I wanted a larger volume pannier that had rounded lower front edges. Those give more clearance while peddling. I almost selected the Axiom Dutch Shopper [Axiom makes very good panniers.] The Dutch Shopper is no longer in production but was still available in "rust" on Amazon when I was buying. I saw the Basil Tour XL Double Bicycle Bag while looking at my other options. It was among the lowest priced 600D nylon, larger volume panniers available at the time. At 40 liters capacity, it is slightly larger than Axiom's Dutch Shopper. It also has bonus features the Axiom doesn't have: Zippered small pouches on each side handy for small items and double verticle reflective strips on the front and rear edges for added safety at night.Unlike some other panniers that can have a "floppy" appearance, the Basil Tour has rigid vinyl panels that insert in interior front and rear edge sleeves [that seal shut with velcro] and in flaps on the bottom. It creates a pleasing, firmly defined shape. It also makes the pannier rigid so that it's just about impossible to get caught in the spokes, unlike what some reviewers have noted in other products. The quality of the 600D nylon fabric is top notch, the edging and stitching show great attention to detail. It also looks like unless submerged in water, it is completely water tight: The lightly cushioned lid fits like a box lid over the front and rear panels by about 3" and the side panel by about 4".

I bought these recently as part of my project to covert my 2009 Trek 7200 to an electric bike. The kit I installed included a rear rack to hold the battery which powers a rear hub motor. I wanted panniers to give me some cargo capacity and to cover the battery. These are extremely well made and well thought out. They are still where they need to be and can be stiffened further with the included stiffeners (which I haven't found necessary to use). They are large enough to hold a pretty good bag of groceries in each one, or to put my jacket, helmet, gloves and tools in one bag. They fold up a bit to make them more slender when not filled if you leave out the optional stiffeners. For my electric bike,I wasn't sure if they would be wide enough to cover the 48V battery rack, but they fit perfectly.I was also concerned about my size 12 shoes hitting as I pedaled but on my bike with the battery rack, my feet have plenty of room.Highly recommended!

Good quality double pannier bag, with plenty of storage space. Has a curved corner, so that your feet don't hit the bags while pedalling. The best feature, for me, is that it is rigid. Most pannier bags are flexible, which means that unless they are fully loaded and the straps fastened they will get int contact with the wheel spokes while riding, often with disastrous consequences.. This one has a rigid wall, where it contacts the bike, plus plastic panels to insert and make the remaining walls rigid as well. Never had any problem with that.So far (after one week using), only imperfect thing about it is that it's not water-proof. It does get most of the water out,but it does let a bit of humidity come through to the inside if left in the rain for a few hours.

Very nice, sturdy bags. I've been using them with the Topeak QR Beam Rack A Type (http://amzn.com/B000FI6WQ8) and Topeak MTX Dual Side Pannier Frame (http://amzn.com/B000FI6WRW) that goes with it for about 3 and a half years now. I put them through some abuse, loading them up with stuff about once or twice a week, and they're holding strong. They only recently started showing minor wear on the bottoms so I bought some heavy duty black duct tape, put a layer inside and I have no doubts that will keep it going another 3 years or more. When they're not in use, I fold them flat against the bike and secure them to the pannier frame with bungees. Well worth the price.

I'm very pleased to receive these bags for my bike, and it turned out to be efficient no matter when I went swimming or shopping. Loved the shape and the size, which made the bags totally perfect for daily uses. One thing that i was a little unhappy about was the smell when I firstly opened the package and the bags as well. Fortunately it disappeared as I used it more. Also it was water proof, which helped keep my stuff dry even in rainy days.P.S. one suggestion is that you need to figure out a more stable way to place it on the rack, otherwise it may dispositioned with different weight in the bag.

I purchased these bags based on other good reviews especially a guy from Seattle since I also live in the region. Wow...Plenty of room and easy to install. I did use a zip tie to connect the lower part of the bag to my rack as another reviewer suggested. These bags fit well ,keep their form even when empty, and are perfect for my commutes and shopping. They appear durable and should survive any crashes I'm hoping not to have. I do like the flaps that cover the entire opening...good for wetter days. The price was right...Couldn't be happier based on my needs and the cost.

This is a well built bag and fairly roomy. However, I have a couple of reservations for our use (mainly lots of shopping). The bag is quite rigid, so it isn't easy to pack extra in. More traditional softer panniers can often bulge out to hold quite a bit more volume. Also, the straps are not adjustable, so can't be connected at all if the bag is overfilled at the top.The zip picket is absurdly small. I knew it was small, but this is ridiculous.

Bought two sets of these for wifes and my bikes. They are made better than I had expected, especially for this price. A breeze to install on racks we already had. The design provides generous room for pedal clearance. Only time and use will tell of durability, but with the heavy duty materials used for construction, we're very confident. Full marks for this item.

FYI: I'm very mechanically inclined, it took me about ½ hr to get this mounted w/ the additional rack onto the bike. The rack however lacked sufficient hardware to attach @ the seat stem. I resorted to the antiquated "bail wire" for a quick-fix until I find a proper fitting.

I love these panniers, they hold a whole lot of stuff. They are on the heavy side though and if they're not position perfectly they hit my feet, I still enjoy them, usually when I'm on a long trip. But I don't really use them anymore in my day-to-day commuting.

I love these bags! They are exactly the size I was looking for; they fit library books and bags from errands around town well and are not in the way when I am riding. They seem well-made and durable and I expect them to last for many years.

Not too big...not too small. I love the fact that they retain their shape...making it easy to load and unload them. Dead easy to install...5 minutes on my bike, but I already had a rear rack.

This is a very nice set of h.d. bags for medium size (Kavan XL is big), They have flat plastic pieces that slide in on the front and back, the bottom sits in there, so bags keep shape.

I am 100% satisfied with these bags. They are of a good quality and look great on the bike. They were also very easy to put onto the bike. It only took me 5 minutes to install them.
