I would have to largely re-iterate the sentiments of the reviewers before me when describing this Dahle A3 personal trimmer. The base is metal and the sliding rail also. There is a transparent clamp that you slide your paper under, line it up and simply swipe to achieve a nice clean cut. This is great if you are trimming home printed photographs or cards etc and could be used for a certain amount of volume work. That said you can only cut a few sheets of 80gsm paper at a time and if you load it up then holding it steady and making a nice cut gets a little more difficult. This is not meant for cutting those 500 leaflets you are thinking of knocking up at home.Good quality feel to it though and I am sure it will last for a long time. You can make slim cuts easily and they are nice and smooth edged. The hardest part is keeping your paper or card steady and lined up correctly. You should really use this machine with the length of it facing away from you so you push and pull the cutter away and towards, rather than side on.Recommended and worth paying the little extra cash for over some of the cheaper models, which all seem to fall apart quickly.

I have just received it.It is a simple, solid and quiet tool. It does its job as I have personally expected. It cuts making a clean edge. I also tested a number of papers and I could do max 8 pages of 80 g/m2; I would not got for more. It's a little bit wider than A4 but I can't test it against A3 though. The construction is rather OK. A rail is made of alloy, knife is enclosed in a plastic component, the base is rigid, definitely not plastic and rather made of metal. I give it 4 stars and the reason for that is a plastic bar over a paper, close to a trimming knife. The knife is too big and I cannot hold the bar while cutting papers. Having said that, the design is that the knife presses papers itself during the process preventing papers from moving. I personally don't like it and this is the reason for giving it 4 stars only!A few comments. It is for a personal or home use only and definitely not convenient for office or small businesses. The trimmer is very small and for occasional use like you would have a bunch of pictures to cut from holiday. I would rather advice to look for a more professional version if you plan to use it regularly!

I bought this some years ago to replace a British-made product which was far less accurate and with some operational faults. This has none of those issues. As stated, it will cut up to 5 sheets of 80gsm A4, although you may need to do so slowly as the thickness is at about the limit; 4 sheets is far more certain. I have also used it to cut card up to about 320gsm but it will also cut some plastics a little thicker than a credit card. The cutter stays where it needs to be, alongside the cutting edge, and does not rotate by 20-30 degrees as another once did. As the cutter head is moved between the two extremes, it presses down on the plastic safety rail and holds the material to be cut quite firmly. In normal use, there is no risk of a cut finger or worse as the cutter is quite well enclosed. Should one wear, I do believe that replacements can be obtained - in about 10 years of use (perhaps longer), that is one issue I have not yet needed to face.A brilliant little trimmer for office or hobby use provided that you won't need to cut anything larger.

So many reviews are written by people who have had their product for 5 minutes and are either elated or disappointed with it. I have had my Dahle Personal Trimmer for over 15 years. I bought it to cut all the programmes for my wedding and church service(thick card). I cut hundreds and every single one was neatly cut and easily aligned. I use it nearly every day as I cut a lot of photographs and craft papers including card. I still have the original blade and as my model is so old now, I doubt I can get a replacement but it still cuts cleanly. These are German made and excellent quality with a metal base and strong plastic trim. I really cannot fault it and as it has cost me less than a pound a year,it owes me nothing for years of service. I would highly recommend investing what will be the only trimmer you will need for the foreseeable future. If you can, buy the best you can afford, it is well worth the investment. Think about what your needs may be in the future - will you need A3 or A4 etc? Remember

As the other reviewer says, this is a quality item. Solidly built with a steel base and alloy rail, you can cut up to 7 sheets of 80gsm paper at a time, safely and accurately. Cutting action is smooth and the cutting edge is exactly 460mm wide. This is perhaps a little unfortunate, as had it been one inch wider it would have allowed cutting of the A3+ paper size which is becoming increasingly popular for home photo printing.Although the blade in the cutter head is self-sharpening and will probably last for many years of light-medium use, it is possible to replace it if necessary. This could be done in seconds by releasing the red clip to the left of the rail, and sliding out the rail and cutter head. The replacement part is the 00975 cutter head. Removing the rail and cutter head in this way also allows you to replace the semi-transparent paper clamp if required. But beware that these replacement parts cost over £20 and £10 respectively.

