I was initially looking for a stylish compact, good sounding cd player. I wasn't bothered about Bluetooth or DAB etc. I decided to give this a try and let rip with a few of my CDs. I was really impressed with the sound. I listen to mostly Rap/Hip-Hop so I'm no audiophile but I do like to be able to hear the music. I like to listen to it loud but with so many sound systems the bass tends to distort with Rap music once you reach a decent volume. This doesn't do that. For the size I wasn't expecting the clarity this little box gives. My mother in law has a Bose (600 quids worth!) so I'm comparing this to that and I would say this at least equals the sound quality.I couldn't afford the Bose and had no intention of spending over 600 pounds on a cd player. But this is just the job for my CDs, really pleased with the sound quality. But that's not all! I do have a couple of cheap Bluetooth speakers so I can stream music from my music collection stored in Google Play Music from my Nexus 6. So I held my phone to the Sony and it paired straight away thanks to the NFC and I played some of my music via Bluetooth. Wow. The sound quality via Bluetooth was also very good, high quality. Very impressed indeed. I guess it's hard to convey sound quality to someone with words but all of my music is ripped from cd at lossless quality (flac) and then when uploaded to Google Play Music it's converted to 320kbps MP3. In my opinion it sounds almost as good as playing the original CD.The DAB just works. People are saying it doesn't, not sure if they had faulty units or not but it does work on mine. I don't listen to the radio much as it doesn't play the kind of music I like to listen to but for when we do have it on it works and sounds good. The display on the CMT-X5 is not the biggest and you have to be stood over it to see it but it fits in with the look of the unit even if it isn't very practical. The remote is small but does the job. If you're streaming via Bluetooth you can control the music on it with the remote.I haven't really used the USB input or the FM radio so cannot comment on those. I did try my PS4 headphones, which use a USB rf sender in the USB port but they didn't work (didn't expect them to to be honest as the USB is for input only, not output).I nearly bought the model down from this, the X3, but read this has a better sound so I'm glad I stumped up the extra money for this one.Very pleased.

This is one of a range of Sony Bluetooth Speakers I looked at before making a choice - this seems to be the same (in sound quality specs) as the slightly more expensive X7 and I decided that I could live without Airplay and Wifi, so bought this one.Out of the box it's very easy to set up and get your music playing. First up I put a couple of CD's through their paces. Initially I thought that Primal Scream's Movin on Up sounded a bit tinny to my ears, so I dug in to the SongPlay app and started fiddling around with the equaliser, which helped a lot - seemed to free everything up a bit. There is a bass repsponse, obviously nothing quite as booming as a system including a subwoofer, but instead more subtle and nuanced.I then listened to Hans Zimmer's excellent Interstellar Soundtrack over bluetooth from my iPhone. This soundtrack is particularly dynamic and enough to rattle the best speakers out there, but the Sony CMT-X5 held it together with aplomb. The ambience is quite clever and the balance between the frequency range is rich, with impressive timing. Sony's 'Clear Audio+' really does a great job here - there's little to no distortion and plenty of room to breathe.Honestly, for the type of situations that I listen to music (I listen all day every day in my office) the Sony CMT-X5 does it all - Noticeably High Definition and balanced music that's not afraid to forfeit unnecessary boom for the sake of a mature and levelled approach. It's loud enough too, without being brash or exhausting to listen to.If you want rather grumpy but fun to listen to bass pumping then you can get a Bose Soundlink Mini for around the same price, which will give you portability too, but if you want a serious, grown up, exciting, and dynamic listen with connectivity, DAB and a CD player, then there aren't many (if any) speakers that can offer the same package.Very impressed. If this review was helpful in any way, please hit the yes button below, and feel free to ask any questions.

What a brilliant slick all in one device, was on the look out for a new sound system and came across this. This sound system by Sony comes in 3 different versions all of which look the same. The first, the CMT-X3 has CD, USB and FM Radio, the next, the CMT-X5 has CD, USB, FM, DAB and DAB+ Radio and the last, the CMT-X7 has all of what the X5 has plus Airplay meaning you can stream wireless, all your music from your desktop to it. All the devices have Bluetooth, has a remote and touch buttons at the top of the device, nice.I went for the X5 which is perfect it is 40W powerful and displays sound smoothly and very clear, not far off from a BOSE system which are amazing but this is cheaper.Just to mention the X3 is 20W powerful and the X7 is 40W powerful, if you are thinking of getting one. It is very simple to set up I know from reading other reviews some have had problems with picking up DAB radio I have not had any issues with this. I prefer DAB but there's also FM Radio so you have the best of both. If you like your CD's, this System plays them, also MP3 readable and if you have a smart phone you can link it with Bluetooth and play music wireless from your phone to the device, which again is simple to set up, if your not sure just read the manual. There's also an app called SongPal which is dedicated to this Sony system from which you will have to have the Bluetooth set up first. If you have an iPod you can connect it by USB. Best of all this Sony system is compact and doesn't take up any room at all. I highly recommend this, well done SONY.

