I relied on this filter on a recent walking trip to Skye, and it did not let me down. I mainly used it with two short sections of silicon tubing as this allowed me to drink from burns without the fiddle of squeezing the bag or having to bend over too far (useful if you are carrying 12kg on your back with old knees. When I needed to fill a bottle I tended to use the syringe, which is fiddly but it saved having to lug the bag as well.Very handy and I seem to be alive still! Importantly, I have not picked up any intestinal worms or parasites (a risk from the highland deer). I generally drank from flowing streams (I think I would trust this to drink from a puddle, but I have not needed to so far, there is plenty of water in Scotland!) and it worked very well. As others have noted, you need to suck like drinking a think milkshake and there is generally some air from the filter in the water, but it works very well. I always set off with 500ml of water 'just in case', but I never needed it. I kept this in my pocket (just make sure you use the capon the end to keep it clean and stop any dribbles). This tiny little filter meant I could keep myself well hydrated in the warmth without carrying kilos of water.I had a 'cheap' ebay pump (which cost about the same as this) but the water is much clearer coming from this Sawyer filter and was a bit murky from the ebay one. I am not confident enough to trust in the cheap one now that I have seen the difference. Required for wild camping, avoiding need to carry water for several days away from mains supplies, where streams are the only source.I still choose to boil water whenever possible. There are many video reviews which seem to back up the manufacturer's claims on efficiency of mini to clean up the nasties that can lurk even in fast flowing mountain streams, let alone in dirty suspect low level streams. It is important to note, it cannot remove chemical pollutants.I also carry water purification tablets as a back up but dislike the taste and will also add some activated charcoal to pack. Belt and braces approach.Back washing the filter is important if water flow is to be maintained so carry thesyringe included in the pack Dirty water will eventually clog filter and reduce flow to a trickle.Certain bottled water containers will fit direct onto the filter and are easier to fill from streams than the included collapsible water bag. It will also connect direct to camel back hydration tubes, but I prefer to keep these for fresh drinking water and use bottles for holding collected water.

Did not fit any water bottle I had around the house. Used a 32oz isopropyl alcohol bottle strapped to the wall to gravity feed water through it into a jug because the first water out of it tasted horrible!! 10 gallons later the water tastes half as bad, while from standard good neighborhood tap water it clogged up to a drip-drip, shockingly enough though, one reverse plunging and it was back to full stream in under a minute. I have high hopes for this renewable product extending the life of my PUR 2-stage water filters, once the horrible taste is washed away. Should be another 40 gallons I'd guess before my tap water, which tastes good to begin with tastes clean after this filter is through with it.Can't wait for the apocalypse though,100,000 gallon life span, I'll be the one selling stream water for $10 per gallon. See you there. Bring your wallet! No singles...Find more product reviews at: www.listprice.us

I gave this product 5 stars because of its ease of use and compact size. Although purification drops are lighter to carry I think this filter is worth taking back country trips instead. I like that I don't have to wait to drink the water like I have to with drops and that I can drink directly from the water source with the handy straw attachment. I consider this to be a late spring to early fall means of making drinking water safe because you cannot allow this filter to be exposed to freezing temps. I've already ruined one by leaving my pack in the car overnight after returning home from a long trip. My advise keep this in your warm weather loadout only.Overall I think this is a great product every backpacker and prepper should have in their gear collection.

Took this little filter on an 11 mile hike with a single water bottle. At the beginning of the trip, we ran into a parched hiker and ended up giving half of our water to him. Undeterred, we continued our hike and found creeks where we filled our water canteen three times before finishing. Water tasted fresh, clean and cool. We were hydrated throughout and traveled much lighter had we decided to bring more water ourselves. Overall, a wonderful weight saving, and life saving product. Everyone should have one of these in their emergency kit. Just amazing, especially for the price.

Excellent filter for the price and extremely small and lightweight. I got this for my bugout bag. It is an excellent product that can be used in a LOT of situations. For the price, you could use this from anything ranging from survival, to hiking, to simply taking a bicycle on a long trip and minimizing the amount of water you need to take with you. This thing is simple to use and the fact that you can hook it up to nearly any type of water/soda bottle is a major plus. Here is a short product review I did for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBLrDutg3WY

As far as I can tell, this product works well, and it is small and light as expected. However, the pouch supplied with it broke within a week of first use - it started leaking near the seal at the top. This really isn't good enough for a product that might be relied on for health and safety - fortunately we were only in Wales!PS - I wrote to Sawyer after posting this review, and was immediately sent a replacement pouch, so am happier that this must have been a rare quality control instance - increased to five stars!

This is a must for any hiking trip. I have used it for many multi day hikes in the UK. Very easy to use, it will save you the hassle of carrying water around with you. When you come to a lake or stream, simply fill up the water battle and screw the filter and drink the water, you can also use your own water bottle and use the filter as a straw. The filter is very light weight, robustly designed. As mentioned I have used it many times and had no problems, would highly recommend.

LOVE IT…I take this thing wade fishing all day and overnight as my only source of water without a second thought. I used it all last year and the flow is still great. I keep the cleaning kit in my desk and just clean it real good and let it dry out between trips. The fact that you can connect it to the bag or any water bottle is wonderful. I had a couple of Lifestraws and I could get them to last a year without getting clogged up…no problems with the Sawyer!

This little product is spectacularly simple to use. It connects to the top of a standard plastic water bottle or the included rollable water pouches. Comes with everything you need to connect it to a Camel back style water reservoir, though i never did more than hook it up once I realized I only needed a water bottle. Its so tiny you can carry it in your pocket. Very little pressure is needed to get water through it too, like drinking a milkshake.

A great, compact item which will come in handy on back country trips! Filters out everything including that nasty Cryptosporidium! It can even be installed in line with a hydration bladder with the additional adapter kit (not included) Not to mention this thing can filter up to 100,000 gallons!! Comes with everything needed to use/maintain the unit including a back flush syringe to use when finished to keep the filter clean!

Has been cleverly thought through, small and has screw cap to allow it to attach to bottles, can squeeze out water from pouch provided, can be used without needing to carry water using straw provided, has clear instructions. Have not seen a better option for travelling. Haven't been away yet so impossible to comment on efficacy but seems like a well made and proper professional item not a cheap knock off.

This little piece of kit is the perfect sized water filter for your camelback and wild stream camping for a belt and braces approach I add sterilising tab too but that just the medic in me being extra careful. ...of course you can rolling boil too if you like and have time but not necessary or easy on the move, whereas this filter allow you to dip sip and go. I bought two.

I used this equipment for the first time a couple of days ago in Derbyshire, where the water is brown due to the peat in the ground I also used purification tablets as a safety measure and then drunk it ,the water tasted very nice and I also use the same water for cooking there was no stomach issues. I will always have the sawyer in my backpack ..
