Some of the reviews mention problems with the cylinder or the keys. They are previous to the 2017 "New-U" design. I think it is not fair to keep them here.I purchased a Kryptonite MegaLok back in May 1998. Twenty years after, in May 2018, the cylinder failed. I have been consistently parking my bicycle outdoors for the last five years, with plenty of rain in the last months. To open it we had to use an electric grinder (this reminds that ANY lock, even the "9-10" rated can be cut in seconds with a power tool).During these twenty years, I lost the keys three times. Every time I got a totally free replacement in my mailbox, overseas.That's why Kryptonite was my first option when I looked for a replacement.Since this model is not directly available in Spain,

I bought this product as it is the same as the one I already have and has worked perfectly for the last couple of years. It's not to heavy and does what it says on the tin. So when it arrived it was a bit of a shock. The new one that was sent was the series 4 mentioned in the description not the same as the one in the picture. It was very heavy and way over the top for a £100 bike. OK it would take someone with some serious kit to even attempt removal but it's me who would have to lug it about. So i'm afraid its been returned. FOUR Stars as it really looked the part MINUS ONE Star as its far to heavy for a push bike in my opinion.

Weighs loads and is very very robust, gold standard means that its going to be hard to get into. I have on a folded Brompton and it will fit frame and back wheel to most posts, I use a big double loop of 14mm to secure front wheel. I will not fit to frame when riding so my loss of 1 star is only down to the face that the metal fixing point on the left side of the picture is not removable and so care need to be taken when securing the bike as this has frame scratcter written all over it. I have secured with electrician tape but hopefully when Kryptonite issue the next gen they will make this part removable.

I cannot foresee anyone finding it worth their time to get through one of these to get my bike. The guidance is to buy a lock that costs 10% of your bike however I would disagree with that. A good D lock ensures you will come back and find your bike where you left whereas with a cable lock no matter what bike the thief can steal your bike and make it worth their time. This lock comes with 3 keys one with a light on it. everything is sturdy and several months after the original purchase the lock still works great.

I bought this lock some 6 years ago: 6 years later after much use, and then a long period of sitting in a cupboard, it still works absolutely perfectly.Although never destruction tested, the shackle is very sturdy, and unlike cheaper locks, it locks into the mechanism on both sides so a would-be thief has to cut through both sides. The mechanism to fit it to the bike while riding is a little stiff, but eases up over a few days of use.I would think this lock would deter most thieves from most bikes.

Very nice, well built piece of equipment. It is a pleasure to touch and look, so well build and solid it is incredible.However !It is quite narrow and long and therefore not very convenient to lock. I managed to use it, but it was quite hard.I do not know how they decide sizes, but this one is on the limit. Too narrow, could be wider.Attachment to a bicycle is not perfect either, but it is usable.Build quality is good but attachment is cheapish

Used daily, does an excellent job. (Still got my bike!) The attachment to bike method I find to be an extremely good idea, it is unobtrusive yet very simple to remove and replace to my bike. For such a robust device, it surely must be one of the neatest overall solutions. I would advise anyone to definitely go for the long shackle version, as it is no more hassle yet is a lot more versatile in locking your bike to objects.

I recently had my mountain bike stolen. They also took the lock as they cut through the bike shed the lock was attached to. I'm guessing they done that as the lock would have taken too long to cut through. Other bikes were stolen that night & there cheap locks were cut & left on the floor.Great lock, probably the best out there. Just remember though a good lock is only as good as what you lock it to.

Works well! Easy to use, large! But it being large is a downside too, I could not get it to mount on my bike nicely/without it being in the way, so now I just have to carry it in a bag behind my bike instead. Other than that though, it's a great product so far. Seems very very sturdy, difficult to cut through, even though I've heard that people have cut them...hope it doesn't happen to me!

Thieves broke into our garage and attempted to steal my bike, taking a pair of long handled lopping shears to the U-Lock(and a cycloc). The U-lock (and cycloc) withstood the attempt, although the cycloc had to be replaced afterwards as the thieves damaged it to the extent that it no longer supported the bike. The lopping shears were also written off!!

Seems to be a very tough lock, it is heavy but what do you want, if you need a tough lock it needs to be heavy, doesn't fit on my frame not even close you would need at least a 27" frame to attach it to. Haven't had it long so can't comment on the usage but the build quality appears to be very good. 4 stars because of the weight and size.

I purchased this lock to provide better than average security for my bike. The product package was opened/damaged but the product was like new. The mount was missing but a call to Uptown Bicycles and a new mount was issued and received within a week at no charge; very nice and professional. Will buy again and you should too.

Bought as a present for our son who cycles to the station every day. So far the bike has always been there on his return, and it is quick and easy to use. He says the size / weight of it is not an issue as it clips neatly within the bike frame profile, and as his ride does not involve hills, the weight is unnoticeable.

This is a good solid lock. It feels right too. I have no complaints about it at all. There is a good online key replacement policy that works also for the UK, unlike that of some other lock makers. Key online registeration is advised after purchase, so that online key orders are simplified.
