I've always ended up, with binoculars, using one eye anyway, otherwise whatever I was watching was gone by the time I got both eyes focused. In addition, due to a bad back, lugging a pair of binoculars was just too much, so I thought I'd give this a go.GREAT decision - I absolutely adore this monocular! It's weighty enough to convince you of the quality, as if the THIRTY YEAR warranty wasn't enough to convince you.Not too heavy to carry round in a pocket, plus there are two neck straps included.Focusing is a doddle.I've found that I need to take regular eye breaks, otherwise I start feeling the closed eye getting strained, but I guess that goes with the territory of monoculars, and isn't a big deal (I'm talking a couple of minutes every twenty minutes to avoid. This monocular also comes with a lens and eye piece cover, a cleaning cloth, and a good pouch with belt strap (pity there was no hook on the pouch for one of the neck straps, but I guess you can't have everything!).Finally, shop around. I bought off Amazon, only to find they are charging a significant amount MORE than the Opticron UK's RRP. Naughty Amazon!

Bought these after returning 3 other different brand monoculars to Amazon due to chromatic aberration/image brightness issues. My previous monocular was the Leica Monovid - the image quality of which I found slightly too dark. I WAS expecting to return these as well but...... I can't believe the image sharpness, brightness, clarity and colour rendition for something which cost me one tenth the price of my Leica Ultravid binoculars yet nearly, and I mean nearly, matches the image I obtain from the ultravids. Superficial build quality issues ( 2 minor scratches on the front lens retaining threads and thinning of rubber armour in places) but the optical quality and image clarity is rather stunning and far exceeds my (somewhat cynical)expectations. I shan't be returning these!

Like many people binoculars don't work for me, both eyes don't want to get the picture so I end up closing one eye. Monoculars are the solution. Not all monoculars are created equal though and it was after trying several types and prices ranges that I went for the Opticron. When I tried this it felt like going from standard def to high def. The 8x42 gives you plent of magnification and a great field of view too, ideal for easily spoting and tracking a bird or the like in motion. It's a really solid piece of kit, worth paying the extra for compared to some cheaper models and Opticron is a well reputed make too.

Due to an eyesight problem my binoculars are no longer any use to me and so after much "ploughing around the internet" I decided to buy this model, it arrived today and I can honestly say that I am totally satisfied with my purchase, I had considered cheaper ones and even a much more expensive one but this does everything I want, I just wish the 30 year warranty applied to the user as well as the monocular !!

I was delighted with this when it arrived this Morning. Compact light enough to be useful but enough heft to hold an image. Crystal clear bright imagingBut then I saw the eyepiece cover slipped offI called opticron and sarah Onacko gave the best customer service I’ve had in years (turns out the cap was 42.5mm should have been 41.5) she found one in the work shop emailed me and it’s in the post now !

I took this on a recent safari, and was very impressed with the quality and usability of this lens - and of course it is much less bulky (and much cheaper!) than an equivalent-quality pair of binoculars! the field of view and light-gathering power are very useful, and I find this lens well worth what I paid for it.

Being 8× and monocular, they are easy to hold steady, which is good, because there isn't a tripod mount. The image is super clear, with excellent colour and contrast.Take a chance with glasses, they are no good with mine. It all depends on the gaps between your eyes and the lenses.?

i ordered the 8x42 but i received 10x42 and i could not be bothered sending it back ,this monocular is very good at gathering light and is build to last and it sits well in the hand ,very good optics , and first class service from amazon as usual

Good quality build and optics. From a practical use perspective the optic quality equals that of much (much) more expensive instruments. Only reason for not 5 stars - the focus ring is a bit stiff but this might improve after a some use.

Tried this It is bigger than stated on description. Diameter is not 43mm It is more like 50mm. I brought the dearer version which has slightly better optics and rubberised armour.

This is an amazing mono; not even "considering the cost", the cost just makes it even better.
