This Fellowes paper trimmer is a mid-range cutter, supposed to be able to cut through ten sheets of paper at a time, although in my experience six sheets is the practical limit.It's quite well built. The base is aluminium, with fairly rigid plastic ends. The blade is on a sprung bar that automatically lifts when you let go, so you can easily reposition your work; the downside, is you need to press even harder to hold the paper steady. The base is marked with guides for 6" x 4" and 7" x 5" photos and for A6 and A5 paper. There are also rulers in centimetres and inches top and bottom, and a protractor mark, so you can easily position your work at 15, 30 or 45 degrees.The blade is in a removeable cartridge.You only get one with this model, which is a straight-cut blade. You can buy replacements, and also a three-pack of "novelty" cuts, including a wavy cut, perforations and fold (to allow easy folding of card, for example). All of these are wheels, and the sharp bit only sticks out of the cartridge when you press down on the handle, which makes them safer. There are three little spring-loaded storage slots in the base to store and spare blades, and the blades are very easy to swap around during use.The blades bear down on a tough plastic strip with a dashed white line marking the cutting point. It's removeable and reversible, so if one side wears down over time, you can turn it over.It's a cutter for right-handed people. Your left hand is needed to press down at two points to clamp the paper in place, and your right hand operates the cutting blade. I found that I had to press quite hard to cut through ten sheets of paper - it seems to be easier if you cut away from your body, but I'd still probably recommend cutting no more than six sheets at a time. The rigidity of the base means that as long as you position your work carefully and keep a steady pressure, the cut-lines won't be wobbly. Note that you need at least two inches (5cm) width of paper under the clamp to stop it slipping when you cut.The cut line itself is good, but gets less tidy (with evidence of roughness or loose paper fibres) when you're cutting through several layers. If you need a sharp, clean cut (for example, for display purposes), cut one sheet at a time. A reasonable paper trimmer for light home use especially if your family is into craft work with lots of different paper and thin card to cut. This trimmer seems to be specifically aimed at the home market because the cutting blade is in a cartridge and only gets exposed when you prepare to cut something so it's more or less impossible to get fingers near the blade.The trimmer comes with three blades and a thicker one used for scoring a fold. Kids will probably like the wavy cut blade to give a decorative edge to anything. The instruction book says ten sheets of 80GSM paper can be cut but I found I had to run the blade up and down a couple of times to achieve this.The wavy and perforate blades take five sheets and fold one three sheets. The blade cartridges are stored in one end of the cutter so they won't be lost.This Fellowes model has a neat sliding plastic clamping unit to hold the paper in place on the cutting base. One criticism I have is that the metal base doesn't have enough lines on it to make sure paper is at exact right angles. There are inches and millimeters marked top and bottom but a graph paper effect would have been much more practical. The Avery TR003 trimmer has plenty of useful parallel lines on its base.I can't see any reason to have a battery making a red light indicator on the trimming head other than to allow for the use of the word Electron on the box (high-tech imagery!). The light can the turned off though and the battery, a CR2032, used elsewhere in the home.The trimmer construction seems reasonable, again basically for home use. The blade unit easily runs along its metal guide rail with minimum sway either side. The cutting strip can to removed and turned over to use the other side. With reasonable use I reckon this trimmer should last some time.If you want a trimmer for professional use I would go for something more substantial than this unit but if you do a lot of craft and hobby work with paper and have children this is worth considering.

