My daughter adores logic puzzles and has eight of them now, seven of which are made by SmartGames. I recently went on a bit of a buying spree because we had an 18-hour car ride ahead of us (and 18 hrs back) plus her birthday is next month. This review is to address something I didn't see in any of the reviews I read--and granted I was in a bit of a hurry--which is the appropriate age range for the games as they compare to one another, ie if you are deciding between games.IN MY EXPERIENCE, the lower end of the age range is most appropriate. For example, Night and Day is listed as 36mos-6 years but my girl who turns five next month does the puzzles without having even to think about them.In other words, no challenge whatsoever. We just bought it and already it's obsolete.Luckily, inside one of the games was a "US Collection" brochure which lists all SmartGames and their target age. If you are hunting around for a logic game and aren't sure where to start, use this chart. And yes, they really are this age-specific. I can see an obvious progression in required thinking/logic skills between a recommended age 3 game, a recommended age 4 game, and the recommended age 5 games. (And no wonder she's not interested in Anti-Virus--it's for seven-year-olds! Something I failed to notice as I got caught in the "clicking around amazon" rabbit hole.) Anyway, here is the info from the catalog:3+ Day & Night3+ Castle Logix3+ Trucky 33+ SmartCar4+ Camelot Jr (we have gotten hours of play out of this one)5+ Bill & Betty Bricks5+ Color Code5+ Pirates Hide & Seek5+ the GoGetter games 'Cat & Mouse' and 'Prince & Dragon'(These are exactly the same game just themed differently.)5+ Magnetic Travel Waterworld5+ Magnetic Travel Magic Forest5+ Magnetic Travel Busy Bugs5+ Magnetic Travel Noah's Ark6+ IQ Fit6+ IQ Twist6+ Aqua Belle6+ North Pole Camouflage6+ Penguins on Ice6+ Chicken Shuffle7+ bendit7+ Temple Trap7+ Anaconda7+ SmartPhone7+ Safari Hide & Seek7+ Road Block7+ Cannibal Monsters7+ Anti-Virus7+ Troy: Outside The Walls8+ MetroVille8+ Traffic Control Airport8+ TitanicAs always, I love the learning component, the progression in difficulty of the puzzles, and the quality of the games! And most fit back into the box (Bill & Betty Bricks, Camelot Jr), are self contained in that the board is also the case for the pieces (Color Code, Pirates, Dog & Cat), or come with a little zipping bag (Anti-Virus). Day & Night does not have any kind of container and the box doesn't work as a container, so that is a bit of a bummer.

We bought this game for my daughter for Christmas. She will be 5 years old in May. After three months of play, she still adores it, works through the book from easy to hard and takes it with her when we go camping or on hotel trips. It is a great logic puzzle game that really makes kids think out of the box and apply problem solving skills. The box says that it is one-player, but for the advanced levels, depending on the age of your child, it is perfectly fine to work together to solve the puzzles. It provides hours and hours of entertainment and education. Not only are the pieces durable solid wood, but the box itself is durable and comes with its own storage compartment to keep everything nice and neat while put away or during transport. The colors are bright, the rules are simple and the book of puzzles is well designed and easy to understand, progressing from simple to more advanced by the end. My daughter even likes to role-play the knight and princess talking to one another as they figure out how to make a path to get from one side of the challenge tower to the other. Fantastic fun toy that your child will thank you for! 5 out of 5

I bought this based on all the positive reviews. I was looking for a toy that would promote STEM thinking in my 8yr old daughter. She likes this okay, but it is not right for my very creative child. I showed her the book and what she had to do which she picked up on quickly and solved many of the puzzles for several minutes. But then it was all about playing with the prince and princess and making up her own game about them. There are other things out there designed with girls in mind that I wish now I had gotten instead--like Goldiblox and Roominate. Both of those toys allow for more creative play (or appear to...I don't own them). My daughter is not the type to sit and follow rules in a book. For the more intellectually-minded child, this toy would be great and for also for a puzzle lover. But for those of us with children who don't have the patience to look in a book to solve a puzzle, I'd go for one of the more creative toys I listed.

So, you got another invite to a class birthday party...you know the birthday party....the WHOLE class gets invited!! The kids are young and you don't really know what to bring as a gift. You can pick up something at your local box store, sure but it won't last and there is no guarantee that the kid will even like it or play with it. Enter SMARTGAMES! I stumbled across this gem of a company in the Fall and purchased an age appropriate puzzle for my daughter. It was a complete hit! Our daughter LOVES to do her day/night challenge. I particularly liked that it is a one person player game. As a mother of an only child, I know firsthand how difficult at times it can be to find stimulating activities for your kiddo to play on their own. When giving a gift, I want to give something that will last and is educational. The concept of a logic puzzle, with a spin of fun to entice kids, is pure GENIUS!

I am loving this toy more than maybe any other toy my children have had in the past 6.5 years. Got this as a present for my 4.5-yr-old daughter. She LOVES princesses and is often engaged in imaginative play about princesses & princes. Her older brother has enjoyed several different logic games over the past couple of years, and I realized it was time to try to engage her in something like that as well. This is right in her wheelhouse. She also enjoys building, and this is such a great way to build on (pardon the pun) her spatial awareness and get her to think creatively while ostensibly working to help the princess and knight meet each other. The pieces are well made, and although the box is big,the actual game doesn't take up much room at all. The book starts with easy challenges and has solutions on the back of each puzzle. Two huge thumbs up for this game!

