I was a bit hesitant to buy these at first after reading reviews about the spin locks and the handle grips, i'll give a full review of my experience and opinions on them, hopefully you'll find this helpful. The product came earlier than expected, however the box they came in was ripped with one of the weights hanging out slightly, luckily none of the weights were missing, this does seem to be a more serious issue though so make sure to take pictures of the package as soon as it arrives before opening it, you may need to show this to the supplier as proof. The weights themselves are all good and even the handles weigh about 1kg themselves, where as my previous handles weighed practically nothing.I have no real complaints at all with the weights, they are smaller than my previous ones also making it easier to lift without them bumping your wrists for doing certain exercises. Now, the spin locks, there have been a few complaints about these being too tight. To sum up how i found them, yes they are tight and difficult to screw on AT FIRST. After screwing them on and off a few times (which is possible) they start to loosen up. With mine i found it easier to screw then onto one handle than the other, so i screwed them on and off a few times then did the same on the other handle. They are currently still quite tight but i'm assuming they'll loosen up more in time. The handles has been another complaint about these, yes they do smell slightly, no its not an issue in my opinion. If you're using these weights properly you'll be smelling worse than the handles anyway and a shower will wash the smell away. If it bothers people so much, wear gloves. The smell will go away in time, i have them in my room and i can't notice it while i'm in there.Overall, there are a couple of issues with this product with the spin locks and the handles, but for the price you cannot really complain. And they could just be used as a spare set of weights if you have you're own handles already which are york. The only serious issue is the packaging and the possibility of weights missing, but like i said just take a picture of the packaging if its ripped and immediately contact the supplier. Hope people find this helpful.

These have been on my list of things to get to a while and now I have gotten round to it, the purchase was definitely worth it!The weights are great quality and well made, they feel like a quality product and completely worth the money. They are ideal for casual use due to the small size allowing you to keep them anywhere and they will also fit in in a gym environment! The weights are also heavy of course, so I would advise caution when storing them on wooden floors but as long as you don't go sliding them about the floor it'l be safe. I would put down a small mat or something however if you have an overly expensive floor or if your going to be throwing them about a bit.The weights do have ablack coating that can come off if you smash the weights together putting them on the bar however it isnt massively noticeable and can be avoided if your careful with the weights. The bar is relatively large allowing you to fit a large number of weights onto it and my image shows the largest weight I could manage to fit on which was plenty for my, and I imagine many others casual use.The collars are made of quite a strong plastic however they are not made of any premium metal. I feel they are fit for purpose however, they hold the weights well and don't seem to slip out of place at all during use. They slide on and off very easily and I can tighten them really well!Overall I think the weights are amazing value for money! They come super well packaged, which was a worry due to the heavy wright, however packaging turned out not to be an issue.Definitely worth the purchase if your looking to build some muscle or just to have some weights for casual / daily use!

I got these through the post a couple of days quicker than the estimate, yay!! All round they are outstanding quality, solid and secure and can definitely handle all the weight that you would want to stick on them in future. The provided wall chart is useful especially if you don't have much experience with weight training it has all important warm up stretches on there which i strongly encourage you to do otherwise its gonna be a sore one in the morning. Some of the exercises pictured show a weight bench but there isn't anything that can't be done with a chair or on the floor. Many people have commented on the plastic spin locks but once you get them you realise that those little guys are well up to the challenge and will handle whatever you throw at them.Value wise they are unbeatable,it is going to cost about the same or more to buy a pack of weights (without the bars) so I've just ordered a second pair of these that will allow me to have one heavier set and one lighter set without having to change the weights so often, that being said don't think these things are too light if you are just starting out, 2 x 10kg bars are pretty damn heavy and for the majority of exercises you will only need one at a time so feel free to load up one of the bars with the weights from the other. Happy lifting :)

I was only looking for a cheap pair of dumbbells to use at home. My budget was £30 because I didn't plan on keeping them long. I wasn't expecting a great deal of quality when I purchased these. However, I was pleasantly surprised.Initially, they seem to be really strong and sturdy, including the locking nut which I heard a lot of people say is weak. My locking nuts fit perfectly and hold the weights in place very securely and reliably. Although, it is made of a brittle plastic so it will probably weaken in the distant future. All the weights are made of cast iron and are very solid. One thing to bear in mind is that the weights make up 17kg. The last 3kg is made up with the bars (1.5kg each). The bars both feel comfortable in the hand and the threads are good quality.I rated this product on my expectations of a £30 dumbbell set. The reason I gave it 5* is that you can't get better quality for this price. A lot of people who rate this set low have obviously got much higher expectations for £30, haha. I definitely recommend this set for anyone who wants to train at home as you can buy more weights to add. Also, the delivery was quick and free.