While this is a fairly bulky item and takes up quite a bit of space when compared to the small paper trimmers that are available, the difference in results can clearly be seen. This has no problems in cutting up to 20 pages of normal printer paper at a time and leaves a perfectly cut edge. Even though my cheap paper trimmer can only cut one sheet at a time, the edge is left rough and looks quite unprofessional. With this Fellowes trimmer, it's professional results all the time - although I'd expect nothing less considering the price and that it is a premium cutter!The main part of the cutter is also marked out with many different measurements, including A4, A5, A6 and US Letter. Therefore,even though ruler guides are also printed, they won't be needed unless you want to cut to a non-standard size. Using the yellow paper guide shown in the picture, it is easy to cut to exact sizes, meaning that when cutting A4 to A5, you won't get one sheet bigger than the other.It has been mentioned that the trimmer is also rather heavy, which is something I agree with. However I think that this can only be a good thing as it stops it slipping around on the table when cutting, as it means you don't need a third hand to hold the trimmer, while also holding the paper and moving the cutter!With regards to the size of the trimmer, Fellowes also make an A4 version which would take up much less room, and if the quality of this model is anything to go by, I would think it would also be an excellent purchase.

The first surprising thing about this trimmer is its weight; it's VERY light!Sometimes light is good, other times it lends a feeling of 'cheap' to a product. In this case, given it's a device where a little weight would be handy, it feels a bit cheap.It looks nice though and, most importantly, for light usage anyway, it seems to work fine. I allowed a few other people to try it out and they weren't impressed and claimed it didn't cut. I had to tell them you have to press down, quite firmly, on the slider and then drag it to cut. A little unusual perhaps but no really problem once you get used to it!It also comes with three slots in the end for storing different styles of blades for different edges.These, I believe have to be bought separately. The review model I had only came with the one straight blade installed and no spares anyway.Essentially I found it perfectly adequate for my personal trimming needs. I imagine if you're doing a LOT of trimming then you may want something a little more heavyweight that you don't have to push down on, but for occasional use, it works fine.It's reasonable cheap and cheerful and not going to cause any accidents with little fingers. For straightforward basic use, it's fine. For more heavyweight users, you might want something with a little more heft that requires a little less effort to cut with!Perfectly adequate for the casual trimmer!

Our previous trimmer broke after quite a few years of (not too onerous) service. This time we wanted something reliable as we now have requirements to produce quantities of show cards for a twice yearly horticultural show - as well as usual home related stuff. Looking through Amazon reviews, it seemed that there was no real best buy in the cheaper end of the market, so we decided to pay more for this machine.On receipt, the initial view was that it was certainly bigger and heavier than the previous one. So it is worth looking at the dimensions and checking that its bulk will not be a nuisance for storing, if you are only using it occasionally. The upside is that it feels reassuringly sturdy,and placing and moving paper on its table was very easy. Measuring the cuts was easy, and our initial trial cuts confirmed that it cut square and cleanly.So we are pleased that we paid a bit more for this professional quality feeling machine. It makes trimming easier to do, and for storage it slips down the side of the office desk. We look forward to years of good service. Marked 4* rather than 5 simply because its longevity is not proven.(If we experience problems, this review will be updated!)

This is a perfectly adequate paper trimmer, because of its bulk, probably more suitable for office use than craft use, although it could be used effectively in either area.I have mainly used the trimmer for cutting A4 sheets down to A6 size, and various similar tasks, and I have found that it copes easily with the claimed 20 sheet capacity. The markings on the base of the trimmer make it simple to line up the paper for cutting, and the easily adjustable clamp ensures you have no disasters caused by paper slippage.The trimmer mechanism is obviously safer than the more traditional office "guillotine" paper cutters, and it really is very easy to use.It has certainly done everything I have required of it,and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product, certainly for home office use.

Having trawled the net for a reliable paper trimmer I opted for the:Fellowes Atom A4 rotary trimmer, the prices were a bit high for my budget until I checked Amazon, or should I say Amazing Amazon as they always come out top for prices and delivery.When the package arrived I thought it was an A3 m/c. It wasn't!!!The quality was great and although too big for my desktop I'll keep it elsewhere.The performance must be second to none giving a really clean cut and above all the ability to do this on a very narrow trim without bending the paper as my previous trimmer did.To me this warrants a five star + rating,especially if bought from Amazon.NOTE: I have no connection with Amazon other than being a very satisfied customer.markcus

