Basically this is a must buy for a travelling angler. The product is an Ugly Stik which speeks volumes for reliability toughness and value. It's superbly made and fits perfectly in my hand luggage. I'd use it for spinning and bait fishing for game, sea and coarse. It has great lined rings that should last a lifetime of travelling fishing ie holiday work and has a lovely through action which will be very forgiving yet deceptively strong to take on bigger fish. It fits perfectly under my forearm for one handed casting but can be easly further stabilised with your other hand and be perfectly fine for a child or teenager. It comes with a rod tube, a rod bag inside the rod tube,2 endcaps and two foam spacers for protection inside the tube. One end cap has a carry loop so the rod tube can be hung on a peg.One tip, for the rod usage, is to lightly rub an (unlit!), candle around the male spigots to coat them with a layer of wax. This vastly reduces wear and give a much more reliable joint. Not too impressed with the plastic reel seat and American reviewers have said that this it's only downside on reliability, but they love the rod so much that they forgive it this minor niggle and even suggest just using some plastic wire ties to bolster it up if it fails, or looks like failing.I had to cut down the rod tube by about 2.5 cm to get it to fit in my hand luggage but it hasn't been an issue in that the rod and the foam protective end caps fit perfectly in the shorter length. When I next take it on holiday I will update this review with feedback on its actual performance and adjust its star rating if I need to.Just based on my initial findings and also ownership of 2 other Stiks I'm giving it a 4 stars.5 would have been given if they had supplied it with a better/alloy/metal reel seat.NEW FEEDBACK: SMASHED IT TO BITS ON A 120LB WHITE TIP SHARK BUT WHAT A ROD HAVING CAUGHT A 60LB STING RAY AND 80LB WHITE TIP EARLIER THAT DAY - ITS NOT A SHARK FISHING ROD BUT SHARK WERE BITING...

Absolutely brilliant budget travel rod! I bought the Ugly Stik 4 piece travel rod (6’6”) for a trip in March 2020. Needed something to get through an airport in my backpack & this is perfect. Lovely finish to it & feels/ looks top quality for £30. Seems well balanced & paired with my Penn Battle 3 (4000) I’m looking forward to a spot of sea fishing off the rocks. Braid shouldn’t be an issue-20lb Spider braid on my Penn. It feels indestructible & all 4 sections fit together perfectly-just use a 90 degree twist to house the section solidly. It packs to 57cm so is super easy to transport. It does feel a tiny bit heavy but fine for a few hours spinning.Mine came in a plastic case-slightly flimsy but it arrived fine via UK post so I guess it’ll stand up to most things. It has a nifty roll type pouch included that house’s all 4 rod sections individually & then rolls & ties. Feels way better than other rods in its class that I’ve owned. Can’t comment on the cast as yet but I’d say it has a medium/ heavy action (defo not light). Some reviews state that people don’t think it’s particularly straight-mine is totally fine-straight as you get on any cheaper rod. Id say the rod should be fine for most disciplines. If you’re after a solid rod to travel lightly & don’t want to spend a fortune it’s a winner in my opinion.Read full review...

I have the 2 piece as well but wanted this 4 piece to put in my rucksack. As expected its strong, sturdy and is perfect for spinning. The tube packaging is sadly throwaway (would have loved something to protect it that's to size). The sleeve is good though, with separate compartments for each piece. One bug bear I've never understood is why the first eyelet is unproportionately big in comparison to the rest. Sure there's a pro fishing reason for it to be somewhat bigger, but this is comically bigger than the rest which means that it doesn't fit back into the tubing properly and when you roll the sleeve it sticks out like a sore thumb and will likely snap or break at some point - I had to wrap infoam to protect it in my rucksack so lost the space I was trying to save.I'd still highly recommend it as there aren't many at this quality and size, with snug and solid connection at each section, so would just like a bit more thought into the primary use of being a travel rod (next time I might take my pen rod as I'd rather trade the strength for slimline)

Shakespeare has been around a long time. They equipment isn't as pretty as some of the other brand names out there. But it is more robust, And you will find you are getting good value for your money. This ugly stick.. hmmm yeah true its ugly. But try it. It will stand against any of the bigger names out there. Ugly stick is tuff.. dependable.. Affordable.. witch is what is really important. Any rod you can catch fish with. The fish are not bothered if your using sage, shimano or this ugly stick.. Most breakages happen off the water. There are several ways to view it when you break a rod.. That sage cost me £600 or the ugly stick.. I only give £25/£30 for it.. I'll get another one.If you fish the uk,& a lot of sea fishing in the atlantic.. this little ugly stick fits in your case no worries. Its easy throw airports.. It will handle skipjack, wahoo, snapper, grouper, mullet, barracuda, parrotfish these are all in its class. Its defiantly the ideal holiday rod.Read full review...

