This is an excellent lens. Some argue it is the sharpest in the entire Fuji X lens line-up, and MTF charts suggest that could be the case. It is solidly built, has the faster kind of linear AF motor, and a fast wide open aperture of f2, which means you can expect good low light performance and lots of background blur. The quality of out of focus areas (bokeh) is excellent. My experience with this lens is that it works great as an outdoor portrait lens -it equates to a 135mm focal length in terms of 35mm full frame equivalence. This makes it good for outdoor portraiture as a mid-telephoto focal length. It is on the long side for indoor or studio work, where the 56mm f1.2 would be preferable. The lens has quite a long barrel and balances best on an X-T or X-H body in my experience – not so well on an X-E style body (I have not tried it on an X-Pro body). For many Fuji users they may be faced with a choice – go for the 56mm f1.2 (in either its regular or APD versions) or this 90mm f2. All three lenses are superb for portraits – razor sharp with lovely bokeh and a delicate colour rendition. In my experience the 56mm f1.2 has a bit more of that Fujinon magic about the images it renders, whereas I find the 90mm f2 a bit more cold and clinical in the way it renders portraits, although they remain superbly sharp. The 90mm is also bigger and heavier and doesn’t balance well on the smaller, lighter Fuji bodies. One final word of warning – focus needs to be spot on and you need to watch out that you don’t get caught out by the potentially very narrow depth of field when shooting this lens wide open.

I have had the Fujifilm 90mm f/2 lens for around 9 months and it has become my favourite lens, which I generally use on my X-H1. The equivalent full frame spec would be 137mm, with a depth of field of f/3.1 due to the 1.5x crop. The build quality is excellent and it is weather sealed. Because it is a APS-C prime lens, it isn't too big and heavy and I can easily carry around the X-H1 and lens for a few hours and have no problems. It I do have a slightly complaint, it is that you can accidentally change the aperture, a little too easily if you brush the aperture ring but that is about it.The AF is very good, with the main limitation being the AF ability of the camera.Optically, it is a great lens. The lens is sharp, has great contrast and micro contrast. It has very little and doen't suffer from much vignetting. The bokah is really nice and whilst you are not quite getting the same depth of field as a 135mm f/2, that really doesn't bother me because it handled so well. It actually has a similar look to the Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2, which is a compliment. As you can tell I really recommend this lens if you are a Fujifilm user. It pretty much does everything right and I can't recommend it highly enough.

well, everything has been said on this lens. It is excellent both optically and mechanically. The micro-contrast is amazing and the sharpness excellent if you manage to work with the incredibly narrow depth of field, when used at maximum aperture and minimum focusing distance. The aperture ring is much firmer than on the 23mm, and definitely wont shift accidentally. I removed a start for two reasons: the autofocus is fast but definitely not as fast as lets say the Canon 135f2.L. It is not unusual to get focus hunt and the focusing scale is quite large, and there is no focus distance limiter switch. The second reason is the loose focusing module when the lens is switched of: is it normal, but it make the lens feel fragile. It may never be a problem, but moving parts is a potential source of failure.

I have , luckily , owned different lenses from Fujifilm, including the highly acclaimed 16 mm 1.4, 35mm f2, 56mm 1.2, 18-55mm and absolutely loved them. Then, I bought the X100F after recent release and sold all the lenses to simplify my choices, so now I have a long lens, the XF 90mm and a short one 23mm f2, on the x100F. The 90 mm is heavy and you need a steady hand and a fast shutter speed, so I am, in a way, looking at reasons to dismiss it, but the 2 things that any lens should do, focus acquisition and SHARPNESS, there is no rival, in my opinion! I am also comparing this with my beloved 105mm micro from Nikkor, 50mm1.4 Nikon, 24-70mm f2.8 Nikon, etc. This lens simply is the sharpest lens I got my hands on,by far!

Brilliant lens. If you are after a no compromise portrait lens come no further. Sharp at f2 across the frame with excellent build quality. Don't be alarmed by the clunking as the quad linear motors are powered by magnets that disenagage when the camera is off. This lens has excellent close focusing for semi-macro stuff however combined with one of the MCEX-11/16 tubes becomes a macro beast in its own right. Currently glued to my camera. Yes the 56mm f1.2 has better low light performance, and a more practical focal length. However you don't get weather resistant and the lens compression brought with this telephoto prime. Attached some examples when paired with the MCEX-11 and some portraits.

quite simply this is one of the best lenses I've ever used. its my most used Fujifilm lens. its an exception long portrait lens (137mm @35mm equivalent). the lens is one of if not the fastest to focus on the fuji system. it also has a short minimum focus distance, meaning you are able to focus close of subjects such as flowers and insects. so this isn't just an excellent portrait lens. the lens is quite large for a fuji lens -but i find it comfortable and easy to use. the f2 aperture allows for beautiful out portraits with a creamy background. its a wonderful, well built lens.

One of the problems with moving from a full frame DSLR to a camera with a crop sensor is that you lose narrow depth of field, however this is one lens which certainly delivers on that possibility with it's full frame 135mm equivalent focal length and wide aperture. Razor sharp, and pretty short and relatively lightweight, certainly a better alternative to the 50-140 if you ask me. Gets a top recommendation from me.

This is a stellar piece of glass that I struggle to take off my camera. The sharpness is extraordinary and the bokeh at max aperture is beautiful. Whenever I'm shooting portraits I love using this lens.I also have the 56mm f/1.2 and the 50-140mm f/2.8, which both take magnificent headshots... but somehow I keep going back to this 90mm. Awesome!

Simply a superb lens. Sharp across the frame, incredibly sharp in the centre. Very fast and silent autofocus. Build quality and feel are top notch with a beautifully damped focus ring, full metal barrel and weather-sealing. Another great Fujifilm lens.

This lens is amazing. I have the 56 1.2 but this is a great lens for portraits in larger open spaces whereas I use the 56 1.2 in tighter areas. Great for getting natural shots where you are further away than with the 56 1.2

Fab portrait lens - super fast but quite a heavy piece of glass. Quality of results are superb

10.6.2018

It is arguably one of the best portrait lenses of all the manufacturers.

21.12.2016

Maybe the best lens I have gotten ever..Highly recommended.

25.1.2020
