I regularly work nights and so have to sleep during the day on those weeks. I got these blackout curtains to help enable me to sleep during the daytime. They are very good at blocking out most of the light, except at the top of the curtain pole, which I suppose is not really the curtains fault itself. It would be nice though if there could be a flap strip all along the top of the curtains, so that once fully drawn out, it could be lifted up behind the curtain pole to make it blackout the light coming through there, but I think I'd need to pattent that idea myself, as I've not seen any such thing on the market as of yet.The other area where light comes through, is on the sides of the curtains, but that could just be due to how my own curtain pole is set up, slightly away from the wall, due to a wooden beam the landlord has fixed the curtain pole to. Possibly, if this weren't the case, my initial issue with light coming through the top would not be a problem either? The length is slightly longer than my curtains by about 1.5", although they are the same size and these blackout curtains are said to be slightly shorter to avoid them sticking out from under the original curtains, but I supposed if I actually cared I could sew them up. I'm just sharing this info in case someone else does care about this. The assembly to the original curtains requires a bit of fiddling/saintly-patience/benzodiazepines, but is do-able.They are not heavy, but not light either, so they drap well. I've had them for over a month now, and have no issues apart from what I have mentioned.

These linings are indeed a pale grey - but that was fine for me as it matched my decor. I've never used linings before but having only been able to find the colour and length of curtains I needed in a fairly light and cheap fabric, I decided that buying decent linings would bulk them up. These linings have done exactly that and really boosted the thickness, privacy factor and overall appearance of the curtains which now no longer look flimsy but full and quite substantial. I didn't attach the linings to the curtains as suggested in the picture (the linings were much heavier and I doubted the curtains would hang right if I did)but if you have a track where the curtain gliders attach to the curtains with the usual hook and that hook has a little loop at the bottom, just attach the linings with the provided curtain rings to that. Then, both curtain and lining are hung from the tracks - I'm sure that's what the little loop is for anyway! Overall, a great way to improve the appearance of cheapo curtains!

Very efficient in blocking light. It has allowed me to sleep much better since I bought it. After I received it, I made a test: in a room at night, I put a lamp next to it (for a few seconds), and confirmed how it blocks the light so well. I compared the Hachette blackout with a similar blackout from Homebase: but the last one lets the light of the lamp pass through. I have already bought 3 sizes of Hachette blackout for different windows at home, and all work superb.Note that, while this product blocks well the sunlight, its efficiency depends on the framework around your window. If there is a small distance between the wall and the curtain, this blackout will of course let some light pass through the sides of the curtain. But this is not a problem of the blackout, as I read in some reviews by impatient people. In these cases, for example, you can use a bit of Velcro, so that the blackout stays close to the wall, and this will block the light.

Really good product, I wasn't sure about ordering after reading some of the reviews, but so glad I took the chance! Total blackout, and no strange smell like some reviewers mention. Nice feel to the fabric. I will say the linings are a little fiddly to attach as I have curtain rings on my curtains but it is possible to attach, and I guess even easier if the do not have the curtain hook type of curtain rail. I actually gathered my curtains to the required width then measured them for the liner and they look great both open and closed. My curtains are a light colour, some say the liner shows through light curtains, I have to say this is not the case. Super fast delivery and very well packaged, also straight out of the pack there was no creasing. I highly recommend these liners if you want total blackout in your room.

I found this product to be everything I wanted - and more. I wanted it purely for the insulation property, however it's the complete, utter and total blackout which is quite remarkable - astonishing...!Ensure the rail has sturdy attachment to the wall, because with these + plus the original flimsy lining + the curtain, there is a degree more weight than I was used to.One thing to note though - I tripped headlong over this aspect, and had to return them for the 'correct' size; the lining measurement provides a flat sheet of material ie you DON'T have to figure out how much extra you need to cover all the curtain folds - that's the point I tripped over...! The curtain has the folds, the lining is a flat sheet - like a bedsheet.Boy does it 'do what it says on the tin'. Thoroughly recommended.

