It works well as a protector for your lens. Build and glass quality seems good. I couldn't really quantify the difference between this and a cheaper filter in terms of quality and reflection reduction from the multicoating, but I couldn't notice any change in the image. The pack I received had a plastic corner (from the 2 C-shaped edges surrounding the lens) that was broken and loose inside the pack - luckily it was moving on the outside of the filter, so the glass was not affected. However it makes me wonder how could it break like that. The pack was perfectly intact from the outside. The filter is also not as thin as it appears from the photo. Actually, the photo appears quite deceiving,I think it's a photo of the filter with a larger diameter (with the number in mm cancelled in the photo) which makes it look thinner (all filter sizes having the same width). The width of this filter is just the same as a standard Hoya UV 46mm that I had on my previous camera (that's around 4mm excluding the threading), so I'm not quite sure how is this supposed to be thinner. I'm putting my own photo so that you can see how it actually looks like. Also, beware of fakes! Mine was genuine, but there are loads of fake Hoya around. Check the package (I found it difficult to find the photos of the official packages - I'm putting up my own then).

My Fuji XS1 cost almost £700 when new so a no brainer in order to protect lens. This is a bridge camera so lenses are not interchangeable. You only need a scratch on the lens to warrant throwing the camera away. I know some say filters are not needed on digital cameras. Some report that the auto focus can be confused by the extra layer of glass. I am happy to report that but both the XS1 and my Canon 650D work fine with this filter, even in lowish light which is always the test. Therefore, I would rather spend £22 replacing the filter than forking out several hundreds on a replacement camera or lens.Camera King have supplied both filters despite Amazon try to direct me to another and more expensive supplier for this one.Watch out for that as I had clicked on my previous purchase and it still tried to send me elsewhere!!! Not happy that Amazon system acted in this way and will be extra careful in future.Delivery was quicker than the first purchase so well done to Camera King!!

I bought this to cover and protect the lens on my Panasonic DMC-FZ45. As a protector it is great. It's a solid and sturdy piece of aluminium and optical glass. Using this means that I don't have to constantly attach and detach the lens cap every time I want to use the camera. However the Z45 lens cap does actually fit on top of this filter so, if you prefer you can use both. The filter does not appear to distort the picture in any way which is a definite must and, after reading a few reviews on other products seems to be an issue with some cheaper generic brands. As a UV filter, well to be perfectly honest I can't tell the difference with or without it. They may be something there but the differences so far are minimal.I would probably need to play with it some more in various lighting situations to give a more accurate review in terms of UV filtration. As a UV filter I can't really judge it but as a lens cover/protector this is perfect.

This is a nice protective filter which I used on my Nikon DSLR. It comes in a plastic storage box (which you should keep - don't impulsively throw it away as I might have in the past). They are useful for storage when not in use. The filter screws on easily and provides excellent protection from damage, but perhaps more importantly, from cleaning. Once you clean any lens you are starting to damage it through scratches, which are really unavoidable. With the filter in place, you are cleaning a fairly cheap filter, rather than an expensive, multi-coated lens. FIlters also seem to be a lot more resistant to scratches than optical lenses. It always makes sense to fit filters to your camera gear and your spotting scope if you are a birdwatcher, hunter, or target shooter.

Received well packaged, very promptly, and no complaints about the quality. My only observation is after quickly getting dust on it I made the mistake of wiping it with a microfibre cloth. That shouldn't have been a mistake but all of a sudden I was creating smears somehow on the new type of filter surface. What a nightmare to get clean again. (And yes my cloth was clean).I seem to recall reading somewhere about this type of hoya filter coating being like this, and I also seem to recall reading that smears like this are there on most filters after you've cleaned them, but you just can't seem them as easily.Bought for protection of a lens mainly and not had much of a chance to use it but I shall update if these 'marks'cause any problems with the images.

Always used Hoya filters on my lenses.I purchased this 1 to fit my Nikon 50mm F/1.8G lens. The quality is far superior to other quality filters that I have used in the past, I have used it with studio lights & I have noticed a slight enhancement to my photo's in skin pigments it tends to give a more true skin pigment. Outside the enhancements are more noticeable with skies' & greenery being more truer quality. This is a great quality lens protector as well as the clip on Nikon lens cover fitting perfectly well.Cost wise? more than 50% saving so its a bargain to be had.5 stars from me & 1 thing to mention I read reviews before I buy & add my own review just to add that little bit more.A very worthy lens protector with a fantastic saving.