After having a "bypass" rotary cutter for many years this one proved very different in operation. As the rotary wheel presses onto a replaceable cutting board it is like using a separate rotary cutter with a cutting mat. Obviously pressure has to be applies to achieve the cut rather than just running the slider with wheel along the paper. It does take a bit of getting used to ie remembering to put pressure on the slider as you push it along but once this is mastered it performs very well. A big bonus is that the unit is supplied with three spare cutting blades in easy to replace cartridges. The notes say that spare "cutting mat strips are also available.Overall it is probably a neater cut once you get used to applying the pressure.

Having nearly najered myself with a blunt, broken trimmer whilst at school (more years ago than I care to remember) I was happy to find this heavy, robust trimmer appears to be bullet-proof. The only thing I can foresee breaking is the plastic lockable guide, as it has a bit of flex in it when locked, but it's been fine so far.I've used it primarily for cutting out wedding invitations and have not had any problems whatsoever - the cut is accurate and you get no corner-curling at all.My only issue is cost: it's not cheap, and if you're only going to use it occasionally, you may want to think in getting a good metal ruler and cutting knife for half the price.Otherwise this is a great piece of equipment.

I make cards and other paper crafts, so a decent paper cutter is always a necessity. This cutter has some good points and one that could be improved;Pro;The cutter will cut 10 pieces of paper at once; I know because I tried it.The flat area is usefully marked out with lines and angles to make cutting various edges easier eg you can get a 45 degree angle cut out of the edgeThe cutter is quite well designed and comfortable to use. It slides across well.The blade can be swapped for a perforated or a scorer or a wavy cut. Spare blades are stored in the end of the cutter, so they're easy to get to and available

The only complaint I have about this is the terrible squeaking sound when I push it up the other way. Like nails on a chalkboard. Uhhhhh!! *shudders*. BUT to be fair, I am cutting in a very echoey warehouse so it's half my fault the noise is so awful. As for cutting, TOTAL WIN!! I cut loads of stuff every day with this and the lines are soooo neat and perfect. I never knew cutting stuff could be so satisfying and bring me so much pleasure. If you like cutting stuff that's neat, get yourself one of these. It's like having a Ferrari or something. Office swag, homies. Be jealous of all ma bling bling ;)

I use the trimmer for cutting thick card for craft projects, as standard cheaper A4 trimmers aren't big enough and the blade can't cope with the thickness of the card.This trimmer has no such problems, but I found it heavy to use. For me, this isn't a portable item I can just pull out when needed. It's quite a weight to carry out to the table top then put away again. The cutting motion is easy enough, I didn't have to force the blade with grim determination, it's just that I found the whole unit a little too heavy to carry for my use.

This trimmer cuts multiple sheets with ease which is great for saving time on larger formats.However if like us, you bought it for a range of media sizes & you are wanted to trim something smaller such as business cards the trimming/protective strip makes it VERY awkward due to its depth.The blade/runner is also very stiff but we're hoping this will loosen a little with time.Overall it's a great trimmer for A5 - A3 sheets I'm just not sure it ticks all the boxes we wanted it to.

If, like me, you really don't like A4 paper, then this is a great find. Don't like the way it's all regular and rectangular? Do you feel it's mocking you with its...completeness? This will give you many hours of paper-slicing pleasure. My only concern might be that the cuts it makes are straight, and sometimes you may want to be more creative, cut out the shape of a butterfly, for example, or a goblin cooking eggs. But that's what scissors are for, yes? Long live A5!

The machine does an excellent job - precise and clean cutting. The one concern I have is the handle is stiff to operate, lubrication no help, so I'm hoping it loosens up with more use. Heavy use also means heavy duty and just heavy (3.3kg). It is large; check the size and weight and make sure you have room to store if your office is small.The instruction book is so minimalist it is almost useless. 36 pages, 18 languages, 1 1/2 pages per language.