I've bought York products in the past and I believe they are a trusted and excellent brand. I'm a woman and used to work out with York weights a long time ago and I stopped (life and other things got in the way) and have been missing my dumbbells a lot so I recently purchased more of them (this is my third set now, same ones, love them) and am looking forward to having a gorgeous toned body again. Fat doesn't burn calories but muscle does and very efficiently too. Toning up regularly and having more muscle than fat raises the metabolic rate and you feel so good after a workout too. I highly recommend these dumbbells; they're of a very high quality and will last for many years.Bring back the metal spinlocks for them though please, York. I'm not keen on the plastic ones. They seem very durable but the metal ones are nicer-looking and better, in my opinion. The weights are in perfect condition and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase anything from this company over the coming years. York also include a brilliant and informative workout chart with this dumbbell set which is very helpful. Thank you, York. A lifelong and very happy customer.

This set of dumbells is cheap and good set for beginners. They have plastic spinlocks, and picky people will often state a preference for metal spinlocks, but these plastic ones work just fine for occasional use. They are made in China, like most things, and quality is great for the price.Good points include: well made iron weight plates and textured surface on the bar to aid grip. There is also a small amount of space left on the end of the bars which I think you could fit an additional weight plate.Bad points include: On opening the box, there is an overpowering chemical smell coming from contents. Either the product during manufacture or storage, has been exposed to some very strong chemicals,or plastic used in the packaging has overly strong chemical smell, or the plastic has began to break down chemically. Either way I have had to leave the weights outside the house due to this chemical smell, and will have to wash the weights with something to remove this strong residual odour. The textured grip is made from part of the bar, and thus metal which is a bit rough on the hands, so you may want to purchase some gloves.

Was a bit nervous as some reviews have been very harsh. But it arrived in a tightly packed box which meant the weights hadn't broke or been damaged like others said. Also the handle was very comfortable, people say it stinks of diesel but you can only smell it when you put it right to your nose but after my hands smelt faintly of it, but I also wash them after so no issue really if it bothers you others suggest leaving the handle in soapy water which takes away the smell but I doesn't bother me. The plastic grips worked fine but I have only had it a day but I assume they will loosen over time, this isn't really an issue as you can buy metal ones of Amazin for £3 or just re-tighten.Would highly recommend this product for those starting out as you can purchase larger weights as you get better. Keep in mind though that the handle itself is added on to the 20kg over all weight so you won't get 20kg just in weights you get 17kg in weights and the handles add up to 3kg. A nice added bonus was the larger poster sized guide with 16 workouts you can do with them and some basic warm ups. Would honestly recommend you buy them!

Before i bought these, i read the small handful of 1 star reviews, and it really made me paranoid to order this, because they were acting like they received a plague!however, i was pleasantly surprised to see that it arrived, intact, with all parts, and worked perfectly.I saw people complaining saying that the plastic spinlocks, but mine were completely fine!I'm not sure if they genuinely got a bad product, or were so incompetent that they couldn't screw it on properly. I've ordered weights before, and they came with a metal spinlock, with a rubber ring on one side, and they were far worse than the plastic ones. i'll even go as far as to say it's ideal because it's made of plastic. They don't slip, they go on easily, and they're light, so you don't need to figure out how much weight to remove if you want to compensate. Also, the bars for these weights come with a nice textured plastic handle, making it very easy to grip. Also, i like that it's made from plastic, because living in a cold country, the metal handled ones i used to own, would get so cold you couldn't even use them without heating them up first!

I bought this set in an attempt to increase my strength as an alternative to purchasing a gym membership and they have been fantastic. Firstly, the fact that the 10kg on each dumbbell is divided into six disks is very useful as it allows you to customize the weight you are lifting by removing a couple of disks on the exercises that require lower weights. The build quality of the disks and bars is excellent and I have no doubt that they will last a very long time. The plastic grip on the bar is very easy on your hands - other bars without this grip that I have tried have caused blistering which is not a problem I have experienced with this set, even after intensive use.The plastic collars are adequate - they are secure and don't come undone.Just to let you know, I have weighed this set on my scales and each dumbbell does weigh almost exactly 10kg.Overall, these are definitely the best value weights on the market. I would thoroughly recommend them for anyone looking to increase their strength. Great quality weights set.If you end up finding the weight to easy then I recommend purchasing the

