For myself, I am more than happy with this product, which I purchased as a second audio unit for the kitchen after my faithful old Sony hi-fi (probably 20+ years old) declined to recognise compact discs anymore. The appearance, compactness and sound quality of the MCB146/05 are perfect for my requirements but, as mentioned by other reviewers, it only appears to display cd track numbers (perhaps this may be the cds since, although not being technically minded, I assume the information has to be embedded on the disc somehow) and no batteries were provided for the remote. However, neither of these "niggles" are of real concern to me, bearing in mind the huge saving on the RRP (over 60% at the time)and, after all, how much do 2 AAA batteries cost?Granted, the blue display can be a little difficult to read, especially in daylight but, for me, this is only another minor "niggle".Not having previously experienced DAB radio, I was amazed at the sound quality - it really is "near-cd" quality - but perhaps I may be fortunate enough to live in a good reception area. There seem to be dozens of stations - although regrettably for me, most appear to produce the same awful racket! - but then I purchased it mainly for playing cds.All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase. Ideal for kitchen, bedroom, study or even lounge, especially where space is limited, and I would recommend it to anyone, except possibly those seeking to blast their neighbours out of house and home!Although I do not intend to test the volume level to its limit (range 1 to 31) - levels 9 to 11 seem to be more than adequate, depending on the source. In conclusion, my congratulations and thanks to Amazon (and the courier, Hermes UK) for an excellent and speedy service, as I took delivery of this product 41 hours after placing my order, it being delivered on the day it was expected to be despatched.

I bought this little stereo for use in the bedroom, and for that purpose its a nice little unit at a very reasonable price. To be honest the sound is not going to blow you away (its a bit weak and lacks range, probably due to the limited capability of the small speakers) but its adequate enough for low to medium volume use. There's no bass/treble adjustment other than a Bass Boost button. I would not recommend this as a main Hi-Fi for the living room. However, the DAB radio is excellent and effortlessly picks up all the available stations, there is a useful wake-up alarm function and FM radio and top-loading CD player are all included. The overall design is neat and stylish and pretty much everything can be controlled using the neat little remote, which works well without even having to point it at the unit (at least while the batteries - not supplied - are fresh). The illuminated blue display looks cool and displays DAB/RDS station information (I love the 'Now playing' text which tells you what track is currently being played on DAB), however in a dark room it appears very bright and lights up the room which may not be to everyone's liking. At the Amazon (not Curry's) price though this is a good value DAB machine and you could easily spend just as much on a DAB radio or Clock Radio - this Philips system gives you more for your money and provides better sound quality. I'm glad I bought it.As usual congratulations to Amazon on another quick and efficient free delivery.

I bought this as a hifi for a small home office - 3 metres by 3 metres. For a room that size, it's great. It's extremely easy to use, took about 5 minutes to set up (and I'm not the best at these things) and it looks pretty smart too.Plus points: crystal clear DAB with no hum, as I've had with cheap systems in the past, takes up minimal space, good sound on the CD, fantastic sound quality at low volume.Negative point: no tone or balance controls. If you're after a stereo to fill a large room with sound, you won't find it here. But then again, this only costs £60. If you're after a decent branded DAB and CD player, that's easy to use and is meant for a small room, then you can't go wrong. If you purchase this, make sure you've got a couple of AAA batteries to hand - the remote control needs them, and they're not supplied!

I got this as a Christmas present, and I love it!! Sound quality is great, the remote control is fantastic and makes everything even easier to do, and the DAB radio is great too. You can also connect an MP3 player, iPod etc using the auxiliary input, another useful feature. My favorite feature is that you can programme the CD player to just play specific tracks. This is really handy if you want to skip out any boring songs or if you just want to listen to a select fewOverall this is a fantastic HiFi and the only possible downside is that there is no iPod dock, but this isnt a massive problem because you can just use the Aux, although this does mean you cant use the wonderful remote.Still a brilliant system though! Worth every penny.

