I'm writing this review after only 2 rides, so had to be neutral on durability, longevity, and value. However, if I had not done the install and could rate the ride quality, comfort and rolling resistance they would be 5 stars. I used Goldylocks sealant with no problems, but do not try to put more than 2 oz. In these tires. I found some tricks for installation. The hook bead is very thick, which is good. That high quality bead presents significant install challenges. I.E. on some hooked TL rims, after getting about a 2 thirds of the bead on the rim, the bead will start slipping off on the opposite side. It can become a never ending battle. After getting the tire to about 2 thirds I placed 2 very tight zip ties around the rim and tire where the bead was in the rim. Then using a flat-ended tire tool start working the opposite side onto the rim no more than an inch at a time until the entire bead is in the rim. If you use a tire tool with a point you will probably damage the tape and get leaks. You also might want to protect and decals on the rim with painter tape. My advice...never use more than 80 psi on hooked rims. The rims can cut through the bead at high pressure.

These feel like if there were an ultra-lightweight version of 28mm Paselas... except they’re 23mm. I guess this is what “supple casing” is?I’ve got them cranked up to 120lbs and am using them as slush slicers on my winter commuter on cracked and holey city streets (dumb. I know.) and they ride way less awful than I expected. Really they ride pretty great. So much softer than expected and THE GRIP! 10 degrees Fahrenheit, sleet, slush, and I’m not even slightly spooked into unclipping unless some JA in front of me pulls some genius move.I’m very seriously thinking about getting the 28mm version for the summer and getting a big enough saddle bag for three spare tubes,a cleaning kit and a small c-clamp for setting patches on the tire itself. That’s the trade-off. Durability. These have none. I’ve never ever found glass shards this big before. Twice now I’ve gotten one that cuts nearly the whole contact area. Bit of a bummer, but to be fair- most people use these as a race tire only and don’t even train on them, let alone commute through a city with them.I plan on buying more.

On its standard packaging, it was excellent. at 90 psi, width measures at 24cm.I've been using the same conti gp 4000s on my rb for the past 6 years but when it was time to replace it, most stores ran out stock. I tried a gatorskin for almost a year it was the mounting on the rim that discouraged me. It was simply tough and hard. And so I tried this gp 5000 with the 4000s in mind.It did not disappoint. I understand it takes a little while to get the feel of the comparison but at 90 psi and on a 60 km mix cemented and asphalted road, the rolling was superb and I did not feel the discomfort of the bumps. Going on a 4 km 10% slope, the ascent felt like I was using the same old 4000s and not as hard as the gatorskin. But it was on the downhill that I can say it was way smoother than the gatorskin because i did not feel the imperfection of its roundness, in other words, the rolling was better. This is still a new set of tires so I can't have any idea on its durability or longevity but if it is better than the 4000s I presume it will last longer than 6 years with me.

I have used 4 sets of Grand Prix tires on 2 different bikes (some were the 4000's, others the 5000's). I am not a racer; I'm 61 years old and ride 100 - 120 miles a week on roads of various conditions; my Specialized bikes use 700x28 tires. I've found the Grand Prix tires to be quiet and with low rolling resistance. They have outstanding grip in dry conditions and good grip in wet conditions, although I try not to ride when the roads are wet. I think they also are very puncture-resistant -- I have to deal with gravel on some of my rides and have not had a flat due to gravel, only sharp pieces of metal (and in most of those situations, I got a slow leak, not a flat). My only issue, which I've learned to deal with, is the Grand Prix are somewhat more difficult to mount on my wheels than other tires I have used. Overall, I think this is an outstanding tire and well worth the price.

I got tired of fixing lots of flats, so decided to go tubeless on my road bike.Having ridden on them for a few hundred miles, they're great! Zero flats, more comfortable, and faster than the previous GP4000 SII's I had before. However, getting them mounted was a freaking nightmare. Different rims can all be 'tubeless compatible' but have pretty different dimensions, leading to a guessing game of if your combo will be normal or impossible to get mounted. In my case, it took nearly breaking my tire irons + a lot of cursing to get them on. Use soapy water + all the tricks in the book, or have a local shop do the install for you, because they are not nearly as stretchy as the non-tubeless version. It makes sense, they are more heavily reinforced to keep their seal, but it was incredibly frustrating nonetheless.tl;dr - pay someone else to mount them, then they're great.

I bought a 25c 5000 tire to replace a 25c 4000S II that had develop a bad bump in the tread within the first hundred miles of riding it. The 25c 5000 tire is 3 millimeters narrower than the 25c 4000 tire. So basically, I should have bought a 28c 5000 tire to be the same size as the old 25c 4000S II. That is frustrating as a consumer. Makes me consider buying different brands in the future. Anyone buying a 5000 tire may want to keep this in mind when buying. It is frustrating that Continental doesn’t make their tires with consistent sizing. Treadwear, and traction are all great with these tires. Contacted Continental's customer service about my GP 4000S II and my 5000's. They wouldn't respond. After 20 years of riding Continental tires, it's time to move on to a different brand. They have lost a loyal customer.

