I really did not know what an "Alternator Spray" was. Apparently, its a type of hair spray, that is a bit lighter, allowing you to restyle during the day, and it will hold your hair in the new style. I honestly do not have enough hair to try alternative styles, so cannot vouch whether this is the case, however it is a nice light spray and a small amount does hold your hair in style, without feeling overly "crunchy" like some sprays and gels.As with all the American Crew products, it smells lovely too. A good alternative to wax for those wanting a lighter hold, however would I pay £12 for it? Possibly not - I rarely pay £12 for any hair produce, and that includes a hair cut. So, a nice product,

American Crew do a great range of male grooming products (their American Crew Nine fragrance is my favourite), and they have a whole variety of different products for hair hold and styling, gels, mousses and sprays that give different strength holds. All of them are good quality, non-sticky with a fresh subtle scent that is never overpowering giving a natural look and feel. The Alternator Finishing Spray is for a different kind of effect, not so natural, more like a Toni & Guy Sea Salt Spray, that can be used for giving a 'windswept' or tousled look. Not so keen on this myself, but if used sparingly and on shorter hair, it works fine,

This spray is a bit on the small side at just 100ml but is great for adding a bit of texture or additional control to a style so long as it is used sparingly. I have been using it alongside other American Crew styling products and whilst I wouldn't use this spray on it's own it makes a good companion to a styling paste or gel just to give that finishing touch. That's not to say it can't be applied on its own as a flexible medium hold styling spray but probably only really suitable for shorter hair and in my opinion works far better as a finishing product rather than a standalone styling product.

In what is quite a confusing line-up of hair-care products, this particular spray is intended to be a fairly light hold so best used on short-ish hair that is not too unruly. It does not produce a rigid hold, and it does give a certain degree of re-adjustment over the course of a day, but don’t expect too much - nothing is going to set firm. But if your style is quite light and malleable you might find this is the perfect product for you, as it is not heavy and not sticky. Used sparingly it provides just a good, flexible and light hold, with the bonus of it smelling quite nice at the same time.

Perfect for medium to medium-long hair, spray it over for the perfect shiny effect (one step below water wet looking style), I find it needing quite a lot of application for the desired effect which in turn required good wash afterwards, since after several hours made my hair look too oily. But that's probably just me and using a lot of product in one go, in any case I like the effect and it smells really nice. I find it most effective when used occasionally and for a night out, not the style I would have every day of the week.

I was expecting this product to come with a lid, but on further inspection of the product imagery it is clear there is no cap for this spray which is a bit odd in my opinion.This is great for applying to hair to mould and shape with moderate hold, or as an alternative to hair spray to help keep a look more firmly in place. It won't make your hair rock solid like a fixing spray would, but it smells much better. I've really enjoyed using it recently and will definitely consider buying another bottle when it runs out.

I have used American Crew products for many years and I have been happy with their quality. This product is no different. I use it after applying a small amount of Leave in Conditioner. I squirt some onto my hands and run it over my hair. Give it a brush in and it holds the hair without any kind of sheen on it. It can also be sprayed directly onto the hair and is a light hairspray type product, but without the stickiness. Overall, this is a good product, it works and so I am happy to Recommend it.

This is a pleasant smelling spray supplied in a small 100ml bottle with a pump spray dispenser. I tried it on my hair after washing and you do not need much. It is best with shorter hair and offers a light hold giving body without making it too stiff and sticky. You do not need very much but the bottle is small and will not last very long.That said it does wash out cleanly and smells very nice and it does provide a measure of hold so if that is what you are after it could be just what you need.

I first tried American Crew Alternator Gel spray when a Barber in Sydney recommended it to me as an alternative to mousse. It worked very well for my hair as both a pre blow drying spray and a style finishing alternative to hair spray, and was much easier and less messy to apply. I continued to use it the whole time I was there and when I returned back to the UK, I was very pleased to see amazon supplying it! I look forward to every time I use it, as it also smells amazing!

Perfect if you want a bit of volume and lift but without it looking like you've actually got any product in. Works best on top hair that's no more than about 5 inches long. A few sprays and work it through really well to style, if you let it sit it'll harden like hairspray. A lot more manageable than spray as you can actually twist and get a bit of a wave with it. Neither feminine nor masculine smelling, it's neutral scented and a non-greasy product that works really well.

I’ve used a few American Crew products recently and have been happy with them although the price can be a bit on the high side. This is just a 100ml spray bottle so pretty small. It gets used in a similar way to a hair spray adding a bit of body and hold without leaving your hair too hard although when it dries it does set. The smell is nice - a sort of masculine aftershave scent. An interesting, if slightly different, product in their range.

A good product for short to medium length hair.This is good for holding hair in place when used as a finishing spray, but works equally well if used on wet hair which is then brushed and dried into style- rather like a mousse.The hold is firm enough to control hair, but dont so strong as to make hair crunchy and plastic looking.It has a masculine smell, rather like a generic aftershave and smells good for ages on hair.

This is an alternative to hair spray to me, its great at finishing a style or If you want a quick bit of hair pamper, its ideal for giving the hair a bit of a lift and bounce, none sticky and doesn’t look like you have a product in your hair once its dried, it give a firm set which doesn’t allow you to rework once set.I like it, its great on the dressing table If I want a quick spruce before a quick dash out the house.

I frequently use spray gels to help my hair stay in shape after hair drying it. This comes in a 100ml bottle, meaning it can go on plane journeys! The scent is inoffensive and it has a reasonable strength, although I find it isn't as strong as other gels I've used. After a few hours use my hair is slightly out of place, but it is easy to reshape once in.
