I often pack a compact set of binoculars for a variety of uses. I'm generally interested in wildlife and wilderness hiking & camping so a light, compact and good quality pair of binoculars can make the difference between spotting something and really seeing it. They are also a great aid in navigation (map, compass and landmark method of course... not much help for reading a satnav!!!). Not to mention making the most of concert/theatre views. The first thing you notice when unpacking these is the really high quality feel they have. For anyone who wants a pair of lightweight binoculars then these are ideal for hikers and bird-watchers. Quality does not come cheap but they are incredibly compact and lightweight and they are going to easily fit in a coat pocket so they are always at hand. But that leads to the one negative point - the lack of lens cap or carry case. This is going to mean that you are likely to end up with dusty lenses. It is not hard just to add some small caps and it would make them more robust for field trips. Having said this the optics are so good I still gave them five stars. They are just great.

These come with a grey carrying case, are fairly small and light, and can easily be adjusted to focus accurately on a range of distances. My only slight disappointment is that they don't allow focusing on very nearby objects, so you can't use them like a magnifying glass, but that's not really their purpose. In use they're light, comfortable and easy to use, and feel nice and solid.. You can adjust the separation so even an 8 year old can see through them.
