This is the sixth pair of these linings that I've purchased and I've been delighted with them. I live on a busy A road in an old early-Victorian property and these linings have made a big difference in terms of keeping the warmth in, light mornings come as a genuine shock and they have helped to muffle heavy traffic noise from the road which starts at about 4.30am. I have doubled glazed sash windows which 'look' right but have the usual failings and I can't recommend these linings enough. With reference to previous reviewers' comments, I have the following thoughts. These are curtain linings so as standard practice, they are 3" shorter than the length stated so make sure that you buy them long enough. If there are no knots on your heading tape, tie the two ends together, gather and hang so that the tape is against your curtains' tape and the hook passes through both. Plastic hooks can work but for my really heavy curtains, metal hooks have worked better. These are heavy linings - they have to be to do their job - so bear that in mind in terms of the strength of the pole/ track that you use. For absolute blackout (and best thermal/ acoustic results) you will need these linings to hang right up against the wall e.g. if your curtain pole has supports that hold it away from the wall then you will get light seepage above as well as draughts and noise. My best results have been with curtains that are on tracks therefore. If you can, buy these linings wider than you need for improved thermal and acoustic results - if you are trying to 'baffle' sound then you need to do just that by having as many folds of fabric there as possible! Hanging these linings at long windows and doors from floor to ceiling has made a huge difference in blocking draughts and keeping rooms warm. When you open the curtains there is a marked variation in the temperature behind and in front of the curtains. Attach these linings to your curtains with a slip stitch along the lengths and they will make your curtains hang better and get better blackout/ thermal/ acoustic results. With regard to the smell, only one set of my linings has smelt. It's an odd biscuity sort of smell which I can disguise with repeated use of a room spray. It seems to be worse when the sun is shining on them so not much of a problem for much of the year in England probably! If you do shift work, need to sleep during the day or beyond 4am in the summer, want to block out traffic noise and draughts then these linings could genuinely transform your life. As with all treated linings, hand wash and dry flat e.g. on top of a rotary clothes line out of the sun. I've machine washed in the past which with care on a hand wash cycle should be fine but stupidly I have allowed the wet treated surfaces to touch whilst drying and then had to peel them away from one another which removed the blackout texture. Leaving them wet in the washing machine can do the same thing so take care.

Ok, so got hung these today, weather is bright but overcast. When I had hung the first one I took a picture. A picture says a thousand words! Wow! Shame I can't post that picture! Hung both now in the lounge! Got them for the lounge as I have cream lined curtains however still can't see the TV when it's daytime due to the brightness. I'm now sat here watching TV on a perfect picture, almost total darkness, it's great! I would recommend if you need total black to not use a curtain rail, as I still have a small amount of light coming through onto the ceiling, but this isn't the products fault it's the curtain pole I'm using. A track would be better as would be flush to the wall.I am going to get these for all other windows now as I am that pleased with them. I wish I had purchased them sooner.

Perfect when you've got curtains you like without blackout lining as they can be fitted to pretty much any set of curtains. It does not come with the hooks to attach them though (for some reason I thought it would), but these are easy to find and really cheap. Blackout works perfectly - our bedroom is facing the road with the street lights right outside it, the only light you can see is where the tape ends right at the top of the curtain (you fit the lining just below it). As for the noise reduction, we didn't notice any difference, but our street is quite quiet anyway. It does keep the heat in very well. Haven't had the chance to test it in the summer yet.Overall very happy with the purchase.

Functional, reasonably easy to fit if you have suitable curtain hangers. I've now bought two lots of these linings. Not particularly pleasing to look at (somewhat grey white) or touch (a soft-coated plastic - somewhere between plastic balloon and suede feel to the touch), but they should hide behind the curtains (I think I should baste stitch them to the curtains (at least at the sides) so that they are completely discretely hidden behind the curtain fabric without fiddle each time I pull them open). Good light blackout (I'm only left with light leak around the sides and top of the window; I need to source a hook/ velcro to tether these closer to the wall at the sides).