With two large windows in my bedroom, pale coloured blinds and curtains and two street lamps outside on both sides of the windows it'seems not the best situation to be in when you need a darkened room.As you can see from the photograph, the difference between a curtain with and without the lining is quite remarkable. The are a little tricky to put up (or maybe I'm just a bit stupid.) They are thick and heavy, which they need to be so they are able to do the intended job. Due to the weight, they do hang down slightly, a problem sorted by attaching them with more hooks (hooks are supplied but personally I would recommend a few more on each one.)Overall,I would highly encourage anyone to purchase these.

These are one of the best purchases I have ever made. We have a large bay window in our bedroom with a street light directly outside of it which meant that even dark curtains allowed the room to be well lit. So I decided to look for a option that would allow me to keep my current curtains but give me the black out for the light. These were well worth the money!! Super easy to put up you just attach the hooks to the black out and then hook them onto your curtains and your done. I imagine this is easier done when the curtains aren't hung up already but I did so without taking them down and it was just as easy. They work so well I even bought my mother a pair as she was so impressed by them.

I bought these in August. There were a few weeks of great heat. And these trully helped to get the room in chill conditions. Now the winter is almost here and I notice the stop the cold from the window. Specially since my bedroom has 2 big windows. I use it along some dark grey curtains, to have proper curtains in the room. But these are the ones truly preventing the light. If you hang them from above the curtain you will block more light.I recommed watching some youtube videos on how to hang them. It's pretty easy. I already had a bag of hangers so I had enough for the two I bought.

Good thick liners. Bought for our daughter's bedroom to stop it being too bright in the mornings waking her up too early. We've found from experience that it's expensive and tricky to find decent kids bedroom curtains that block enough light - it's easier to just buy basic thin colourful character curtains, and hang a decent liner behind them instead (with the benefit that you can cheaply change curtains as their tastes change!)Very pleased with these, they do the job well, and block pretty much all light from getting through the curtains - would happily recommend them.

Bought these try and reduce the light in my little one's bedroom. His room is west facing so gets the afternoon sun.The blinds were well packaged with good instructions. Ensure you tie one end before you start gathering! They were easy to gather and attach to the curtains and knock out an awful lot of light. I've also noticed by closing the curtains during the afternoon my little one's bedroom isn't anywhere near as hot at bed time so they do well to reflect the heat or the sun. I have some more thin curtains so will be looking to get some more linings soon.

Very happy with this product. We live in a married quarter and the curtains are issued so I didn't want to change them. The alternative I saw was to stick a blind to the window but this seems fiddly each morning to have to remove it.These blackout curtains are just hooked onto the side that faces the window and really do help my son to sleep longer.I also think they have helped in the heat as I keep them closed from lunchtime onwards so my child's room isn't too hot at bedtime. The picture shows one side with the blackout curtain and one side without.

Got these for my east facing bedroom so that during the Summer I'm not woken by the light and heat of the sun at dawn. They are fantastic and have really improved the quality of my sleep. If I were to buy them again I would get a wider lining than I purchased. The one I bought was exactly the width of my windows, which means I have to stretch the linings behind the curtains out exactly, pinning them together at the centre to block out all light - it would definitely be easier with a bit more "give" and overlapping from a wider lining.

These linings are great - do keep the lights from outside out - we have a streetlight opposite and had trouble finding blackout linings that really worked. The only thing I would advise is to have some spare curtain hooks as the hooks supplied, I found, kept slipping but this is not enough for me to reduce the star rating as it was the linings I wanted the company offering hooks with them was not important to me.They actually fit the width of my curtains exactly and just needed to be taken up a few inches in length - not a problem.

These are just what I required for some living room curtains which were light in colour. We get a lot of sun in the afternoon and the curtains I bought looked a different colour when the sun shone through. These bring a true colour to the curtains as they block out the sun. I will have to 'wiggle' them a bit as they are not an exact fit but that is to be expected. I then bought some for dining room and bedroom curtains. I am not sure where they are made but it would be good to know that they were manufactured in the UK. Thanks!

I wasn't sure how to rate these... they were very difficult to hang up! I done it by instructions and yet they were too long and were sticking out underneath the curtains. Eventually I managed to get them up though and they block out light and are excellent for this. There wasn't enough curtain hooks provided either; 10 per curtain and I found this was too little so I'm having to buy more and add them on later as it looks silly otherwise. So difficult and not enough curtain hooks but brilliant for blocking out light!
