A very good, interactive card game with heavy resource management. In short, you share a deck of common cards from which to build buildings, whilst also having your own deck based on your civilisation - which are nicely thematic. You use resources you gather to build these buildings which give you a variety of benefits at a variety of times (when you build, each round, when you activate, when you do something specific). Resources are gained by "razing" your own cards or building certain buildings or "making deals" (dedicating a card to obtain that resource each round). Over five rounds you build up you "common" structures and, generally, then overbuild them into your more valuable civ specific structures. However, common structures can be "razed" (destroyed) by your opponents if they have enough "swords" - this leaves a foundation in place for you to build over and you also get some wood, so it is not all bad news, however. As you build your civilisation up, you amass victory points from your cards and most VP is the winner. Also worth mentioning the fact the game can be played solo - the designer has even made available an online campaign sheet you can follow to make it more engaging - and this works very well.If I had one complaint it would be that perhaps the game goes on one round too long - four (in my opinion) would be better than five rounds - and in fact the solo campaign rules do use only four rounds.

Great game, although we've only played two player so far I can foresee many many more plays. Just a few quibbles. I think the inlay could be better designed to hold future expansion cards and factions, similar to the "Dominon" card game insert. Also, the Roman faction is extremely weak in my opinion, neither of us has been able to win playing as them; they seem to ramp up way too slowly. The artwork is fantastic and the card quality is top notch, I would recommend this game for purchase for two players.

Feels like settlers but the fighting element begins much quicker than in the PC game (I have only vague memories so please forgive me if you think otherwise). Good gameplay mechanics, nice quality of components. Good game.

A great version of 51st State. I've never been a fan of the Neuroshima theme, and this one slaps a nice colourful skin over the game, as well as making it more streamlined, easier to teach, and more fun to play.

Me and my husband keep playing it and enjoy it every time. Great for 2 people. The set up is quick, takes not more than 45 mins so it's perfect for us. I'm planning to get the expansions as well.
