I was sceptical about how well this would work for me. I have had amps with built in compressors that seemed to do nothing at all but was urged by a friend to try using a compressor pedal and to shop around for a good inexpensive one. So I found this one, with mostly good reviews for a low budget item and just thought it was not too much to lose to find out. I was just blown away by how much it improved my sound! My playing just sounds so much “cleaner” if that’s the right word. Some reviewers have complained that it can add unwanted noise at high compression and gain levels but that doesn’t happen to me, even with the knobs cranked up to max. I guess it depends how well grounded your equipment is.I was a bit worried when, after playing for a couple of hours, all I got was a very loud buzzing noise and no sound at all from my instrument when the pedal was active. I thought, “Oh no! No wonder it was sold so cheap.” Not the symptom I would expect from a dying battery but as it turned out, that’s exactly what the problem was. I did buy a used item, after all. One new battery later and it was working beautifully once again. So for anyone who has never used a compressor before, and is unsure how much good they can do, I can thoroughly recommend this one to start with. Well made, relatively inexpensive, easy to use and does an amazing job.Addendum: great as this device is it needs a DC power adapter because it eats batteries ravenously.Read full review...

First up: You're not going to get tonnes of features for the price. What you'll get is a solid little compressor, that's a good start point for getting used to using them and understanding what they can do to your sound.Secondly: Individual pedals are much, much more intuitive and immediate to use than those multi-fx pedals, which light up like Christmas trees and have a gazillion settings.I use this as my 'mostly always on' compressor; to even the dynamics out a little before my distortion-type effects. It's not really versatile enough to use as an effect in itself (though the attack options are nice). If you want all the 'bells & whistles' you'll have to shell out about twice the price. For anyone just dipping into bass fx, on a budget or just curious, I'd recommend giving it a go.Read full review...