I wanted 30kg of weights as 20kg, well you need more than that. I bought this set together with the extra York 4 x 2.5kg set, advertised elsewhere here on Amazon. There is a second York 20kg option, the difference being a carry case, knurled steel instead of plastic handgrip, and steel instead of plastic collars, for a few quid more. It turns out the shipping box is well solid, more than enough for storage or transport. The plastic grip is thicker that the steel one, which I think is more comfy, with and without gloves. The plastic collars seem quite good, as they don't come loose as the steel ones did on my old set, certainly strong enough. All up I'm well pleased. The extra 10kg of weights go on the bars no problem, you don't really need a longer bar than the 14" ones here, don't know why you would want a 16" or 18" bar. Also comes with a large workout chart which I only took a glance at, it did seem comprehensive though.Had a couple of days off work so ordered for next day delivery. Ordered in the afternoon and arrived next morn. Please also see my uploaded photos.

These are great weights. This set contains:4x 2.5kg4x 1.25kg4x 0.5kg2x 14" bar4x plastic spinlocks1x York exercise chartThis is everything you need to get started, with plenty of combinations of weights. Some reviewers found the grips uncomfortable and occasionally I have had a similar issue but after using them for awhile my hands have become used to the texture and I find them very comfortable now.I did have my reservations regarding the plastic spinlock collars as most dumbbell sets include metal, however these are also a good feature as there is no rattle and they haven't come loose while using them (just be sure to tighten them whenever you do use them). The exercise sheet is also a nice bonus with 16 exercises,an explanation of each one, what part of your body the exercise primarily uses. The sheet also explains good technique how to design an effective workout, and get the most out of your workout, as well as some exercise guidelines.Overall I'm extremely happy with my purchase and expect this set to last a very long time.

Hey guys. After reading loads of reviews on this product I decided to buy it. Now that it has arrived and I have used these weights I can honestly say you will not be disappointed as they are just brilliant and for this price wow. I had read a few reviews saying that there is a bad smell, honestly some people are just so idiotic. The smell which is not bad is a new product smell from the factory, honestly what do you want it to smell like. It is like anything you buy new, it has it's own distinct new smell lol. As for the grip marking's they are ok and not sharp whatsoever, humans again doing what we do best, moaning again about nothing. The spinlock screws are also fine and don't work lose as some have mentioned, just make sure everything is snug with the weights then screw the locks on and your ready to go. The case they come in is a good and strong and is a bonus for moving or storing when not in use. All in all I am very pleased with this product and I will be adding more weight to this setup.

I was looking for a set of dumbbells to use at home, and since my knowledge of fitness equipment is pretty limited, I went with a name brand that I already knew. These dumbbells are fantastic quality for the price, and just what I needed. The fact that I can add or remove plates means that as I (hopefully) build up my strength, I can add further 5kg plates as and when. The plates are cast iron, well machined and heavy. I'm sure the paint will chip eventually, and perhaps some of the embossing could have better definition, but ultimately what you're looking for is evenly distributed weights that won't break. These do the job.One star has to be deducted for the plastic collars, however. These are adequate I suppose, but they do tend to loosen off a little during use. If you aren't paying enough attention, this could become an issue, even dangerous. Better quality collars are a must (I think York sell metal collars separately which I'll have to investigate).

When I started weight training, I ended up buying two sets of these dumbbells. For the first couple of months, they were great. However, as the amount of weight increased (20-25kg per dumbbell), the flaws in the rubber handle/inner plate stops became apparent, and started to split and 'crumple' due to the weight (this was for Bench Flys, alternate dumbbell curls and dumbbell rows). Also, because the rubber is moving ever inwards, there was/is less room for your hand to grip, making the dumbbells uncomforatble to grip..If you intend to use this set with just the weights supplied, I am sure they’ll be absolutely fine, but if you intend to add extra weight as you progress,I strongly suggest buying metal only dumbbells for longevity, and if need be, buy weight training gloves.I have given them 4 stars because they are good for what they are, and would be perfect for those who only use light weight. I have had no issues with the non-metal collars, too.

I ordered this set on my partner's Amazon Prime account and they arrived the afternoon of the next day. Some people have said that their weights arrived in poor condition because that can happen when you transport iron weights in a cardboard box, but mine arrived in decent shape. Some reviewers also said their weights looked old, rusty, scuffed, and missing spinlocks. Mine look brand new and were wrapped in plastic bags with everything included.I first bought York weights 10 or 15 years ago when they had metal grips and spinlocks. Since then they've been replaced with plastic grips and spinlocks which I thought must be to save money at the expense of quality.I was wrong and I agree with the reviewers who say it's an improvement. If they don't last well over time I'll edit this review, but they look sturdy. I was happy with York weights when I used them years ago and I'm happy with them now.