I've rolled with Continental GP4000 tires for years and recently made the switch to the newer GP5000. I have them on two of my bikes right now in 700-23 and 700-25 sizes. They are great tires. The roll with minimal resistance, corner well, and are very durable. I've also used pro-level tires from Hutchinson, Roval (Specialized), Mavic, and Michelin. But I like the Continental GP series the best. The only knock I've ever had on the GP4000 or GP5000 is the tight fit and stiff bead. Getting the last few inches of the tire onto the rim has always been a struggle on alloy or carbon wheels. But that is no longer a problem thanks to the Kool Stop Tire Bead Jack available on Amazon for less than $14.It is cheap and works quickly and easily. If you use Continental tires, this tool is a must-have.

Update 5 days later: apparently racing tires, like this, only last 1000-1400 miles, according to my buddies from the cycling club, so I'm adjusting my expectations :)I got them in April for 2020 season, now its mid-June, I put about 1800 miles in them and its totally squared off, no depth indicators, and I see few spots where I see cord (see picture). I hoped they last longer, I ride fast, and its hilly here, and I'm 205lbs. Front tire is perfectly fine. In total I punctured rear tire 4 times, front - 2, I only noticed punctures at home, when seen sealant over frame, never it caused any issues during rides, no need for any patching or stopping, just pump it up once in a week. Overall I'm happy with them, will be free replacing rear tire.

Replaced the stock Bontrager H2 Comp tires that came with a new TREK FX2 bike I purchased recently with the GP5000 700x32Cs. I perform a 15 mile training circuit that I track via Polar Beat for both Heart rate and GPS. I hit a new PR best first time out with the tires and noticed that my speed rolling downhill also registered max speeds as well. These definitely roll better and are faster than what I had previously. I also noticed that my turning capacity, road grip, and comfort were very noticeably improved (dry conditions). I'm very happy with them since they completely met my expectations as far as speed and control were concerned.Need to see how they perform on wet pavement and longevity of course.

Pro - Smooth, connected, solid, quiet riding on the straights, confident grippy in the corners.Pro/Con - Seems dense. Not sure if it is heavier than others, might be why it feels soo good? Since I'm not racing and it is so good in all other areas - I don't care.Replaced a Bontrager 26c R3 with this. R3 also gave confident cornering but felt skittish and has started wearing quickly. It also has alot of road hiss; kept looking behind me for cars. I still have one on my rear wheel; great place for it - can't hear it.I might now be a Continental "fan boy". Have gone through a fair number of others - keep regretting it when I stray.

I can directly compare this tyre to the Schwalbe Pro One which is highly rated and ofen top of its class. I've used 2 of the Schwalbes (rear wheel) on my race bike and they both cut up severely in the early days of use on UK roads. I switched to the Continental 5000 TL as a lifelong user of this brand and it far more durable. Despite in the region of 800km with this tyre (rear) and on familiar roads, it shows no signs of cutting up or wear. Unlike with the Schwalbes I can go out for a 3 hour plus ride without any concern for a puncture that will not self-seal with the internal sealant.

Wow! Didnt think tires could make this much difference. Went from using 23c Bontrager Hard case that came on a BMC racer SL01 I bought used to these and made it completely different handling bike. 23c made the bike feel harsh and skittery, I had no fun on it. These made the bike "come alive" with much more confidence in turns and lower rolling resistance. Can't speak to longevity yet, but am riding way more because I enjoy it so worth any money to replace tires as needed. Only con is these are very hard to mount. Praying I don't need a roadside tube flat change before they stretch!!!!

I have the 32 mm tubeless version. These baby’s roll fast and comfy. 2k miles and I can still slightly see the rear depth gauge dimples. Never flatted on a ride. Had maybe 4-5 sealant sprays but they closed up and I kept riding. Awesome feeling!Edit: so lately I’ve been adventuring out on gravel dirt roads. I think the rubber is too weak to hold up to constant rocks and debris. Tires were great at 2k miles on the road (check the first pic). I put about 4-500 miles on gravel and then the rubber casing is coming apart. These are road tires don’t take them on gravel roads too much.

These are the fastest tires I've had on my road bike, which I've owned for 20 years and a lot of different tires. They're about as fast as the Vittoria Corsa G+ 2.0, yet more robust and longer lasting. That's a great combo! In absolute terms, they're not the most robust tires. They're made for racing or time trials. But they are relatively robust, when compared to other light racing tires. I ride them on normal streets and typically get around 1,000 miles out of them. When they eventually die, it's usually due to damage from gravel/glass/debris, before the tread is worn down.

The tire (25 mm) is difficult to get over the rim. A DT-Swiss alloy wheel is having a hard time. An ax-Lightness carbon rim did not work in the first attempt. Therefore, I first pulled the tire over an aluminum rim, inflated to 6 bar and then after a day on the alloy rim made a second attempt with the carbon rim. I was able to raise it with all tricks (3 tire levers + Schwalbe Easy Fit). I'm sure my Bontrager carbon rim will not tire. When the tire sits on the rim, there's nothing left to complain about. Therefore 4 stars for use on alloy wheels.
