We have the Canon LEGRIA HF G25 camcorder that has a very large lens and an associated detector completely exposed at the front. The recommended filter for protecting the lens assembly is this 58mm Canon Protect filter, that offers nothing optically like a polarizer or uV filter, it simply tries to have no effect at all on the light passing through it. It offers decent protection from the likes of fingers, branches, dust and light rain, that otherwise would end up on the prime lens and it's optical coating. So as well as protecting, it maintains perfect colour balance with no effect on exposure, and its 'super spectra coating' prevents harmful light reflections.Unlike linear polarizers which may interfere with a dSLR's autofocus, this filter won't affect focusing either. As would be expected for the official Canon filter, the filter is well made from glass and metal, and it screwed onto the camcorder lens very easily, making no difference at all to the view (no shadows at wide angle). My Canon lens cap fits on perfectly on top of it as well. Given the high price of the camcorder, this lens protection filter is £22 well spent, so 5*. Although I could find nothing on the box regarding the filter type, the filter is clearly identified on the filter's metal rim. My protect filter arrived promptly direct from Amazon and was clearly the genuine Canon product. Being glass, the protector filter can shatter but hopefully it'll take the hit rather the prime lens.

I recently bought my second Reflex. And as for the first one, the 1st "option" I bought for it was a protect filter. The cap on the lens is great, but it is not attached to the camera or the lens. Therefore, it's easy to loose. More over, that's always the bit you forget to remove before shooting, and then your photo opportunity is gone.So this protect filter is a kind of transparent cap for the lens. It takes the shock, the marks, the dirt, the finger print, and your lens stay clean. From time to time, I put the protect filter in the dish washer to clean it, and if it breaks, it's only few £ to replace. Much less than replacing the lens itself.Definitely a must have.

It is a Canon Filter - what else do you need to know???Horribly expensive - as ever, thanks a bunch Canon!, and I am a real mug for purchasing it. But it is a Canon Filter - thus, I had no other true and realistic choice.I have tried all the other filter manufacturers, and Hoya in particular are very good indeed. But Hoya is not Canon.Superb clarity, and very easy to fit and remove - and it is a Canon Filter!Highest recommendation.

Very good optical quality, as you would expect from Canon. I can't see any difference in the image quality with this fitted to either a 24-105 f/4L or the 70-200 f/2.8L ii lenses. I have cleaned them several times with lenspens and have not yet managed to scratch them.I would recommend these with not hesitation to protect the primary element your expensive lens.

Bought this as a protective filter for my lens. You can get cheaper, but I felt more comfortable putting canon brand in front of my canon lens. Arrived promptly, has good quality threads and a reassuring feel and weight to it - in fact, I’ve also now bought one for my other lens!

Does exactly what it says. Genuine Canon part at this price..... why buy anything else? Comes in its own protective case, which is now doomed, as this will now stay on my 28mm f1.8 lens for ever more. Quality product as always from Canon.

I bought this to protect my very precious 50mm Canon prime lens, and it does the job perfectly. I went for Canon, as it is not that expensive and Canon apparatus is normally well-built and therefore ideal to protect an expensive lens.

This review is for the 'Canon 58mm Regular/Protect Filter', My style of filming requires some lens protection and this is just what I want. A filter that does nothing except protect the expensive optic.

Great as it is so see through at first I thought I had been conned! Crystal clear and doesn't impede the shot on my Legria HF G25! I'd like to thank Canon for helping protect my £600 lens for £20!

Being a Canon filter you can be sure that the quality is as good as the expensive lens that you want to fit it to.Worth the purchase price compared to risking that expensive lenses front element.

Perfect fit as you'd expectCrystal clearDoesn't interfere with camera/lens functionsA must, IMO, expecially if you're shooting outside with the chance of rain or in dusty areas etc

Does what it says on the tin. Have to say that having this or another from another brand I didn't see big differences, but again I'm not a professional photographer.