This is nice bit of kit with a few flaws that i've found so far. To be honest i've only really used this to listen to CDs as radio doesn't work well in the room i have it in (my fault not that of the device). I also have to say i've only had this for about one month so i have no idea about the longevity of the device. To my uncultured ears the sound is really good, nice and clear etc. It looks very nice sat on my kitchen work surface, very minimal and it only takes up a little bit of space.Down sides so far are that the nice shiny top with all the controls on and also the CD slot does tend to get dirt quickly as it's the top of the device.I'm also worried that having the CD entry slot as merely a little slot in the top might mean that dust and dirt drops into it and i have no idea how to get it out once it has made its way inside.I also find that the remote is so tiny it gets easily lost amongst the normal surface detritus in my kitchen, that and the fact that sometimes when i try to get it to do things it completely ignores me is a little annoying. One final thing that i've discovered is that when you put a CD on shuffle it then shuffles the CD in exactly the same way each time you play it. This means you might as well have played it from the beginning because you only ever hear the same songs in the same order each time!

This is a stylish and compact audio system. It is quick and very easy to set up and to operate. The remote control seems fine to me, not as fiddly as other reviews might suggest, but the range is not good, so I generally just use the Music Centre app on my mobile phone (connecting via Bluetooth and NFC are both fairly simple).Sound quality from CDs, mobile phone and iPod is excellent - actually better than that - I would say for such a compact box it is amazing. Trebles are bright without being tinny, and there is plenty of oomph in the bass. You really don't notice that it isn't a couple of speakers plus sub-woofer!I had read other reviews, and was expecting that the radio reception would be negligible, and it is. The aerial lead is the three-pin micro sort, so I couldn't even use powered external aerials that I already have. So for the radio, I just use the internet from my phone. Perhaps if you have a very strong radio signal, you might fare better. It does stagger me though that Sony go to all the trouble to make such a nice piece of kit and then give it such a poor radio. So as long as you are not expecting to have great DAB or FM reception, I can thoroughly recommend the sound quality, the look and the functionality of this system

This item looks good, really minimalist style with the display hidden from view. But it is the crisp sound that really impressed me. This quality of the audio would have required a separate amp, speakers, and other pieces of kit, 10 years ago. Richer sounds and a £1000 bill! Now, the system comes with various Sony proprietary technology built in , Clear Sound+, S-Master Digital AMP, DSSE. The S-Master AMP is described as:"Sharpen and enrich dialogue, music and ambient sound, from any audio source. Unique S-Master digital processing restores, optimises and refines audio signals, so you can enjoy quality and pristine sound that's true to its original source."The digital radio is also prepared for DAB+.This is an enhanced version that the UK has not adopted but if it does, this device will be able to receive it.The remote control was an unexpected extra that Sony could have left out but it is of course useful. The FM signal is still clearer than DAB for certain radio stations (a controversial issue to do with encoding) so if you can, try FM.If you want a minimalist look to your home, this black rectangle is a good choice.Note: Bluetooth is a bit of a pain to get working but persevere.

In all my years of buying and using tech, Sony has never let me down. Even after all the research of comparing brands, weighing pros and cons, I'll always lean toward Sony unless some other brand has a really compelling case. And this unit has maintained my faith.First off, it looks really cool. The fact that it sits upright means it can easily find a place in any room of the house; sitting room, kitchen, bedroom, etc. I'm of an age whereby I still buy CDs and upload the music to mp3. I suspect that before long this type of unit will forego the CD option, but it's still here for those who like to have media they can handle. Sound is excellent, whether from CD or mp3. Even though the unit is relatviely small and light,it has a great depth of sound with clear definiton. Connection via bluetooth is simple. The DAB radio works well, and it's pleasing to also have the option of FM. The remote control is neat and small, in keeping with the overall package. In summary, this is a great multifunction audio system that does everything well. Maybe not sufficient as a main system for a real audiophile, but it's certainly suitable as a secondary system at the very least.

This is an excellent product from Sony. The sound it produces is deep and rich and not too bass heavy. It looks good too although it isn't flat at the back, it angles out a bit and so you do need a bit of room to ensure you can keep it on the side - it isn't too big but it isn't tiny. It took a little bit more effort to pair with my Ipod but the instructions were fairly clear - it could be simplified to be honest. The CD drive is accessed by putting discs in from the top - it does have a dust guard but place a disc in and some will probably get in. The DAB radio is good too but it should be - the audio performance is good from such a fairly small unit. All in all this is an excellent option for streaming audio. It looks the part, sounds great and is fundamentally easy to use with its remote control (which is nice and small and not a huge bulky thing). You can also download the app and control it via your phone or ipod - I have tried it and it works. Excellent stuff.

