UPDATE August 2015:Going on 2 years using this product on a total of about 10 trips. I've added some aluminum foil as a wind shield and keep either salt and pepper packets or Starbucks VIA packets in there depending on the situation. Once, I had this on a beach trip and the power went out first thing in the morning. Everyone was miserable because they couldn't make coffee. I whipped out the Soloist and fired up some VIA for a few takers and saved the morning. Doing this in front of non-campers makes you look like a hero. (or a crazy prepper)I find that cooking products requiring only boiling water to work best, such as Idahoan Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes (fantastic), and pastas. It's easier to clean that way, but I have heated up chilis and stews. If heating something thick, just be sure to use lowest heat and stir almost constantly. This will avoid burning on the bottom.Starbucks VIA is by far the easiest way to make a coffee and tastes great for an instant coffee. I used to use a french press, but no more. This Soloist handles all my eating needs from my morning coffee and oatmeal (raisin date and walnuts is great camping oatmeal), to my late night hot chocolate for dessert (good old fashion Swiss Miss tastes good enough in the wilderness). My cheap $10 ultralight stove is still going strong, and the small MSR fuel cans seem to last a long time. I can easily use only one can over a 4 day trip. It's been awhile since I've researched the newest products, but the Soloist is definitely a winner in my book.ORIGINAL REVIEW December 2013:Tried it for first time on a 4 day camping trip. I think it's enough for one big eater, or 2 lighter eaters. At only 145 pounds, I don't need huge meals like most of the camper bloggers talk about. I'm not throwing back 2000 calorie meals at a time, BUT this setup can handle it. It's fun to unpack in front of people that have never seen one before. It's very impressive how well thought out it is. Everything you need for a few days of cooking can be stored in it, minus the food itself.I washed out an old Mio bottle (the water flavoring stuff), and put Olive oil in it. I'm able to keep, fuel, the burner, and oil for cooking all inside this thing. There is still a little room left over for something else, maybe spices.I used the smaller fuel tanks and a china-made cheapo burner from Amazon. Love it.I beat myself up for a month trying to decide on this style cooker, or an all-in-one style like the JetBoil. After a ton of research, I decided that this works better for me, because I can be in full control of heat, and actually COOK foods in the pot. I can heat up a chili, or a pasta sauce without worrying about burning it too much. The JetBoils, from what I've gathered, are too high on heat, making them great for water boiling fast and efficient, but bad for a thick sauce. If everything you eat is "just add water", then get a JetBoil. If you want versatility, and want to cook things, get this.

I've been using this cook set for my Appalachian Trail thru-hike with great success. I don't use the spoon that comes with - I do use the cup, cook pot, cup, coozie, and the lid which works for both the pot and cup. I use it in conjunction with a Trangia alcohol stove with HEET for fuel.I don't like to wash pots when hiking so I just use the cook set to boil water for my hot beverage (coffee in the morning; hot chocolate at night) and for my food which I mix with hot water in a freezer bag inside the coozie. The coozie is my favorite piece of the set. It keeps the food nice and hot after mixing with hot water and holds the hot freezer bag for me when I'm eating so I don't burn my hands. The cup has little lines etched inside so you can measure the volume of water you are using which is a nice feature. This cook set is light and very packable. I store my Trangia alcohol stove, fire starter and dish towel in the pot while hiking. This makes for one very packable kitchen.I get to watch other hikers cook every night using all sorts of cooking gear. I have not seen anything else that I would even remotely want over the GSI Soloist other than the GSI Dualist if you are cooking for two.You cannot go wrong with this cook set. Just buy it.

There are a few things I like about this. It's size is perfect for fuel (4oz), MSR PocketRocket, bic lighter, Mug/Bowl and foon. The foon might be a bit flimsy but I do use it and it does work well as long as your careful not to put too much strain on it. I keep a longer titanium spork slid into the side of the bag in the event my foon breaks. The weight is only slightly more than my old REI Titanium 2 liter (No longer made) but I camp/Hike alone so the 1.1 liter is more practical and grips better on my PocketRocket as it sits in the grips and not sliding around on top as my much wider RSI pot did (Yes, I spilled my food more than once due to the sliding off)I'm a bit OCD when it comes to packing my gear efficiently so I love this kit! A few bonuses about this over my old REI pot is hat it has a very sturdy handle that clips in place (Instead of the free floating double handle) a strainer built into the lid. I like the bag that works as a kitchen wash station. When using an 8oz fuel container I don't pack it in the pot but put my titanium coffee cup in instead.

Great cook set. I've used this cook set on many occasions, camping, blackouts, everyday cooking. The welded stuff sack is well made and easy to clean. I've used it as a dish washing sack before without issues. The pot is ultra sturdy and also easy to clean. It's only use for me is to boil water for my Mountain House meals, so I only have to wash the exterior of the pot after cooking on my MSR Whisperlite. I accidentally melted the rubber handle coating, but no other issues! The bowl and sleeve are great. I've used it for coffee, grits, and oatmeal. Real easy to clean in the stuff sack. The Sip-it lid fits well on the pot, but does not lock in. So when tipping the pot, hold the lid if you're straining and pouring. When using the lid on the bowl, it locks in with a small push. Also, the lid has not deformed since I've bought it.The spork is easily collapsible and sturdy, but I barely use it. I have a titanium spork that I always use. Just a preference. Now, in the picture for the cook set: What is that yellow thing in the mug/bowl?

