better luck with this than some other 'special effects' polymer clay.

Item is good however it took me a bit of time to get the oven time correct in regard to my oven. I think the time given is a guidance and you have to play around with it a bit. I’d suggest doing a few test pieces before making your final piece and leaving them in for different times. Once you have the time correct this stuff is amazing though. Totally Worth getting use to and into it. Once hardened properly you are left with a hard leather type product which you can bend slightly and punch holes in to make things. I made a book cover and then strung them together with pages between. It worked really well.I’ll be buying if I feel the need in the future - I took of a star due to the amount of faffing it took to get the times correct at the beginning.

This item arrived safe and well packaged.I hadn't tried Fimo for years before using this! And it really bought back all those happy feelings. It is super fun, creating literally anything you can imagine! This new leather effect stuff really bring this into the 21st century... it gives the model an amazing leathery feel once baked. You could miniaturize anything that is leathery like a sofa for example... but I used it to create a dogs head. It is awesome! The ears feel so real!I highly recommend this product.

I've loved Fimo for years now, and this new Leather effect is going to give people so many more creative projects to play with! This is an inspirational product and I remember a project I did at college that I would have had so much fun using this with, as it enables you to make custom made leather look objects, so this has so much potential, the only thing holding you back is your imagination!Fabulous stuff, I just wish you could get really big blocks, the largest seems to be around half a kilo!

This is fantastic stuff. It looks like an earthenware clay but is much easier to work. I managed to make a very fine, Japanese-style cup, using the pinch pot technique, plus a tiny lion's head statue. The best thing is it leaves no mess anywhere, even on your hands. You can leave it overnight and it doesn't dry out, and you can remould it over and over again. The oven drying looks just like a kiln fire. Please send me some more and let me know how I can colour and glaze it!

Its small great value for money modelling clay that you oven bake to get its final hardened finish. This isn't like the other FIMO clays though as after you harden this you are then left with sheets that are toughened leather looking that are easy to cut, punch and make into other things [we bid a small model book binding!] They look really good. Easy to use product that is value for money. Recommended. Andrew

This clay is very soft - unlike plasticine, which needs some warming up, this stays soft and pliable. This does make it a little harder to shape small things, but I guess that's just practice.Once baked, following instructions carefully, it did indeed end up as hard but flexible sheets, with texture.

Of all the polymer clays available, I find Fimo the most easy to use. The leather effect is very realistic, especially if "buffed" once it is baked and cooled down.I find Fimo doesn't leave as much residue on the fingers as otherr brands, which is important when using dfferent colours.

I have a few of these I brought them as an add on,as I had ordered over £20 from Amazon items.I like the leather look but found this crumbles a lot so I now keep tin foil under it as I break off pieces to use,it takes a while to work the clay, but it's worth the time for finished items,

This is an interesting product. It does have fairly specialised uses and I am sure that each hobbist will find their own particluar use for it.In my case it is useful for adding leather cockpit edges to scale R/C models and possibly leather jackets for larger pilot figures.

Fimo is the best modelling clay you can get in my view - and this is particularly interesting, as once fashioned and hardened, the effect is that of leather. This would appeal to anyone into modelling / small sculptures / art students.

We tested this out with my aunt and she really enjoyed it. It's a nice thing to do together and it's something she would actually use for decoration afterwards. This will not be the last time she works with this clay