Absolutely love this Sony product. Definitely a major step-up from the radio alarm clock it replaced. Sound quality is crystal whether it is CD, FM, DAB or Bluetooth. Toggling the pre-set 'SOUND' to enhance the type of music you're listening to. I did not have the DAB/FM reception issues that other experienced. But I did make sure the DAB antenna 'clicked' in properly as per installation instruction. Also being on the first floor (bedroom), the elevation may have aided with the reception. SongPal is a must, especially when you misplaced the remote. NFC make connecting even easier. The only bad points I can see are;1) Power lead sticks out the back, so cannot make it sit flushed to the wall. But a 'right angled' power lead (Figure Fig of 8 IEC C7 Mains Power Lead Cable - Right Angled / White 0.5M, 1M, 1.9M, 3M or 5M (1M)) would probably solve this problem.2) CD take roughly 5 seconds longer to read compared to other CD players in the house.

Just received this unit after highly praised recommendations. Sturdy build, and feels solid, not `plasticy` (although the case is obviously). Great sound, including wide stereo and EQ. CD playback is very good. Setup is simple with comprehensive instructions. Bluetooth connection is simple, and although it says its optimised for Apple stuff like Iphone and tablets, its connects faultlessly to Android devices as well, without problems,at least for me.Have successfully connected a Hudl 1 via bluetooth using `Spotify` music download system, and a Andoid smartphone, and the reprduction is great..Music already on the Hudl/smartphone also plays back without any `jitter`. Should be possible to connect my laptop to it too, trying that next.If you do the same, make sure your device is `discoverable` by all bluetooth enabled devices, otherwise the X5 will not link up at all.Its a bit pricey, but good value for money. Highly recommended.

OK sound great, CD's great, easy to do BT sound with an app, line in great, looks the business and the unit is a lot smaller than I thought, however, the DAB using the bit of wire that came with the stereo was non existent...until:I stripped about 1cm of bare wire from the "Bit of wire" DAB antenna and wrapped it back spiral like along the insulation and stuffed it into a female RF splitter attached to the TV aerial socket. (See pics)This gave me my DAB channels and about another 20 FM stations, my initial disappointed groan of despair turned into a mighty bellow of victory and I even did one of those stupid Dad dances in my triumph. So all is not lost and we live in a built up area in Italy,so knowing what I know now would I buy it, yes as I can now get 6 Music and Radio 4 in Italy via my smart phone and at last (Our UK DAB radios don't work here) ...DAB!Time for another Dad dance of triumph I think (Maybe it's the wine!)

Good sounding product and works well. A lot of people have been saying about the reception on DAB but I have a way around that one, I have got some single front panel computer connectors and connected the Sony to an external DAB aerial and it then works fine, you have to put the centre core to the top pin and the braid to the bottom. I left short leads on from the computer and then joined them on to the coax. We have now bought a second one so we can play CDs in the kitchen. It also works well with a memory stick playing MP3 files, and also the iPod over blue tooth. So all in all good value for money. But would have been better if they had put an f connector on the back for the aerial.

This piece of kit is excellent, ample power easy to use , works very well from my Android phone ( via Spotify) it has full remote control and 40 watts to play with. I used to have a very expensive hifi ( Exposure) but as I got older, I could be bothered with all the equipment and the space it took up ( Wife complained more than me!) and sold it all. I'm not disappointed. I demo'd the Bose £600 pound system and it sounded deeper but certainly not worth the extra over this £200 marvelBuy it with confidence, the silver finish is very unobtrusive . buy the 40 watt version over the 20 watt it offers more power for the odd party and more clarity overal

I received this system for a gift recently and i absolutely love it! The sound quality is superb with bassy low end, soothing mid range and crisp highs. I love my music in all different forms so this was perfect for me. It also looks awesome with a slick, classy design with intuitive touch sensitive buttons with numerous options, whether you want to skip a knaff song or tune in the the excellent DAB, DAB+ or fm. It also comes with a handy remote which is nice feature. I additionally love the fact that you can play your classic CD collection on such a modern system. Overall, it is a brilliant sound system! ?

Great sound, nice unobstrusive style, a few niggling issues. The good• Looks great• CD Player sounds great• Works perfectly with chromecast audio plugged into audio inThe bad• radio reception is appalling - both DAB and analogue - unusable with the supplied aerial in place where a cheap DAB radio worked perfectly• remote is small and plasticky - so don't really use itThe fix• Bought a Philex Indoor DAB aerial and grafted onto the supplied one - this fixes reception and the DAB sounds great. So not the most desirable situation, but now works perfectly
