Despite the lure of online games, I am pleased to say that there is still a place for board games of all kinds. Aimed at ages 4+ this is both fast, and easy, to play and it looks bright and colourful. This game involves matching five LOL character cubes in a row – either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. This is for two players and my daughter and niece were really happy to try this out as they are fans of LOL dolls. However, this is pink, and colourful, enough to appeal to most small girls, primarily, but boys will enjoy the game too.As such, it is a sort of Connect 4 game, but there is a twist to the game at the end involving the cards you are dealt,which makes it a little more interesting for older children (if you are playing with very young children, you could just forget this part of the game to make it easier). The idea is that you push through the cubes until one player gets a row of characters. Just make sure that when you set up the game, you do not have two of the same cubes together in any row. Before you start playing, each child gets two cards. Only once a player gets a matching row, the other player (losing player) turns over their cards. If one of their two cards matches the line of characters, the other player has made. then they can win the game. Obviously, little children may not cope that well with the idea of thinking they have won and then losing, but my daughter is eleven and my niece eight, so this was a fun twist for them.The pieces are well made and the game sturdy. Overall, a lot of fun and it is a quick game to play, so it will appeal to younger players who find longer board games complicated.

At first glance this looks like a similar set up to something like Guess Who or Battleship, but on closer examination it plays more like one of those addictive match up mobile phone games, with a cool two player twist. It's like a blind Connect 4. I can't comment much on the LOL factor - my girls have a bunch of these dolls of different sizes, but they all look similarly grotesque to me. The aim of the game is to get a matching row of four of these characters, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Each player takes turns pushing a block into whichever space they want, in turn knocking out a block on the other side. There's some degree of skill and thought in planning moves in advance,but the key factor is luck. The set also comes with a deck of cards matching each LOL - each player takes two cards and when they get a matching row, they get a bonus point if their matching row matches one of their cards - if the row however matches a card on the opposing player's side, they snatch the point. It doesn't add much and we prefer playing without the cards.The set can be folded up neatly and brought on travels - it isn't heavy or bulky, but it does outsize most travel games we have so it's used more at home. It's sturdy, although the cubes don't always slide into the slots nicely - sometimes there's a bit of twisting and shunting to get them in, which can result in them shooting out the other end. Still, it's fun and games are short and addictive, so it's worth a shot.

Personally I don't know much about these LOL dolls, other than thinking they are extremely ugly, but my youngest niece is rather keen, so I thought she might enjoy this game.It's recommended for ages 4+, although I think younger children will need a little help. Everything is ready to play out of the box, but there is a little setting up - all the cubes need to be removed, placed back in randomly with no line - horizontal, vertical or diagonal - having more than two of the same character in, and you need to check both sides of the board for this! Basically the object is to get a matching row, although there are some cards you can use either to gain extra points or for one player to steal a win/points from the player getting the characters in a row.I think what you do here would depend on the age of the child/ren.It looks like this game is from the makers of Top Trumps and also includes five 'normal' LOL Top Trumps cards. These look like they may be rarer ones and if I was going to be cynical, I'd say they'd included those to get kids to nag mum and dad to buy the Top Trumps game for them!Current price on Amazon of £25.99, which I'd say is a little expensive for what it is.

Tried this game out on some friends who visited with their 4 and 5 year old daughters. Being pink and related to dolls, they were really keen to play the game and were already familiar with the Top Trumps. It took a few minutes to set it up ready for play and they were away. The slightly younger girl needed a little support to play this with her older sister but they both really enjoyed playing it and had no sooner finished one game, they wanted to play another. A sure sign of approval. However, we did not use the cards at the end as younger children may not cope well with having their win snatched away at the end - this is a feature that is probably better for older children.Game is well made and durable and would travel well to take on holiday as it all packs neatly into the case - also helps to stop vital pieces being lost.

I have been disappointed with a lot of games recently. They are either a recap of old or so badly thought out that there is absolutely no entertainment value in them.This is different. This will be played over and over again by my young cousin and her friends. They think it's great! It's entertaining and competitive - like an old-fashioned board game that has gone through a bit of a design kick with big bright colours. It's well designed and portable, although I'm sad to see how much plastic is used. I appreciate that in order for it to last more than a few games, it has to be made from something durable and quite sturdy yet light and affordable and here comes plastic.That aside,I think it's a good game that will do well whether at home or on the road.