I love Amazon! I had been looking for a small well priced HiFi for my bedroom. I also wanted to plug in my MP3 player. Looked high and low, and could not find what I wanted at the price. Went on Amazon, looked at users review, and ordered it straight away.It was delivered in 2 days, plugged in and ready to us in about 10mins. It is a nice size, and looks good. It has a really good sound for what a micro HiFi. The DAB radio is great, strong signal strength. I was surprised at well priced it is, but I suppose it is being made defunct by ipods. The only minus is the short speaker wires, makes it a bit tricky to space the speakers apart. For those of us that just want to listen to radio and CDs it is ideal.

I got this last week and am very pleased, the sound from the dab radio is very clear and tuning is easy. Another reason I'm impressed with the quality of sound is the small size of the speakers which fit neatly around my TV. Connecting to an ipod is easy as well given that there are two headphone ports (one is an aux so if find another wire i can connect it to the tv I suppose) in the back.Very neat system, easy to use and set up, and a good price. If you connect it to your ipod/mp3 player as well there's no reason it can't be future proof as well, everyone's got old CD's lying around so why not put one in from time to time?!

The PHILIPS MCB 146/05 MICRO HiFi SYSTEM has 2 well balanced stereo speakers that give excellent stereo separation. Apart from placing a CD into the CD player every thing else is delightfully operated from the remote control. From selecting CD Player, DAB Radio, or FM radio. Radio channel, sound volume, sleep timer or even set the clock.I Live in a bad area for DAB radio but the PHILIPS MICRO pulls in 10 DAB radio stations with perfect reception. FM reception is also good.Very good value for the price.

This item was purchased because I am intending to shortly move into sheltered housing from a large 3 bedroom bungalow and it seemed to fit my requirements and other Amazonians reccomended it.It came swiftly as all puchases from Amazon do and was well packed by the makers. On connecting up and tuning in I was astounded at the number of stations I could receive on the DAB system. It has now been packed away pending my removal but I am sure the long term use will prove satisfatory.

Got this for the mother-in-law as a replacement for a previous DAB, CD player that she had bought herself on the cheap, (so cheap it lasted just over a year). This machine immediately found 3 times as many DAB stations in a relatively week signal area. The sound quality is very good on radio and CD - it is easy to use and looks like a much more expensive system.I would recommend this if you are looking for a budget priced but quality DAB, CD system.

Firstly you need to understand that I am an idiot. I sorted the DAB presets out in no time and managed to put a CD in the tray and press play. Brilliant value for money. Sound quality is better on DAB radio than CD but that is being hyper critical ... I guess it would not be suitable for a large living room but fantastic for my living room in my flat. If I was flush I would buy another one for the kitchen. If you are in two minds just buy it.

Bought this to put in the Kitchen and it fits neatly in the corner. Very pleased with the quality of sound, especially when listening to my favourite CDs. At first I found the antenna awkward but I soon got used to it and get a very good reception for the DAB radio. Have had a great deal of pleasure from this item and absolutely no problems with it. Highly recommended.

I bought this stereo for my daughter, and must say this really fits the bill. It's a nice size, not too bulky and easily fits on her shelf. It has a good range of volume, it can be turned right down to whisper as well as quite loud, and the digital radio is great. It also plays R/W CD's but not sure what format they were created in. Would definitely recommend.

Just thought I'd let others know. Just bought from Amazon and arrived promptly. Easy to open and well packaged. This unit took less than 5 minutes to set up and offers a suprisingly good sound from such a small comact unit. OK It's not top of the range, but the DAB Radio is a doddle to set up with a fast scan. I'd recommend this Philips MCB146. Thanks Amazon.

This was bought as a birthday present for my mum. She had asked for a DAB radio with CD player. Found this one and thought it looked perfect. Nice and compact, good quality sound as you'd expect from Philips - and very loud for such a small stereo! Easy to set up. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Would defo recommend it.

I bought this as a birthday present for my daughter. She's pleased with it, except that the wrong remote control was in the box - no controls for the DAB radio, and a control for cassette player which it doesn't have. She can control the hi-fi using the buttons on it, so its not a disaster and she will get a replacement.