Great make, sturdy product, though I do find the blue marked surface slippy, so if you are cutting a card it WILL move if you are not holding it down hard, also if you place your card/paper against the very bottom edge of the trimmer it never comes out straight, I have had lots of trimmers (as i am a card crafter) and have never found one where you can just put it along the bottom and wahey it comes out straight, so I angle it slightly then its fine, as I know now what to expect.I also find that using the deckle edge cutting blade needs a lot more pressure to cut, you have to go over it a couple of times to actually cut through, or stand up to press down harder.(Think this could be improved)A handy part is the storage of the blades underneath it, means they will not be lost.1 star knocked off as I feel it could be improved

Unfortunately I ended up returning the first one these I had ordered because it was not cutting parallel to the edge of the paper, sadly however, the replacement was no better!I investigated a little further with the replacement and found some small screws underneath which hold the plastic ends to the metal base-plate. By slightly loosening these screws I found that I was able to adjust the angle of the plastic ends relative to the base-plate (using a sheet of A4 paper as a guide) and after re-tightening the screws I finally achieved parallel cuts. (There were no instructions advising how to do this btw)I'm now very happy with this cutter but I'm only giving it 4 stars because of the obviouspoor quality control during assembly.

Bought to replace the same model that lasted over 15 years. I'm hoping this gives as long a life as my first one. It seems exactly the same in build quality. I don't have any trouble doing fine trims from A4 or trimming down small photos. Other reviewers have noted it's not quite square at the top edge. This was unfortunately true of my first one but it's not a big issue and very easy to adjust your cut. Never try to cut too many sheets or anything too thick This is the easiest way to damage a trimmer. When the rotary blade gets blunt don't buy a new one straight away. You can double the life by taking it apart and simply reversing it!

Bought this to trim photos rather than to cut large quantities of paper. Just got it today, but it's worked perfectly for what I bought it for. Have given 4*s rather than 5* as I can't yet comment on whether it will last or fall apart in a few weeks.BTW - the "German Engineering by Dahle" printed on the top surface is counter-balanced by "Made in China" printed on the underside. So you would be getting something with a German design - but made in China. Only time will tell whether the build quality matches the design quality. (I've bought a lot of made-in-China products: many have been excellent, but frankly some have been shoddy.)

My wife was given a Dahle Paper by her parents over 20 years ago by her parents, her hobby is card making, she uses it for cutting all her paper needed for her children's Teaching Class, it is only now that she wants to replace it, she's always busy using this wonderful trimmer, it is only after all these years that she has asked me to give a new one for her birthday present, what more proof can one give but to 'Highly Reccommend' this excellent product, an unusual present but I know now that she will be happy for the next few years making a few thousand more cards of all sorts. I have owned one of these trimmers, the Dahle 507 for nearly 20 years. It is an excellent tool, easy to use and very accurate. Also, I think, very safe to use. Mine has been well used over the last 20 years and continues to give good service. My wife was always borrowing mine - so this Amazon purchase was a second one just for her. The design has not changed noticeably in 20 years and it still cuts consistently and accurately. The blade on mine was getting a bit blunt after 20 years of use so I recently bought a replacement blade - which can be done on-line - though not from Amazon.

I was looking for a trimmer to trim down some photos for an album. I decided to purchase this trimmer based on great reviews it already had, it is a little expensive for what it is, although it is sturdy, well-built, and cuts neatly and easily with useful measurement guides. I doubt you can buy a better A4 trimmer than this. The product is also light and not too heavy or bulky for the desk. Exactly what I needed and will come in useful for years to come. I would recommend this if you do the occasional craft work, mounting, flyers, newsletters etc.

This was my first paper cutter/trimmer and I did research a lot before buying. I must say I haven't been disappointed. I bought the 460mm Cutting Length/ 0.6mm Cutting Capacity - Blue version. Its excellent. During the 18 months of its use, I have primarily used it for home office and home school projects. I have successfully cut:Paper from 180-400 gsmdocument wallets, plastic sleeveslaminated paper from 80-250 micronsWell made, nice pleasant ocean blue/green color. most important the blade is sharp and gives perfect cut every time.

I have had this model before, but an accident made it virtually impossible to use, so I searched the local stores for a replacement, without success and so went for a cheaper version, NOT one of my better decisions. After a fairly lengthy discussion with the guy I bought it from, I did get a refund and learned a lesson at the same time, Cheap doesnt mean Bargain.Ten minutes sat here and a couple of days waiting time, my new Dahle Trimmer arrived and its even better than the old one, Its a dream to use and does a perfect job every time.

I thought it was blunt (I baught a used warehouse deal) I had filled out the return spent ages looking at other trimmers both cheap and expensiveAnd I saw a comment on a trimmer that said the blade was not turning and I thought ohhh I bet that is what is happening here so I took it apart blew out the paper dust and it works fantasticCancelled the returnEdit 2 months on.......Its still perfect not had a single problem with it very happy and if I do have any issues that I can't fix they sell blades guards etc
