My Background:The first camera I used to properly take pictures was a MILC (Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera). It had served me good but I was getting to the point where I was not satisfied with the low light performance and the lack of lens options.PS:In this review I am not going to talk much about the pros and cons of the camera specification-wise because this can be done by looking at comparison sites. Instead I will focus on my use case and my experience with the product and what I found to be good or bad.The D7100:This is where the Nikon D7100 comes in. This was the first proper DSLR camera with a mirror and a viewfinder. At first I was very confused because I was not very used to the button layout, the menu loocked different and there were many extra features compared to my MILC.Pros:-The first thing I noticed was the performance in low light conditions. With the right settings I was able to reproduce very clean raw images to later develop on my computer.-Even at low shutter speeds I could take sharp pictures without blur (In comparison to my experience with low shutter speed blur with the MILC).-The grip on the camera is awesome. It fits very well in my hand does not slip.-The integrated flash prevents me from spending extra to purchase a flash add-on.-The viewfinder. I did not know the use of the viewfinder since the MILC I had did not have one but now I know why some photographers embrace the viewfinder. It shous you valuable information for taking the perfect picture. It is also usable with glasses on. Unfortunately I have transition glasses hich turns dark in UV light making it hard for me to tell if the picture came out good.Cons:-The biggest thing I noticed is the weight difference. This camera is heavy, considering I come from a MILC background.-Some features have shared buttons which kind of makes it confusing at first but I got used to them as I read reviews and watched videos.-The live view is not very good in terms of live viewing. If I change some settings in live view it is not represented on the screen. I would have to turn off live view and then turn it back on to take effect. Appart from that using the view finder is the way to go.Summary:I recommend this camera to everyone because it is very capable of delivering a good photography experience and a good learning for the beginners before they move on to professional grade kit.

I bought this camera 1 year ago, and I have taken 5000 photographs with it. A friend of mine bought a Nikon D800 at about the same time. While I am overwhelmingly happy with my purchase, he is bemoaning the fact that the cost of buying lenses and such like is prohibitively expensive for the D800. Meanwhile, I have bought all sorts of accessories for my camera and tried out all sorts of techniques that are beyond the depth of his purse. The D7100 is a wonderful travel camera, being much lighter and more portable than the D800. It also attracts less attention and is (presumably) less likely to get stolen. The camera has only ever produced bad images when I have done something stupid. If you hold the camera still and put your subject in the appropriate light, you will get images that most people think are so near professional that the difference doesn't matter. However, I believe that the pixel pitch on this camera is even smaller than that on the D800, so you will need to learn to hold the D7100 even more steadily than the D800 (I think!). Joe McNally's bok, "Sketching Light" shows a great way to do this. Many professional reviewers say that the kit lens is not sharp enough to get the best out of the 24mp sensor. They may well be right. So far, I have only used the 18-105 kit lens and the 70-300 VRII (which seems to me to be a lot better than the kit lens), the Nikkor 10-24, and the Nikkor 35f1.8There is no doubt at all that the D800 can produce significantly better images than the D7100, but, for me, the cost does not outweigh the benefits. Hope this Helps. It's the best camera that I have ever owned

A perfect next step for those who want more control. If you are finding yourself struggling with poor AF speeds and high ISO noise, then the D7100 is right for you. Many Pro's have down-graded to this new release from Nikon, as it is filled with all of the high-end spec and tech that you would expect from some of the more expensive DSLRs. It features a AF algorithm taken from the D4, the Expeed 3 processing engine, a dedicated HDR mode, virtual horizon as well as 24.1mp.It is a fast precise tool well equipped for sport and wildlife photography. A 6fps shoot speed (7fps in 1.3x crop mode) means that it can cope with anything you throw at it. It feels comfortable in the hand, with all of the important buttons and dials within reach. It is relatively light given the size and equipment. It features a 1.3x crop for extra reach and the 51AF points cover most of the frame. The lack of an OLPF means that the D7100 captures exquisite detail and it copes well in low light. ISO noise is controlled up to 6400, but suffers beyond this. The list of accessories and add-ons is huge. I would recommend the MB-D15 battery grip for those who want extra power. As would be expected from Nikon, all f-mount lenses work with the D7100, so if you have any lenses from a previous Nikon DSLR, keep them! They'll fit fine. The 18-105mm lens included in this bundle is a very good addition for many photographers' kit. It is versatile and useful in many conditions, but if you can afford it, spend some money on pro-level glass. To sum up, a fantastic buy and a very decent camera by Nikon.

