The mug arrived undamaged today. It is lightweight. It is sturdy (all components - cup, cover, and lid). The lid fits the mug snuggly and the spout cover is secure when engaged (it also secures in to open position so you won’t have it falling on your nose when you take a drink). It keeps a full mug of water heated to a remarkably acceptable temperature after one hour!!I conducted a little test to see what the temperature would be after one hour. My process was to heat the water in a kettle until the steam whistled. I poured the water into the mug, put the lid on it, and inserted the Thermapen probe into the hot cup of water. I set the timer on my phone, took a picture, and walked away.Note: The initial temperature was 202.7°F, but by the time I had set the timer and photographed the Thermapen in the cup it dropped to the 201.9°F shown in the photo. After one hour I photographed it again. The temperature was at a respectable 148°F. The ambient temperature inside my house during this test was 71°F.I cannot comment on lasting durability, leaching, etc. because I have not used it beyond this temperature retention test. However, I bought it to keep my coffee or tea hot while hiking so I’m satisfied that goal will be accomplished.1/27/21 Update: Having used this mug a half dozen times I thought I’d provide additional information. There is a slight leaching of odors. I’ve used the mug for coffee and hot chocolate. The coffee odor is noticeable, but there was not noticeable taste of coffee when drinking hot chocolate (or vice versa).

I bought this when I wasn't paying attention on Amazon, I guess I didn't notice it in my cart. It showed up as a surprise, and I don't regret it at all.It insulates as well as I would assume it should for just having a little insulating fabric on the outside, the biggest thing that stands out to me is that the cup and fabric holder are separate pieces, so you can flip the handle to whatever side you want by rotating the cup (or lid)The lid secures fairly well, more than I assumed it would, it kind of seems like it just sits there, but it is leak proof, I'm assuming not as well if it were dropped but I haven't tested it that way.The first time I was using it I filled it with coffee and got into my car on my way to work,I knew it wouldn't fit in my cup holders so I set it on the armrest. I get to work ten minutes later and can't find it! Turns out while I was driving my arm bumped it and it fell on my back in the seat, I quick check my jacket and it's dry and the flip top lid is still secure. Not sure that I would trust dropping it on the floor, but it stayed sealed for that. All in all my only real complaints are that the lid just slips in and doesn't go that far into the cup, and the fact that the measurement numbers are backwards, so if you look through the cup you can read it, but looking at it directly the numbers are backwards, I'm sure there's probably a reason behind it but I'm not sure.

Like everyone else, I have used a metal cup that went around my Nalgene or my cookset. The problem with that cup is that it doesn't retain heat and my coffee gets cold to fast. Yes, I can boil water in a metal cup, but I have never used it for that, as I always boil water in my cookset. I was originally looking for a screw top cup that I could use to cold soak and or put Minute Rice into and let it reconstitute while I hiked.I stumbled upon this and I also bought the GSI Fairshare mug with a screw top. The GSI mug is way to big and bulky.I used the Infinity Backpacker mug instead. I loved how light it is and especially like the built in koozie with handle.I slap it on my D-ring and can carry that way or just stash it in my water bottle pocket. The best part of this cup is it's lid.It seals air tight. You can't even close the lid unless you first open the drinking hole cap in order to allow air to escape. Once you open the sipping cover the lid tightly snaps into place.I tested this by filling it 3/4 with water and shaking it vigorously, dropping it and turning it upside numerous times, not a drop. This mug is great! I still have the metal camp cup because I won't be cool if I don't have something to nest my Nalgene into, but I'm using this mug now for everything from morning coffee, afternoon cold soak to evening wine.Great design and quality.

I got this for a backpacking trip, in addition to my cook set, so I would have something to make coffee in (I have a little filter apparatus). It worked great. It is VERY lightweight. The insulating sleeve comes off easily, but isn't so loose it falls off. I clipped the handle on my backpack when I left camp each morning and hiked all day without any issues whatsoever. I like that it's easy to take the sleeve off, because on cold mornings I warmed my hands on my hot coffee, and then put the sleeve back on to keep the coffee warm while I finished drinking it.The lid is also totally leak proof, which was great for one morning I didn't finish my coffee, but decided to take it with me - no leaks at all.I also used it as a sort of tupperware container when I made more food than I could eat one evening. Stuck my leftover mashed potatoes and refried beans in it, put the lid on and rolled it all up in a dry bag with my other food, and hung it all on a bear cable. Took it down and ate it for breakfast the next morning. Perfect.Plus, when I got home from my trip, I just took the plastic cup and lid and threw them in the dishwasher. Super easy.Highly recommend, especially for backpacking.