Bought this 4 piece travel rod after reading the good reviews.I used to own a ugly stik rod years ago in my youth, and remember it did the job very well. This rod looks the part and should fit its purpose well.. I have paired it with a small size 100 reel loaded with 10ib braid, and the balance appears very good.. I am now looking forward to catching small Bonito from shore in Rhodes Greece in September using small lures and rubber weighted eels upto 20g max.I only gave 4 stars because the tube the rod comes in is very flimsy and not suitable in my view for plane travel. I have even tried fitting the rod in several sizes of solid rod tubeing. but because of the large sized first ring,I am struggleing to find anything suitable. This to me is very disappointing this rod being made for traveling. I remember my last ugly stik comeing with its own solid case. Come on Shakespeare! the rods great, how about something to keep it safe in.

I used this rod with a shimano moocher center pin reel and 40lb braid. I have had many fish on this combo so I decided to see if it would handle a tarpon. I hooked a 170lb tarpon at 7 mile bridge in the Florida Keys, it took a large crab, the take was gentle but when I set the hook the fish lept 8ft in the air, then game on. With a reel with no drag and a ''trout rod'' I put the fish under as much pressure as I could. It took about 1hour 45minutes to bring the fish to the boat and touch the leader...............4 times, the fish went all around the bridge stucture and I had a great captain who placed the boat in just the right positions. After the forth time of grabbing the leader to try to unhook the fish the rod exploded!!!!it could not take any more. I have since got another one as I always have it with me, next up for it are the rooster fish in PanamaRead full review...

This is the 6'6" travel rod - (not 6'9" as listed) - I haven't had a chance to try it out yet but I've added some photos to show the actual item since the main picture on the Amazon listing is of a different rod. First impressions; it's a budget rod with a black foam handle and slightly flimsy feeling light plastic reel seat, once the reel is in it sits snugly enough. It gives the same feeling of sturdy construction I know from my other Ugly Stik rods and should be good in use. The compact size and light weight when packed down means it would fit easily in most rucksacks or suitcases. For £28 I'm very happy with it - I'll be out to give it a try out soon.

I bought the rod as a Christmas present for myself. I haven't used it yet, I'm planning to when the weather warms up and will use it for spinning and light lures. It feels like a great four piece rod, feels and looks like its made with high quality, and though its light, it also feels strong. I guess that it could easily handle catching big perch, to medium size pike. I'm really looking forward to using it. Its also very small and portable when taken apart, and it comes in a nice rod bag. Would be very easy to fit in a suitcase or rucksack, and take on holiday, or keep in the boot of your car.

caught small yellowtail tuna with this rod, so its a pretty strong rod. Its lightweight. not really straight but gets the job done. awesome rod for the price and 4 pcs , easy to carry in a bag. Again ,able to take 40 lbs braided line and small tuna of 8 - 10 kg, in the boat in a matter of a few minutes not hours . but of course this rod was not design to take 40 lbs braided and tuna. So very impressive and it won my respect.

Bought this for a Xmas present, was looking for a wand for my ten year old son and received lots of advice from family they all said ugly stik, also on fishing advice websites the ugly stik got really good reviews super and light for a young boy and can be used for different fish. Looks really good quality and quite trendy if you can call a fishing rod that.

Have a ten foot Ugly Stick which has always been a perfect spinning rod. However the ghillie suggested downsizing for boat fishing and recommended an 8ft. So am trying it out and I don't think there is a better rod on the market in respect of price and performance.

I took this rod to lanzarotti and caught every day,it will sling out weights way above its spec, and is reactive enough to land the tidlers and coped with a 6lb bass pulled up the rocks. the only traval rod your need

Excellent bit of kit. Really worth the money. Unbeatable on price and quality. Will cast far more than the recommended weight. Must have for any traveling fisherman.
