A life-long Canon user, after months of panicked deliberation, I recently switched to Sony; buying an AR7ii for still and film duties at my agency. At first, we thought we'd be fighting with the "sony look" (which can be described as "clinical") but after the first two shoots we were giddy over the quality of this cam and lens. The focus falls off so beautifully and gradually that even in-cam with no LUT applied (and …my awesome lighting of course), our interviews and food stills already looked close to final. The F4 24-70mm should be the first choice for people like us who shoot daily, and so far it's been a relief and a delight to be able to carry just one standard lens that produces gorgeous images, instead of carrying several primes (excluding the lovely canon L of similar length).I did compare with the canon L and metabones and also with the amazing G-Master but for price and high turnaround production, the very slight difference in quality relative to the G-Master wasn't quite worth it this time around. At over £a-lot-more, the G-master is likely for people with money and muscles (it's heavy) who produce massive ads and require perfectly round bokeh for the romantic back-lit climax In a rom com.Read full review...

I've had this lens for about 3 months now. Right from the start it suited my purposes well. A very good walk about lens which covers my most used range 24-70.Its sharp!Very sharp!Centre is superb throughout the range, its a zoom so one has to expect some fall out toward the edge and corners, which in my opinion is acceptable. Not so great wide open, 4.5 starts to improve noticeably, 5.6 is my optimum for what I do, 8 slightly better again. I have found it to be very good around the 35mm, 50mm and approx 68mm. That said, 24 to 28 does a good job on my architectural shots, no complaints!Slow at f4 but, I don't do much low light stuff and if I do I crank the ISO up, deal with any noise in PS/LR and shrink the file slightly, job done, perfectly acceptable.Downsides, few. Expensive! Build quality ok, alloy outside plastics inside, don't like plastic!Bulky, but not necessarily heavy.Close to hitting the 5* but, I think for the money I would expect slightly better from a lens with the name Zeiss on it.Good all round lens. If you're getting into Sony full frame, I would say go for this lens as a starter, you are unlikely to be disappointed.

The 24-70mm f/4 CZ Sony FE lens has a poor reputation, and after acquiring this, I understand why. Many people think it is very unsharp in the outer field. In fact, it has strong field curvature especially at 24-28mm, so if you focus on a distant subject at f/4 and 24mm the corners of the image will be focused around 2-3 feet. Even at longer lengths this issue is present. On three-dimensional subjects it rarely matters and one effect is that with typical landscapes, focused on the distance and with the lens set around f/8 to f/11, the foreground is actually sharper than it would be without this curvature of the focus plane. Focusing is fast and silent and the lens is a reasonable size; the centre of the image is very sharp across the full zoom range at f/4.It lacks the excellence of a design like the Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 which we use on MFT, but few lenses for full frame DSLRs even approach the quality of that one. Overall, a good investment at the price, which included VAT for which I am registered. A full price non-refurb would still be a good buy as your main everyday lens on a Sony A7 series body.Read full review...

Despite some complaints on the DP Review forums, I've found this to be an excellent lens for use on the Sony A7II camera. Its well built, not too large / heavy and IQ in the centre and mid range focal lengths is excellent wide open - it can be a little soft at the wide end but if you close down the aperture a bit this sharpens up nicely. Yes, for this price it would have been nice if it was f2.8 and I occasionally miss that extra stop but it would also have been a significantly larger heavier lens. The Amazon price is a good one, delivery was fast and I've bought multiple lenses off Amazon over the last few years with no problems. Importantly, if you buy from Amazon UK direct (and not a reseller),the receipts are valid for cash back offers in the UK as they are genuine UK stock - Sony UK run these offers at least a couple of time a year so always check the website for details - I got a 100 cash back from Sony when I bought this lens.

You can really go down the rabbit hole when reading reviews of this lens. Some love it, others despise it. The truth, as always, lies somewhere in the middle. This is a fantastic lens that can deliver fantastic results - if you use it right. It's tack sharp in the centre throughout the entire range, but the corners are definitely weaker. In fact, they never really improve throughout the range. That being said, how often do you care what's in the corners? It's compact, lightweight, super durable, optically-stabilised and quick to autofocus. That's pretty much all anyone needs to say. Is it worth the £800 new? I'd say no, because the 24-105 is superior and not that much more expensive. Is it worth £500 used? 100% yes.