I was looking for a new camping mug as my old MEC mug started leaking out from under the lid every time I would take a sip. It had served me well for many years and miles but needed to be replaced. MEC didn’t seem to carry anything similar anymore but I stumbled upon this GSI product instead. As an ounce counter this mug fully aligns with my ultralight philosophy clocking in at a miserly three and a half ounces (99 grams). The cozy ensures hot beverages stay hot for longer periods of time while also protecting your hands from the hot contents. The measurements listed on the inside of the mug are extremely helpful when preparing a pre-packaged freeze dried meal. Finally, at a measly $12.95 (at time of purchase)this mug doesn’t kill the budget. Oh there’s less expensive camping mugs out there, but they don’t carry all of the great features of this GSI mug (for example, they’re heavier, or don’t have a lid, or no measurements indicators, and so on and so forth). All in all this a great mug for the typical backpacker or camper. Happy with the purchase and I would recommend this product.* Helpful votes always appreciated *

Should be 5 stars, but I only bought it as I was unable to track down/obtain a spare sealing ring for my older version, so a wee fail from GSI in the replacement parts category. I've had the older version of the infinity for about 2 years, best hiking/wild camping mug I've ever had, lightweight, cheap as chips, easily cleaned and takes a decent beating (as long as you put the ring seal somewhere safe when cleaning it...). It's not a thermal mug, but it does keep your brew piping hot for a lot longer (easily 20/30mins) than a TI mug or normal cup, I tend to have a brew on the go when breaking camp and can continue drinking it after the start of the days walk, I often have to take the lid off just to let it cool down a bit. It's got quite a large capacity, 1 1/2 sachets of cup a soup works perfectly. This version seems heavier than the old one, my old one weighs in at 99g, the new one was 106g , not a deal breaker for me though. All in a great mug, I'm actually debating on getting a couple more for a rainy day. Side point - I got it cheaper on Amazon with free postage from the US than I could find it in the UK, crazy.

I love this mug. I use it camping, backpacking, and around the office. The plastic mug can be removed from the canvas sleeve and has graduated markings to indicate volume. The canvas outer shell is very insulating. While some commenters have identified the handle as a weak point, the canvas sufficiently shields the hand that you can grip the mug and bypass the handle without getting burned (handle could be more efficiently viewed as a hanging loop). It radiates enough heat to warm the hand in cold, but not cause pain. The lid fits very well and has maintained waterproof for travel. With the mug, hot drinks remain deliciously warm for about 45 minutes. I haven't had problems with the plastic slipping out,but I also put it in my pack so YMMV. Sounds like there are some good hacks on this site.TL; DR I love this mug and use it in all life domains. I have bought 3 more for friends that are campers, commuters, and/or people who appreciate a rugged mug.

I've had the GSI Solist set for a while. Recently I found the bowl/cup in the set was cracked. I wanted to replace it with something more like a cup. I orderd this mug not knowing if it would fit inside the Soloist pot. While waiting for the mug to arrive GSI told me they were going to send me a replacement bowl for mine that cracked.I got the mug and found it fits perfectly in the Sololist pot and nests inside the bowl. You can then store things inside the mug, and you can also fit a few small things that fold around the outside of the mug as well, like a thing wash cloth for dishes. My folding stove fits inside the mug as well as the folding foon (spork) as well as a few other small items. You won't be able to fit your fuel canister inside it any more , but that's not an issue for me.The mug itself is great, good size and lightweight. With GSI's lifetime guaranty you can't go wrong for only 10 bucks.

I wanted a mug I could keep at my desk at work without being afraid of dropping and breaking it, that'd be easy to clean and would keep my coffee warm a little longer than a standard ceramic mug, and then bring home on the weekends for some backpacking. This mug exceeds expectations! It weights nothing, has the backpacker aesthetic I was looking for, and keeps my drinks warmer longer (as noted, it's NOT an insulated mug. But for the weight I'd argue you can't get much better). I haven't tried backpacking with it yet, but it seems well suited for backcountry use.My only complaint is that after two weeks of heavy use (2-3 hot drinks a day, taking it out of the sleeve after each one to rinse out),the measurement indicators are starting to smudge off of the cup onto the inside of the sleeve. Honestly, I don't even think this deserves a whole star off, but I can't do partial stars. 4.9 out of 5!

