Dragonshard (Aug 2008) has a very compelling storyline or 'plot' if you like, and easy fun. It plays in 2 modes, RTS and RPG, a pretty novel idea which is it's saving grace. It is possible to focus on the RTS chapters in the game, where your skill at clicking and strategizing is often tested, but never fully rewarded. As each battle progresses, you get the usual change of enemies, but generally it comes down to establishing ambushes, deciding on unit types... Then creating groups of them to rush positions with, and thinking economy all the while.I enjoyed the "underground" RPG sections more, even though they are not really RPG, you get to build a party, but the potions, weapons and buffs are all pretty basic.Once you find what items and play combination works for you, you stick to it for as long as possible. You never get a chance to really imerse yourself in your hero's actions. This is because you swap heroes, and end up playing in different styles as required by each one's abilities. BUT the graphics and controls work really well with the game. Dragonshard was a great filler after re-playing Diablo, Baldurs Gate and coming off the back of Diablo II. (I started on the Elder scrolls series afterwards.) I give Dragonshard a 4, because it is a playable RPG and a good RTS, while it excels at neither it was more fun to play than most titles in the same space.

Given the age of the game and that I purpose bought it for a WinXP laptop (on which it runs just fine) I didn't expect miracles from this game. And I didn't get them!It looks okay and to be honest there are a few okay ideas here. The "normal RTS above ground" vs the "RPG style below ground" is not as revolutionary as it is made out to be. The game play style and feel are very similar. After all, the units in the two setting types still look exactly the same (albeit with/without companions).Given the very low price (baragain!) at the moment, I would have liked to offer up a full 4 stars for fun too. But the uninspired mission design and a tutorial with no decent skip scene function let it down a little.Still, a bargain at under four quid!

Good fun, pity Wizards of the Coast don't do more to support the Eberron campaign world.Dungeons and Dragons online still does a damn fine job of that.