I bought this a few weeks ago with my new A7 II. I have sent back the first copy because the sides on 24mm were really bad. This second copy is better, but it is still far from perfect. I have tested it and over 30mm everything is super sharp, and even at 24mm stopped down is useable. So I decided to keep it, because I will get the 16-35 as well, and that will cover the weak 24mm part. So apart from this it is a really good lens, really sharp and lots of detail. I recommend it! And if you are a street/portrait/family photographer, you won't even notice this problem, it will be a perfect lens.I like the colours it produces, and the built is really high quality as well.

Decided to go for this lens in spite of reading bad reviews concerning out of focus edges and vignetting and am now very glad I did. I usually shoot at around f5.6-f8 and at these apertures the images are very sharp edge to edge. There is also no sign of vignetting although as I usually shoot jpeg files I would expect that the camera is applying automatic corrections ( as nearly all cameras do these days). I have previously used a Canon 24-105mm f4 lens and would rate the Sony as being at least as good (although I so miss the extra length at the telephoto end). All in all I would recommend this lens.

After using this lens for a few times, I find it's quality is amazing, with good contrast and smooth to use zooming operation also takes stunning photos . It is also light and not too large to carry as it's my reason to buy this good Zeiss lens. But there are compromise that distortion contribute to the edges of the frame from 24mm and colourisation is much more exaggerate. I have used Canon 24-70 f4 USM, as it simply oozes quality to beat this Zeiss in terms of clarity and quality if I have to choose. Overall I'm happy with it and will keep it because it's a Zeiss.

When I got this lens, I already had a 55mm which was very sharp. However, I now feel like that lens is redundant. The image quality with this is outstanding and silk smooth. The built in stabiliser helps with lower shutter speed and filming. It's even the same size as the 55mm, which means it's not too cumbersome to carry around and it just feels great to work with. The auto focus is really good. It's fast. A little bit harder to track in lower light but that is expected.I highly recommend this for anyone who has a SonyA7s. You will not need another lens.

Its a seller's market for the full frame E mount lenses - this is the only current choice if you want wider than 28mm, which as a landscape photographer I do! In general the lens performs well, but it does have a very large amount of in-camera correction which saps its resolution somewhat on the A7r. It makes a quite nice combination with the A7r and does manage to take really nice portrait shots. It has optical stabilisation which sets it apart from anything you can mount on the camera via an adapter.

I bought this lens very recently to pair with a new A7RII bought at the same time. I got them to reduce weight and enable me to carry around absolutely top quality kit when I don't want to be weighed down with other DSLR equipment. Combined with my FE 55 F1.8 ZA this is perfect combo for my needs and I can already see this will fast becoming my 'go to' kit for street, landscape and general photography.

I bought this lens to complement my new camera, a Sony A7r ii. It was important that I produced great photos the first time I used my new camera and wow, was I pleased. Amazing quality fron a great Sony pairing and I know I will get endless endless enjoyment from this lens through its great build and top top quality. Do yourself a huge favour and purchase one as soon as you can you will not regret it.

27.11.2016

I bought this as part of a light weight solution for my outdoor photography, I cover some miles and need high quality but at a lighter weight. This along with the A7ii body has more than achieved this. Initially this was for test shooting and site surveying, it has now become the main camera for the shoot saving me a lot of back ache! Each opportunity it gets it shines.

10.3.2015

It is an OK lens. I think the distortion is a little high and I don't like the focus by wire. It is pretty sharp and chromatic aberration is OK. I have so many Zeiss ZF lenses and this lens has a lot to live up to. Slightly disappointed it is not f2.8 even if the price is a lot more, but the OSS works well. I have the A7s and the A7ii and it works well with both

Having upgraded an A6000 + sony 16-70 f4 zeiss for an A7ii and the sony 24-70 f4 zeiss and having read numerous reviews beforehand, I was slightly concerned as to whether the 24-70 would at least equal the 16-70 in performance. But I should not have been concerned for the 24-70 surpasses my expectations and is the perfect companion for the A7ii.