I have been looking for a backpacking mug that was short, had a lid, and inexpensive. This mug fit all the right characteristics for me. The best part was the measurements it has on the inside which was definitely a plus for me! I mostly use a mug like this for my oatmeal or other food that I can have steam inside the mug with the lid on. It's been perfect for food and for drinks, especially for the MRE electrolyte powder or Nuun tablets that I need 8 or 16 oz of water.I do have to admit that this is not insulated to keep coffee or tea warm for long periods of time. It's basically a plastic cup with a thin foam over it. The insulated cover does slip off the inside cup so I would not recommend hanging it from a backpack.Overall though, this cup does everything I need it do and I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I look forward to using this when I'm camping and backpacking everytime.

Nice light, lightly insulated mug. I bought this to replace a GSI Glacier cup. When making hot beverages the GSI would get uncomfortably hot and the handles were a bit awkward. This mug doesn't have any of those problems. It is also about 30 grams lighter. On my scale it weighed in at 117 grams but it did have a tiny amount of water soaked into the sleeve. The lid seams to seal just fine for accidental spills. I wouldn't transport liquid in it on or in my pack but it does hold water upside down. It has a nice rubber base to keep it from sliding around. The two cup capacity and the graduation marks on the inside are a great bonus.About 95% of the food I cook outdoors require 2 cups of water making this a perfect measuring cup.The cup does slide out of the sleeve fairly easily. I plan to craft a small bungee to keep the cup and lid in place when attached to the outside of my pack.

This is even lighter than I expected, and it's the perfect size for my purposes. It's great how it has the volumetric markings inscribed so you can see them inside the mug (with the sleeve on).It feels nice and durable so I'm not worried about it falling apart anytime soon. I even ripped off its tag in my excitement and managed to send the little flippy mouthpiece part flying. But it just snapped right back in place without a scratch anywhere!I just bought this for backpacking but this is prolly gunna be my new daily mug to be honest. It'll match perfectly with my insulated nalgene I carry the rest of the time! One note is that I selected the green picture that reads "red" in the actual option box.Mine is green. And the green is a better color than the picture in my opinion so no love lost there.

This is one of my favorite backpacking items lately. I’ve always used those enamelware mugs for camping, but wanted something a little nicer this year. This definitely keeps beverages warmer longer, and I love that the lid has a good seal and doesn’t spill. Furthermore, it doubles as a measuring device if you need to measure water for food preparation. It’s also proven great for use with the sea to summit pour over coffee dripper I’ve been using. Just slip it out of the sleeve and since the inner part is see-through, you can easily see when the coffee is done. I’ve been putting a ziploc bag of my favorite ground coffee and some sugar and creamer packets inside for storage, then caribinig it to my pack.I love this mug, it’s such a simple but invaluable upgrade if you enjoy trail coffee.

This product is going to get mixed reviews and it has. Your happiness with this product depends on your goal. If you want your beverage hot for hours, you will not be happy. If you want an ultralight, not going to leak easily cup for backpacking, you will be happy with this. The material is thin, but does not soften when boiling water is poured in. The cup is insulated (via material and outside cover), but not like a hydroflask. Heat does escape, seems more quickly than a regular ceramic mug, but usually on a trip, Iʻm not sitting around for 45 minutes sipping coffee. I want my warm liquids or oatmeal then want to get movin and without burning my mouth so some heat loss is useful. Iʻm not a fan of lids, but the lid works fine and may keep the beverage warmer longer.

I bought three of these mugs, all different colors, and use them with my kids and I when we go camping. They love them as do I. They are not an insulated thermos but they do hold in the heat much better than a normal mug. And the covers stayed on very well for us and came off easily when I wanted to clean the cup insert. They are a good size so you have more than enough room for an extra large hot chocolate or other drink or even a soup. The lids are not form a perfect seal but it is very good, much better then is needed for normal use. I wouldn't hold a cup of hot coffee upside down above my head mind you but I would feel comfortable running around a camp site with the lid on a hot drink. These will be coming with me on all my camping trips from now on.