This is a a great game; it sparks the imagination and develops critical thinking. Figuring out how to have the knight rescue the princess (or the princess rescue the knight) teaches problem solving, spatial manipulation and persistence. The different levels of difficulty let a child progress as their skills improve, and kids will do the same challenges each time they play, until their skills let them progress to the next level. This would certainly be a great game for a range of ages, up through early grade school. It is suitable for patient children a bit younger too. My son is 3 and loves this game; he plays it often, and he has gotten quite good at the starter level.I expect him to continue playing and improving for several more years.

It's a fantastic game. My 4.3yr old likes it. She completed the first 12 starter level games in no time without even having to think. The junior level is challenging her a bit. It makes her think to keep trying different arrangements to arrive at a solution. I am glad that its teaching her the perseverance needed to try multiple moves without giving up (needs motivation at times when she feels struck). We would be moving to 3rd level in a couple of days, but I guess that would be a bit complex for her. It's made of really nice solid wooden pieces and very durable. It looks cute. Very few pieces to manage and it teaches discipline in having to follow the book instructions. I am very pleased.

This was a huge success with every child I've played it with. I first gave it to my nephew when he was 3.5 and everyone played with it - even adults had fun figuring out the hardest puzzles. The princess/knight component makes it much more fun than any other puzzle since they can play with it when the puzzle is done. It's also great that's it's set up so that sometimes the princess rescues the knight too instead of only the reverse. It builds skill, it is fun, the pieces are great, and the box can hold the pieces (not the case for all Smart Games). I will buy another copy for my daughter, and probably many more for other children as time goes by. You can not go wrong with this game.

This was by far the absolute best choice of Christmas gifts I ever bought for my grandaughter in the entire 4 years of her life , It was the least expensive of 500 dollars spent on Christmas, and she spent all day with Camelot JR and was the first thing she played with at home after asking to take it home from Nana and Grandpas , She hasn't put it down, She loves this puzzle toy and I have recommended it to all my neighbors and friends ,I also want to add that my 4 year old grandaughter recieved an IPad , a scooter , dolls , and many other toys and games ,, but THIS game and also a B-toy Symphony B were the 2 toys she loved , especially Camelot JR

This is probably the best puzzle game for children I've ever seen. I work as a pediatric OT and every child loves it. The picture on the front is totally misleading. It is NOT a preschoolers fantasy game. It is a puzzle game with levels that start out very simply in the NOVICE section and graduate in difficulty to MASTER. The book that comes with it lays out the individual puzzles and then gives the answers. Great for visuospatial reasoning and flexibility (eventually you have to realize that the blocks can be oriented in several different ways). Funny....my 75 year old mother got stuck about 15 puzzles in. Definitely NOT a baby game!

This is an excellent game which blends fun with learning. In the beginning I had to play it with my daughter but once she understood the set up it became a 1 player game as the box says. You could however play with more than one child. This is a great game to have the grandparents play with the kids because the adults catch on fast and it makes for excellent quality time provided the adult can sit back and encourage and fight the urge to tell the child where the pieces should go. :). Once the child figures out a solution with the pieces, we all beam with pride!! And everyone wants to move on to the next puzzle in the game.

Really neat logic game. You put the prince and princess on opposite sides and figure out how to place the other designated blocks the right way and in the right spot so that they can reach each other. My 5 year old loves it and can figure most of them out with a bit of challenge on the hardest level. My 3 year old would have no clue at this point. So I think age 4 or 5 is a good starting point. It really makes them think, and you can see them mulling it over in their heads. It also teaches perseverance because - especially on the most difficult ones - the correct answer is not obvious right away, even for me.

This is a great toy. It is fun, because of the princess, knight, castle and even the bats in the puzzle layout pictures! And it has excellent educational value for developing spatial reasoning. The different levels are progressively more challenging and build upon each other. We bought when our daughter was 3.5, and now at almost 4, she is working on the Expert level. Most importantly, she enjoys working these puzzles, and I can visibly see her satisfaction and pride when she solves the puzzle, and is able to rescue the knight/princess! The materials are great quality.

I bought this game for my son who is in kindergarten. He loves it and so do I. The blocks are well made and simple. The book is colorful and allows the player to move at their own pace. The sturdy box is designed so that each piece fits perfectly in its own slot which helps when it is time to clean up. They make a non-junior version of this game and I will definitely be purchasing that one in the future. The reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 was b/c I wish there were more challenges to create. Maybe they could come out with a second book of designs!

Santa brought this for my 3 year old daughter, however, this game has been played with by almost every member of the family. The blocks are sturdy and the princess and knight are very cute. This game challenges kids to build a way for the knight to reach the princess with only certain blocks. The challenge book is spiral bound and looks sturdy. It may be labelled for younger kids, but even adults can be challenged and have fun! This gift will be in my gift closet for pre-schoolers and kindergarteners. I highly recommend.
