I was an avid collector and player back in the 70s when Subbuteo reigned supreme as the game of choice for football-mad teenagers. It's good to see the game getting a significant relaunch with some real improvements over the original. I was given one of the new sets and when my own teenage son's around it sees plenty of use.The bendy players are finely detailed and are unlikely to require a handy tube of polystyrene cement to be kept at hand. Some have commented that the goals are problematic and it's true that it can be tricky to attach the net, but on the plus side there is some flex in the plastic used which again makes hard-to-fix breakages less likely. My pitch also arrived with some creases that were hard to shift.Although the instructions forbid the use of an iron, I found that by using a gentle heat setting and ironing on the reverse I could return the pitch to a pristine state. We use it spread out on a board in preference to my original cloth pitch. It's never going to "pill" like a cotton pitch and it keeps its shape very well.In short, I can recommend the new sets to all those who might have been put off by some of the reviews here. The game hasn't got any easier but it's still a source of uncomplicated pleasure.

Grandson very happy with this as an 11th birthday present - also bought the penalty shoot-out set and other family members gave him "his" team players. All-in-all it is a good set and can be added to as you wish over time.Ideally you need to fix the cloth pitch to a board - but it only needs to be reasonably rigid.not an expensive sheet of marine ply! Worth enquiring about offcuts if you have a friendly local timber merchant. You can iron the pitch to get the creases out - put an old cotton teatowel or muslin on it to protect it from direct heat and use a steam iron.If you do not have a steam iron simply damp the teatowel first and iron over that.

Bought this for My son for his 10th birthday, he loves it, but a word of warning shop around for the best deal. I got this from a well known supermarket, priced at £20, £20 less than in the local department store, when I got to the checkout it was £14 - "every little helps" as they say. I think £20 or less is about right for a pitch, two teams, two goals and a ball, I cerainly don't know where the Next Directory get the balls to justify £45 for this very basic set.

My two sons used to love this game! That was back in the day before all these new fangled technical 'widgets' came to the fore! We purchased a new one for the younger generation but I don't know if they like it or how much they have used it. In our family it has been the 'older' generations who have still been enjoying the game. I think the younger ones prefer i pads, etc. which is a pity. The game itself was fine!

great delivery time, grandson loves this game but was disappointed when he took out one of the players his legs were snapped off the base so was unable to be used, grandson improvised and made it part of his game with an 'injured' player on the bench. some of the legs are flimsy so care to be taken when getting them out of the box. would have given 5 stars if there were no 'injured' players when it arrived.

couldn't believe it when I stumbled across it, bought it to play with the kids, they love it and it took me back to my childhood again. one thing I remember about the old subbuteo was how delicate the figures were but no need to worry about that now the figures are more durable and easier to control. A great distraction from video games aswell, hopefully the comeback is on for subbuteo

For all the Grampas and Dads ( maybe Grandmas and Mums too!) struggling with getting a flat pitch for Subbuteo, Ive always found it best to have a piece of hardboard cut to pitch size. Stick the pitch onto the rough side and smooooooooth it out. Eureka! It worked in the 70s/ 80S with my son and now in the 2000s with my grandsons! What a great game.Andy B

Bought it as soon as i found out this is available. Was a big fun when i was a kid and found out that my 10 year old son loves to play with his friendsSmall drawback is that only 1 ball is included and you need to buy a new set of balls at a relatively expensive price if you loose oneOverall a great game, which allows your kid to interact with friends

My 10 year old son was happy with this and has enjoyed playing with it. The pitch is OK but benefits from being held down on a hard flat surface, which is not that easy to arrange. It takes a bit of practice but is good fun. Although it helps to have someone else to play against, my son finds it easy to play against himself.

I bought this for my 8 year old god son. Absolutely football mad and loves it. We had to sit down and explain the rules to him as he lacks the concentration to read it through himself. But once he knew what he was doing it was hours of fun. Refreshing to not have him stuck in front of the games console!

I did own this game many years ago and enjoyed playing it but have purchased this one to aid me in training people to become football referees and also for inservice training. It enables me to show and discuss relevant points of law and a referees postion on the field of play for different scenarios.

I am loving the new Subbuteo, brings back lots of memories from my not too distant past! No more super glue required either which is simply fantastic and really liking the detail on the figures. Will be interesting to see if there will be more Premiership or International teams available soon.

I played my first game for 40 years on Christmas Day v my nephew. I won 1-0 with the winner 16 seconds from the final whistle. A typical Subbuteo goal. A free kick just inside his half and I picked out my striker who deflected into the bottom right hand corner. Cue for mass celebrations!

I ordered this for my 8 year old grandson's birthday, it arrived the day before which I was so pleased about, I haven't seen the game yet as it went direct to my daughter's house, but the remarks back from my grandson is, its brill nannar, what more can I say, one happy little boy,

I have just bought the new Subbuteo for Hubby from the children as a Father's Day present - I can't wait he will love it!! I think the children will too though so he might not get a look in! I like the look of the new teams too so might have to get one or two of those as well.