If you're wondering how deep this filter is: the depth of the non-threaded portion is 4mm (so it's pretty thin)Bought this for my Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX II - not so much for it's ability to stop UV but, as ever, to protect the front element of the lens from accidental knocks and scratches. Don't really have very much to say other than it probably does stop UV and it definitely does protect the lens. At 11mm I've not noticed any vignetting due to the filter blocking light at the edges of the frame and shooting a few shots with the sun in frame didn't throw up any obvious internal reflections so this filter seems good enough for my purposes.

I've never understood the difference between grades of Hoya filters, but each of them has always given me full satisfaction. This one was required for a brand new Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 lens, which will probably become my default lens choice in the two to three years ahead. All I can usefully say is that the filter is simple to keep dust and smear free and offers good protection for the front element of my lens. As far as I can tell, its influence on image quality has been neutral, which is exactly what I'd have expected from it. You can't really go wrong with a glass filter made by Hoya. Reasonably priced, reliable and effective.

I have fitted either a UV or a skylight filter to my lenses in the past as protection and having just switched from a full frame Canon camera with various lenses to a Fuji X-T1 with four new lenses, I have done the same again. I see no point in spending a lot of money on high quality glass and fitting cheap, sub-standard filters to the detriment of the images produced and Hoya have always been of a good quality, so I have sourced four new UV filters to suit my new Fuji lenses in the appropriate sizes. The slim frame doesn't cause any issues with vignetting when fitted to the 10-24mm, either.

Having recently taken up photography for a hobby I wanted something to protect my lens from accidental fingerprints, water drops or worse.Initially I just wanted something cheap for this and bought a supposed 'genuine' lesser known filter on ebay - it was total rubbish and was thrown away. This filter is very well made, produces very good results and is very shallow - good for ultra-wide lenses.Unlike the next level up of Hoya filter this one has a screw thread at the front which is important if you still need to use a 'pinch' lens cap that grips the thread.A good buy.

Delivered on time and pleased with the product. It really performs well in extremely bright sunlight conditions and in snow scenes it takes away the blue cast which can occur.I found the cloud colour and detail was enhanced as well. The down side I experienced occured when using flash I found that the photographs with my [normal settings pre filter] now have a very slight brownish tinge which appeared after using the filter working inside.I may have to adjust the flash settings to compensate.Overall pleased with the filter and the benefits for outside work are immediate.

I have had a cheap UV filter on my lens for some time and really wondered just what it was doing apart from protecting the lens, so I took it off and noticed no difference. Knowing that they are supposed to clear haze etc. and my landscapes were not coming out as expected I thought I would try a quality filter. Boy, am I glad I did. There is a world of difference between cheap single or poorly coated filters and this quality multicoated one. My landscapes now come out as expected and so do many other pictures. Don't buy cheap, it's not worth it.

Received the product within 2 working days.It fitted snugly in 18-55 mm kit lens of my Canon 550D. Inside ring has a groove on the side facing away from the lens so my original lens caps fits well into it and this also means you can fit additional filters on top of this filter.I have taken a few shots with the filter on and found the picture quality to be good and there is no vignetting (even at 18mm). Original lens is now protected and I am relieved.I would recommend this product if it's selling at a discounted price, RRP is high I think.

Hoya has a well established reputation for manufacturing quality lens filters from way back (I used to use them on my film SLRs). This is a high quality UV filer for digital SLRs. It'll help to reduce the levels of UV light entering the lens giving shots a 'warmer' appearance, especially on very bright sunny days when shots can tend to get a bit glary. It'll protect your lens from scratches too and, since your lenses will be a lot more expensive than the filter, its worth putting on a lens filter just for that. Recommended.

Unless you are an optician, how is the average photographer-in-the-street to best decide among the myriad of filters on the market? So, I went for a well-established make and a Pro model on the basis that thinner glass is better (less if any vignetting). What can I say: it screws onto the lens (Canon EF-S 18-200mm IS), without problem; you could screw another filter onto it; the glass does not rattle around, and I've noticed no strangeness with the images produced. I wanted protection for the lens, besides the UV filtering.
