I play a wide range of games because of different gaming groups. This one on the complexity falls under the easier ones to understand but hard to master. The box is tiny but comes with so much inside. All of the money to use as these high-quality glossy cardboard cutouts pre punched. Each note a different colour and size to help differentiate. The 10 20 and 30 scoring tokens. All the art cards with varying simple paintings, the 5 gallery covers and a board for the rounds. A mini wooden easel is also included to use in game which is a really nice touch. The CMON version includes a wooden gavel that this one doesn't for obvious reasons but I wish the box was bigger and it had it because that makes it so much fun!But you can buy one yourself for fairly cheap.Give everyone 100 in money split from the smaller denominations. Then deal x number of paintings to each player based on player count. Each art gallery cover has the table printed on it. The game is in german however, you can find the translations online on the BoardGameGeek forums and even print out the player aids to stick over as well as a copy of the rules. However this game is language indeoentant and once you learn the game you won't ever need the rules.Game starts with first player playing a painting and then bidding commencing depending on the type of auction.Fixed price? Player names price and going clockwise each player gets a chance to buy it at said price. First person to do ends the auction. If no one does, player who played the painting buys it putting it infront of them.Hidden auction? Each player puts money in hand and closes fist. Puts in centre and all show and highest bid wins the painting placing it infront of them.Open auction? Imo the best one which is just all out bidding, this is where the gavel would hsve been lots of fun. Lots of wacky moments here. Highest bid takes it and places infront of them.Best price? Each player going clockwise from the player who played the painting names their best price. Bsck to the original who has a chance to beat the highest offer made to buy it, or give it to the player who made the highest.Double auction? Allows you to play 2 paintings of the same artist but 2nd dictates the auction type. So you can't play double and double. It'll be double and say hidden auction meaning hidden auction for both paintings. Buyer gets both. Now there's 5 artists in the game and the board shows also which artist is rarer in the case of ties. The round ends when 5 paintings from the same artist have been played, with the 5th not getting sold but simply ending the round. The value of an artists painting changes depending on the more of that artist being out. For example f there were 4 paintings of artist A then 3 of Artist B and 1 of Artist C then As paintings would be worth 30 each at the end of the round. Bs are worth 20 and Cs are with 10.Payouts only happen at the end of the round once the 5th has been played. So what players can do is allow people to bid high for Artist A, then devalue it by playing only Artist C. Thus it can drive Artist C into first worth 30 each and make Artist A worth 20 or 10, or in some cases if more than 3 artists are out, nothing. This is where the game shines and the fun really is. End of round simply lock in the price for that round, payout, deal x number of new paintings to each player and then play again. Game is played over 5 rounds however, each round the value of the paintings accumulate. So if Artist A sold for 20 in round 1. Then in round 2 he was worth 30. You'd actually add the value of round 1 also, making it worth 50. This can mean by the end of round 5,someone can be worth 100 plus per painting! The game is beautiful designed and I really like this version over the others. It's easy to learn, fun to play and very portable in such a tiny box. I wish the box art wasn't so plain but then that is Oinks style it seems. Highly recommend and great for even the lightest of gamers.