The two eight year old girls who played this absolutely loved it! One of the mums has put it on her Christmas list. The dolls are obviously very fashionable right now, but this game is such value for money - I can see hours of fun with this. This is why I’ve given it 5 stars; it’s very sociable.There are downsides you might want to consider:There’s a LOT of plastic involved.Character cards are small and fiddly (I’d say its 7+ rather than 4).The top trump cards seem to actually have nothing to do with the game (you get 5 included).The game play/design is a cross between battleships, connect 4 and guess who. All good fun.Please give me a helpful vote if I’ve helped you make a decision :)

LOL, Surprise Top Trumps Match Board Game is a great game for young children as well as the older kids even the odd adult or two has enjoyed playing with it. We do like board games in this household and the added advantage of this game for the pink-loving girls is the fact it is related to the famous LOL dolls which will suit the younger girls.This has been a sure hit and one game which did last all afternoon, there was even the odd queue who was going to play the winner.A great game full of fun.Happy to recommend.

I'd never even heard of LOL Surprise,but apparently all little girls are very familiar with the characters, so this memory matching game is perfect for when the twins get bored, particularly on long car trips.It's very handy for travel,as it happens,as it comes in a bright pink(a recurring theme) carry case: you just close up the doors and everything is contained inside. It's a great idea and keeps them occupied for ages: it's nice to see them playing together,rather than being on their tablets all the time.

Perfect for this Christmas as the Lol Surprise theme seems to be the current fad.The game itself looks like it should be good for testing the memory and I really like the fact that it is portable, since it closes up into itself, so it will be good for taking to friends’ houses or on holiday. It is simple to play and games are quite quick so no t8me for frustration to set in.It’s pink and very girl orientated so don’t buy if this bothers you but I suspect 4-6 year old girls will enjoy it.

I've never heard of LOL dolls but my two nieces have so I went ahead and ordered this game. It reminds me of Battleship and the purpose of the game is to match 5 cubes in a row. The game is very straight forward and is aimed at 4+ however my nieces are 7 and 9 so I was worried that they would find it too 'babyish' but they really love it.I can see that there's lot of play value in this judging by how often it get's played but it does seem quite expensive so I've given it 4 stars.

I played 'LOL Surprise' Top Trumps last year with my niece, and despite having never seen any of the characters or traits before I found it quite fun. This is a sort of expansion on the flat card game. It's well designed first of all, and suited well to the kids who'll be playing it as it sets up easily and packs away quickly and well into a convenient package. The tiny cards are the only real drawback. It's taken over playing the card game on its own, and is a nice fun game.

Nice little travel game. Comes in a sturdy little carry case to take around with you on the go. The game is simple enough for my 5 year old to understand, teaches her about patience and planning ahead. Although this is a top trumps game it’s more like a fancy connect 4. It comes with 3 top trump cards which I don’t really get as not much your can do with them. And ultimately this is a plastic game, you are paying the price tag for the lol stickers.

My daughter is LOL mad, so this was a much welcome surprise in my house! Simple to play (there's nothing more boring than having to wait while someone wades through pages of instructions!) and should be great on those cold winter afternoons when the iPad has gone flat! I actually think this is much better value than the LOL dolls, which seem very expensive for a piece of plastic which does very little (but then I'm not an eight year old girl!)

Very bright pink , and has the advantage of being lightweight as it’s made from plastic and easy to carry . It’s a twist on the top trumps game , similar in that it’s a game of memory but with cubes instead of cards, and smaller pieces .The bases of the game of rembering and matching your characters up could be played by most age ranges but the pieces are small and I would suggest 6 upwards so that kids don’t get frustrated.

This is an ideal game for young kids and lots of fun for the family too. My daughter is really into board games at the moment and absolutely loves this game. She wants to play it all the time. She gets easily bored with some games but continues to enjoy this one. She probably loves it more as it’s LOL. If you have a little one who loves LOL dolls and games this is a perfect gift for them.
