The build quality is very good. Seems to be as sturdy as it gets. The objective lens cap is held by a piece of rubber so it won't get lost. The eyepiece cover is removable. It's not small or light for a 8x32 monocular, but still very portable.Optically, I can only compare this to old Russian Tento binoculars. It has much better colour fidelity than those, does not change the colours noticeably. The flare resistance is only slightly better, not very good, but usually not a problem. Chromatic aberration is quite bad, worse than the Russian binoculars. It's very noticeable when observing in a snowy landscape or against a white sky. I don't see a difference in sharpness, I feel that it's not bad,but could be better.Overall, I recommend this if sturdiness is important for you and you are not bothered by chromatic aberration. It's definitely a good monocular to take with you for any kind of touring.update: Today I had the opportunity to try a low-end binocular against this monocular. Compared to that, the picture is way-way better. The field of view is much larger, and the contrast of the image is much better. (Probably thanks to the anti-reflection coating.)

I have some binoculars but wanted something of reasonable quality that I could put in my pocket. I also have one eye much worse than the other and nearly all binoculars don't allow me to focus both eyes 100%. This monocular has a nice solid feel to it and is very comfortable to hold with the rubberised grip. The lens end has a tight fitting rubber cap that is permanently attached so can't be lost - really useful. The other end has a lift off cap that could be tighter so I am having to be careful that I don't lose it, I may try to permanently attach it somehow. The eye cup comes up as you twist it and the grooved ring in front is for focussing. As far as optical quality goes it is very sharp with no colour aberrations that I can see.It also has a reasonable case and neck strap. All in all I am very pleased with it and for the money was a great purchase.

I don’t want to reiterate what other customers have said but I think it’s worth pointing out a few things. This is a nice, chunky piece of kit and sits well in your hand. It’s comfortable to hold and the large exit pupil makes it good to use in low light conditions. It’s a bit big for dropping in your pocket though, but it’s swings and roundabouts. What are you looking for? One of the things I was looking for was a decent close focus and I’m afraid it’s not there. I’m a nature watcher and having an optical instrument that cannot focus on anything less than five metres away is not good. I’m talking birds, butterflies and any other creature that moves within a few feet of you as you sit perfectly still in the garden.I can’t relay fault it in any other way but I should have read the details before I bought it!

Having eyes with marked differences in performance I found binoculars a real 'fiddle', and then getting them adjusted so that both barrels were exactly the right distance apart took time and was irritating. This monocular is perfect, I simply raise it to my best eye and all the fiddle is gone. The performance, especially light gathering, is excellent. It is also less than half the weight and size of the equivelant binocular. I wonder why I ever bothered with binculars. The only limitation one might wish to be aware of is the minimum focus distance of about 5 metres. The fact that it is also waterproof and very rubust takes a lot of the worry about using it in trying conditions away.I make thesecomments on the basis of 6 months regular use.

I am very impressed with this monocular. I wanted something I could keep in the glove box of my car which was always readily available for immediate use. I have had several cheaper monoculars in the past but their optical performance was always poor. The optics of this instrument are superb. The field of view is large and bright, the light gathering power is excellent and the image is sharp and clear. My one minor criticism is that the monocular is rather heavy and would be bulky in a pocket or on a belt.Overall, I have no hesitation in strongly recommending this instrument.

This was purchased as a present for my life who has problems using binoculars. She is absolutely delighted with it, as it now gives her the opportunity to observe wildlife at closer quarters than her telescope in a practical and speedier manner. It is also suitable for everyday casual use, to carry around whilst on a walk with the dog or whatever. As a user of high quality binoculars myself I can also say that the optical quality of the Opticron monocular is excellent, and build quality and handling are probably best in its class. Highly recommended.

Does what I wanted it to, I only have one eye so there is little point in wasting money on two set of lens and this product fits the bill. One extra good point is that I got the updated model which has an eyepiece easily converted for use with and with out glasses. It has a nice case and comes with a lanyard. Over all a good product which is robust and will hopfully stand the test of time. Delivery was prompt.

Having only ever purchased optical devices that cost no more than £25 I can say that this monocular is a fantastic purchase. Compared with my other purchases this is the Rolls Royce of monoculars, incredibly sharp image, comfortable to use and the pull out view cap is handy when I wear glasses. The attached lens cap is also a good feature as I always managed to loose one. I would recommend this item.

I’I use this to watch wildlife, and although they are not the most powerful on the market they seem to get close enough and let in lots of light so the viewing image is always clear whatever the light. When you are walking about they are much more convenient that a pair of binoculars. Highly recommended.

Had researched monoculars big style - the Opticon is neat, compact - easily fits into pocket although does have a nice carry case.It does what we need it to do. Like it alot.

Not ideal for long distance but it will enlarge what you can see. You need to be close to see details on something like a bird or animal