I would recommend opening the packet outside as the amount of dust that came out & covered every thing was unbelievable ! I opted to tack them onto the curtains as a permanent fixture. It dose say that you can iron the cloth side, it would take some ironing to get all the creases out. Blackout should be stated in inverted commas as you would need to tape them around the window to completely block out the light, they would not match up to the war office standards. They certainly make a huge difference, I am happy with the purchase. The photo shows one curtain fitted with the liner & the other without.

These are well made from a heavy material, and work well providing the fitting instructions are followed carefully; was able to use the existing curtain hooks and due the the extra weight it would be prudent to have a supply of spare hooks to hand.I feel that separate linings will never be quite as convenient as sewn in linings, bit this product saves the considerable expense of replacing the existing curtains with a lined pair. In either case light will still creep around the curtain edges, therefore for a more complete blackout a separate blind behind the lined curtain should be considered.

Really pleased with these. I bought them to line some light coloured bedroom curtains that let in the early morning sun, making the room really hot, and my neighbour's (not excessively bright) security lights that are in her front garden. They were a perfect fit and and were easily attached to the curtains using curtain hooks. Now our room is cool and dark. I hope that in the winter the room will stay warmer too. My only slight criticism is that they do smell (of cookies, we think!) but after a week of them hanging with the windows open the smell has lessened. Would I buy these again? Yes.

OK... Maybe I should have read all the product details more thoroughly, so me bad, but...The blackouts are advertised as 90" x 54", but they are actually 90" x 51" (In the product information further down the page, it does say "Curtain Linings will always be approx 2-3" smaller in length than the curtain size mentioned)".The actual curtains themselves look fairly good quality, just that they are too short, as they were to be used not as a lining. How about changing the item description to:90" x 51" Thermal Blackout Lining Pair - 3 Pass Insulated (Suitable for 90" x 54" Curtains).

They do the job but they are heavy. You fix them to the back using normal hooks. Will perhaps double the weight of the curtains, so I'm holding back on doing the larger ones to upgrade the rails to something certain to take the weight. They need cutting to size, so plan a large flat area to do that, and take your time. When putting back up they will be much heavier, so plan for that and a means to support them so you are only lifting as little as possible when doing that. Make sure you leave an overlap in the middle to get a good light-tight seal there. About an inch.

Finally, I can get to sleep without the annoying streetlights lighting up my room! These are quite thick hanging, and the rail clips are useful. They are fairly weighty, so don't hang them on the most weak of curtains or they will probably droop after a while. Quality is excellent for the price too. I held an iPhone torch right up to the material and can't see it through which attests to the light blocking quality of the item.My only criticism is they seem a bit longer than expected, and poke out the bottom of my curtains which are supposed to fit this size.

I already had curtain hooks up (as I had already hung my existing, lined, but not dark enough curtains on them) and so it was easy to simply hook these up behind the existing curtains. They certainly block out a lot of light, and are a vast improvement on the window without them. There is little I can do about the seeping above and below the windows, apart from hanging the curtains up much higher and having them hang way lower, but as someone who didn't realise their bedroom faced the rising sun, it has certainly improved the quality of my sleep greatly.

These are great, we were being woken really early with the sun streaming in and these really help to keep our bedroom dark enough to sleep longer. To be truly blackout you would need to use a curtain rail so the curtains are held flush to the wall rather than a curtain pole but this is not the fault of the product. The linings are good and heavy, my curtains were quite heavy anyway so they may not hang as well with very lightweight curtains. I will be buying more and would recommend, very reasonably priced when you compare to high street shops.

Best blackout linings I have tried. They are a funny colour sort of grey or in some lights pale blue.I have very lightweight curtains but they are tightly gathered so I found that attaching them to the curtain hooks made them too full to sit right when open. I solved this by not gathering the liners and attaching them to the curtain header tape on the row below using extra hooks. The excess I trimmed off as the fabric doesn't fray but if I need liners again I will buy the width of the gathered curtain not the ungathered width.

These are great value for money. They don't completely block out the light from my room as light escapes from above, but that's the design of the window rather than the curtains. They make it dark enough in my room that I'm able to sleep during the day which is perfect when I'm working night shifts. Because of the size of them they're quite heavy and so you need quite a few hooks to hang them. I can't remember how many (if any) came with the curtains but I spent a couple of extra pounds on 100 hooks and they did the job!