Just got my Pinnacle Soloist kit, already tried it out and I love it! First off, this kit is incredibly light and well made. The DuPont Teflon really keeps rail packs from sticking to it. It was really easy to clean and get all the food out of the pot. Once I finished making my meal, I poured it into the mug/bowl, which worked great since the insulating layer keeps the food warm and my hands from getting burnt. When I had to clan I used the sink pack. It was a little difficult since the pot and the sink are a snug fit and the pot handle gets in the way when trying to clean, but this is still a very convenient addition to the kit. All in all I am very happy. The fact that my burner and fuel canister are able to fit into the kit is really great and useful for organization in my pack. Cant wait to use it on the trail!

This coolest is perfect for outdoor cooking on backpacking trips as it is super light, compact and convenient. I used it this weekend on an overnight backpacking trip in the high desert and cooked meals and made tea. It was very easy to clean afterward and worked perfectly with my Gigapower Auto Stove. The spork/utensil is a little flimsy and awkward but I learned you just have to make sure it locks into the fully extended position before trying to use it and it works fine. We'll see how long the utensil holds up; I'd bring a backup in case it breaks. The insulated mug was perfect for hot tea and the main pot fit perfectly on my stove and boiled water in no time.I highly recommend this cookset in general for backpacking and even car camping.

This is a great cook set for camping or backpacking. When I'm on the trail I can pack the cup, my fuel canister, and burner inside the pot. So it not only allows you to heat an adequate amount of water for a meal but also allows you lightweight space saving storage. Which is a backpackers best friend. The interior coating is extremely easy to clean. Food particles do not get stuck even if you accidentally burn a bit of food in the bottom of your pot. The collapsible spork is fairly useless though. Its too flimsy to stir a meal with and food gets stuck inside the sliding portion that allow it to collapse.Despite the spork I still give this pot 5 stars because every other aspect of the cook set is outstanding.

First, let me say I also own & use the GSI Minimalist tiny 0.6 L pot, which at 5 oz, meets my ultralight needs just fine. I bought the Soloist for sea kayaking trips where I usually fix more elaborate meals, or the group needs multiple pots to cook in. At 11 oz., it's a bit too heavy for ultralight trips. I would have given the Soloist 5 stars instead of 4, except for the flimsy plastic spork which also seemed gimmicky to several other reviewers. Other than that, both pots are extremely easy to clean without soap or pads due to the non stick surface & have held up well after lots of use.

This is the perfect little lightweight cookset for backpacking. I can fit a small JetBoil-type fuel canister, my SnowPeak giga stove, a lighter and a small dish sponge in addition to everything that comes with the cook set. So far, I've only boiled water in it, but the plastic cup was also great for measuring water and making oatmeal (the dual purpose lid was handy for locking in the heat to let the oatmeal firm up)The pot is a little tall and narrow so I don't know that I'd do much other than boil water or noodles in it. I'd be afraid of burning anything if I tried to cook in it.

This cookset was exactly what I expected and hoped for. Lightweight, durable, and nets inside itself to pack down small. It also heats up water quick...2 cups in 7 minutes with my DIY alcohol stove. You'll see people complain about the included spork, but it worked just fine with the dehydrated meals I had.One word of caution, be careful about the handle placement. I melted a small portion of mine when my stove flared up a bit, but that's my own stupidity!Might not work for "ultra lightweight" folks, but for the occasional weekend backpacker, it works like a charm!

I was looking for a solution that was simple and elegant. Having messed about putting different products from different companies together I'd put together a system I was happy enough with. However, having searched high and low I couldn't find better than this. I had a GSI mug, which slipped straight in giving me even more options. This, in my mind, is easily the best set up for solo cooking on single or multi day adventures. the quality of the components is at the highest, apart from the weird spork thing but even that has proven useful and not broken.

I just got back from using this for three straight days and it performed very well. A standard fuel can and stove will fit in it, and it comes with a nice cloth pouch for your stove. That was an unexpected nice touch. My only nitpick: I wish it had markings for volume inside the pot (either ounces or cups would be fine). You can fix this with a Sharpie and marking known amounts of water before your trip. Something I wish I had done before my last trip.Overall, a very nice product, which will go with me on all my overnight trips from now on.

When I pulled this out of the box I knew it was perfect. Its ultra light weight. There is plenty of room when packed for my gas canister and a pack stove. The cups are large enough to make a fairly large meal. Two people shared a meal out of this. And they heat up and hold heat for an amazing long time. Trust me when I say I have bought cheeper ones and hated them. So don't waist your money like I did buying and experimenting with less expensive ones . Cut to the chase and just buy this one. You'll be so much more happy with it

A great little cooking set. I love the cooking pot the most as it can hold quite a lot and is easly cleaned. Also nice that the handle locks out and also back over the lid to create a secure unit. The spork is a bit rubbish but other than that a great little kit. This is ideal for a 230 gram gas canister (buy the right ones as some a slightly bigger I have found) Then all you need is a MSR Micro rocket and your cooking solution is compact and functional :)

This set is super-well designed and sturdy, and it'll get lots of use. GSI goes the extra mile to include such design features as making the carry bag waterproof to serve as a sink and including a collapsible spork. The sip/strain feature in the lid is great too. These details set set this cook set apart from the rest. Highly recommend GSI cook sets!
