As the largest pen manufacturer in Japan, the Pilot Company has been making pens since 1915 (its liquid ink technology having been utilised since 1985), and has made a rather large subsidiary in the UK, with a diverse range of lines aimed at various individuals with specific writing needs.I am a student of humanities and creative writing, as well as a healthcare assistant for a regional agency. Due to the nature of my studies and job, I always make sure that I am carrying a pen on me, and the Pilot Hi-TechPoint has now become my staple writing accessory. I have used other pens on the market, but they don't seem to compete with the sturdiness and ink-flow that the Pilot has to offer. The Pilot company manufactures a lot of pens for specific individuals, but these Hi-TechPoint V7 pens seem to be the variety that fits my daily needs; flowing easily across the page and incorporating a pure black liquid gel ink that is always clearly visible upon putting pen to paper. The MicroBall RollerTip has a 0.77mm diameter that provides a 0.5 mm writing line. In essence, this means, that the rollerball tip is not too small for everyday use, but provides a thin enough line for note-taking and for daily log entries, such as in my personal line of care work. The pen itself looks like the standard variety gel pen that has a hook on the lid, perfect for sitting in your trouser pocket whilst on the go, or for clipping into your portfolio for class. Down the side of the main body, there is a window that indicates the ink level, which is a handy feature for knowing when to change pens so you won't get caught short. There is also a regulator in each pen which makes sure that there is always a consistent flow of ink until the levels have emptied. This ensures that there is very little blobbing or leakage on the page with a natural flow of ink, making it perfect for when a large chunk of information needs to be written down in rather a small space and length of time. That being said, you do need to make sure that the cap has been placed back tightly, and that you don't press too hard onto paper when writing, as I have noticed that staining does sometimes occur when I have simply clipped the pen into my jeans pocket with the nib rubbing against fabric. The Pilot pen requires a smooth glide by the user, which does take some getting used to after using standard rollerball gel pens, as well as the more common biros.Overall, I would highly recommend the Pilot Hi-TechPoint V7 Rollerball pen for both students and professional workers alike, as I have received nothing but compliments from my colleagues and friends who have observed my handwriting upon completing daily logs. They do take some getting used to in terms of gliding pressure, but are by far the more superior writing pen to choose from in my opinion. With a wide variety of options to choose from in terms of colour, composition (fountain pen, marker, gel rollerball, et cetera), as well as nib diameter, the Pilot company offers a range of choices to fit each individual need.N.B. The information and photos attached to this review are for the 12-box black coloured rollerball pens offered by the Pilot company. However, they can also be purchased as a triple and six pack, as well as individually. They do come in a standard labelled box; however, this depends on the seller, and will sometimes either be packaged loosely or in a cellophane envelope.

In common with, I suspect, most office workers, I have access to a free supply of office pens but they are horrible to use. The Pilot pens are such good value (via Amazon at least) that I don't mind paying for the ability to be able to write office documents more pleasantly and readably!I chose the Pilot v7 (over the v5) because of the broader line it produces and have been very pleased with the results. However, the barrel is quite thin and so if, like me, you have quite long fingers, you may find it a little less comfortable than some others (such as some of the Bic rollerballs, which have separate and fatter grips on the end). It doesn't make writing difficult, but it does feel a little insubstantial in the hand.Hence only 4 stars. Perhaps Pilot could make a slip-on grip to complement their range?

Good value (although the price seems to vary wildly between sellers, so find the cheapest). I prefer the V7 to the V5 for everyday duties, they write well even on poor quality paper. The only negative for me is that the red pen from both of the last two packs I bought leaked at the tip resulting in red fingers. Odd that it was the same colour in two different packs bought at different times, no problem at all with the blue or the black.Edited May 2021 to add that the red pen in the third pack is now leaking. What's different about the red pens compared to the blue and black?

The HiTecPoint pens have free flowing liquid ink which I have never known 'blob' or leak like rollerballs or ballpoints. They seem to last forever (provided someone doesn't 'borrow' it permanently in the meantime). The V7 is the most practical and will withstand heavy use. The V5 is excellent for really fine detail work or elf sized writing, but is more susceptible to damage to the tip if dropped heavily on a hard surface.I always have a couple spare with me, because reverting to cheap writing tools when you lose your V7 seems like taking a step back 50years.

I used these pens for many years during college and secondary school, and they are excellent pens. They write smoothly and allow you to write much quicker than traditional ballpoints or biros. However, it is quite a wet write, subsequently meaning that they do run out quite quickly - mine would last only a week or two at most. If you are looking for a pen to use in the short term, this pack of 12 is ideal. In the long term, a refillable fountain pen may be a better idea:

Great pens these. I use them at work all the time and although not quite as nice as a good fountain pen, they're really excellent for what they are. The ink is a deep black and the nib is fine but never scratchy and has a wet flow that dries quickly. I actually find them almost transparent to work with, as any good tool should be. I have ideas and the words magically transfer themselves to paper. Highly recommended.

My parents recommended these pens to us. My son is at secondary school and obviously a lot of writing is involved. In the past I have bought berol and Stadetler pens and he always seem to loose these or they ran out quickly. He says his writing has improved since using these pens and they last for ages. He never seems to loose these pens! He highly recommends to any student. The V7 is better size to the V5.

This pen is perfect for writing and drawing. The thickness is ideal, which enables you to produce decent handwriting. It doesn't break easily or leak. It works straight out of the box and ready to go. As long as you keep the pen facing down, it never lets you down.I have not used any other pen for more than 10 years. This is why I always buy plenty of spares. It's simply the best.

The neatness of the lines of the written words allows one to concentrate on substance rather than worry about whether the pen transmits clearly to paper my ideas or whatever I wish to write.A very excellent pen that I will recommend highly for such reasonable price.Put the cap at the end of the pen when you write and you will appreciate how well balanced the pen has been designed.

Pilot V7 pens have always been a favourite of mine to write anything from a shopping list to a formal letter. No writers cramp with these, The ink flows with the ease of a fountain pen, but handles like a ballpoint. And no blots.Through Amazon I can now buy them in bulk, which is something you rarely find on the High Street these days. I will be back for more..

I find these pens (in all their colours) simply the best disposable pens I have ever used, by a considerable margin. Their slimmer than average shape makes them much easier and less tiring to hold, and the ink is much smoother than in any other pen I have tried, making writing less of an effort: definitely a plus for a teacher with a huge pile of work to mark!

Ive used these Hi tec V7 and V5 pens for years..they are excellent pens for my job as a draughtsman/building technician and not just the black ones ...blue and finer V5 for colour details in red/blue etc..usually purchase in store at Office Outlet..nee staples/Rymans etc..but prices hiked right up so now tend to go on line.. Amazon etc and get them cheaper..

I’ve had a blue version of this pen since August 2010 and it has never let me down even when I’ve left the cap off and despite the reservoir being empty it still continues to work.I wanted to buy a black ink pen so what better advertisement than to buy from the same marque and range that has given trouble free usage for almost 3 years!

31.1.2012

I have tried many types of pens, but the Pilot V7 are my absolute favorite. They are robust, reliable and never dropa blob of ink. I ordered a box of 12 back in May 2010 and I still have some left, despite a lot of writing andsigning. As the previous reviewer said, it is hard to go back to a lesser pen, so I always keep a few spares.