Really very pleased with this camera. Packed with features, most of which I'll never properly understand, but the basics of ISO, white balance, aperture and shutter speed are easy to learn and control. Its not particularly light but is reassuringly sturdy and has survived many a bump without a scratch. If you're after a semi-'prosumer' bit of kit, I don't think you can go far wrong with this. I'm still of the opinion (and its only my opinion of course) that Nikon glass is better than Canon, so even if their interface isn't quite as easy to use as Canon, its worth investing the time to learn your way around the Nikon menus and features.I bought this to replace a D40x with 18-55mm kit lens.It wipes the floor with it (understandably as its a considerably more expensive and advanced piece of kit) and is helping get some great images despite my relatively novice skills. Overall I think its an excellent value investment if you want more than your average, budget point and shoot DSLR.

I had a D3200 before this D7100 and on the D3200 I put some better glass on it and got amazing results then someone recommended a D7100 and I did a shoot in the park today every shot is a keeper they are all good. I wanted a Canon but the model that would give me similar results was 3 grand. I would say I am a good photographer with a good eye for a shot and a really good camera like this model really allows me to shine in my artistic creativity. Technically I am not that knowledgeable but know what works and I like low light shots and may invest in a fixed 35mm lens. This camera body seems to have everything I need so now its time to have fun and experiment.I did buy the David Busch D7100 guide which has helped I am now using a faster download card and purchased a micromate Sandisk adaptor. I purchased the Nikon remote which works great, dirt cheap but recommended.

Camera is exciting and just what I wanted having upgraded from an entry level Sony Alpha Camera. Still getting used to what the Camera can do and how to do it and this will take some time yet, but initial reaction is brilliant.Would however just like to make a comment about the delivery. Time wise no problem and it arrived when it was supposed to, however, the courier (Fed. Express I believe) left the parcel next door without even bothering to call at my door and didn't even bother to leave a card in my door to say that he had left it next door. I was in and have a brand new loud bell which he didn't even bother to try.Lucky that I have trustworthy neighbours otherwise an expensive Camera could have gone missing.

Superb camera which is very user friendly. Easy set-up and instant shooting without too much reading. The delivery was excellent however I was disappointed by the packaging as it never mentioned fragile/breakable and was only in the camera box within another amazon box. Luckily it arrived in one piece!! So I better stop moaning and get back to my camera!!

It was time to upgrade from my Nikon D80 and I was looking for better results in poor light and improved auto focus. I was delighted with the initial results and there is more to achieve as I learn more of the camera's capabilities. The D7100 has a great feel and represents excellent value for money.

The package was great but it contained 2 manuals. The large one was in German and is therefore useless. The one in English is so small that it is impossible to read all the writing, especially that relating to diagrams. It would have been better to have the large, easiy readable manual in English!

Having been an Olympus fan for years I got frustrated with the lack of lens support for the 4/3 format. So after much debate decided to upgrade to a Nikon. Love the camera, pin sharp focus and packed with features, very impressed with the images so far.

The best camera I have ever owned, it does everything for the beginner or nothing for the dedicated manual photographer. Lovely to hold, well balanced with kit lens, superb.PS Amazon delivered it on the 1st day of release - not bad going!

I didn't want a bottom of the range DSLR, but neither could I afford a top of the top of the range DSLR.It's a good price, and I can't see myself replacing this camera as it does everything I need and more.

27.3.2014

What can you say about this camera other than fantastic, i dithered between this and the D800 (Full frame) but on my reckoning for me the D7100 beat the D800 for what i needed. Highly recommend.
