Before I give my opinion on this fine lens, it might help others if I explain a bit about how I ended up coming to the conclusion that this is perhaps (it's early days) the best lens I've ever used.I've been a Canon shooter for years, initially as a hobby documenting my family growing up and eventually turning into a career. I shoot weddings and recently commercial/PR events. My main camera has been a 5D Mark III for the last couple of years, and I own most of Canon's finest lenses. I prefer primes, and I own the usual focal lengths (35mm, 50mm and 85mm L versions), but I also have the 16-35L ii, 24-70L ii and 70-200L ii. I have a pretty sweet collection of Canon's finest lenses.A while ago I began to realise that, perhaps due to my seeing the Canon and bag-full of lenses as "work things" and partly because my back was getting knackered from years of carrying them around, I wasn't bringing my camera with me on family outings as much. The whole reason I got into photography was to document my family life, so I needed to do something about it.At around that time Fuji had released the X100, so I bought one and fell in love with it in some (many) ways, but ultimately it was just a bit too slow to cope with taking photos of my hyperactive offspring. I sold it and resigned myself to a life of carting a DSLR around on family outings in between trips to the chiropractor.Skip forward a year or two and I borrowed a friend's X-T1 and the XF 35mm 1.4. I immediately loved the camera. The lens didn't immediately grab me as much, perhaps because I was used to how a 50mm f/1.4 looked (the equivalent on the 5D I was used to) looked, but I knew there and then that I loved the Fuji mirrorless system, so I bought one along with the 23mm f/1.4 and the 56mm f/1.2.I used the X-T1 with those two lenses initially as my "fun" camera setup, with my wheely case full of full frame Canon gear being my workhorse equipment. Until one day I brought the Fuji and those two spectacular lenses along to a wedding gig. I pretty much used them all day long, until the evening dancefloor action when I needed flash. Since then I've found myself using that same Fuji setup for the majority of the day on a handful of weddings, with my bag of Canon gear sitting there looking rather sorry for itself.I'd pretty much made the decision to move over to using a Fuji system as my main set of equipment, but the rumours of the X-T2 coming out soon sealed the deal. I'm on board. If anyone shooting weddings is in any doubt as to whether they would be taking a step back from using a 5D Mark III (standard equipment for most Canon wedding photographers), just search Google for "Fuji X Wedding". There are some people out there doing incredible work with these little cameras.Anyway, that was quite a longwinded, totally off topic ramble.I've always been a prime shooter, but the widest I'd ever used was the 35mm on the full frame Canon system, always using the 24-70 2.8 or 16-35 2.8 for wider shots. I never got on with them as I tend to work with available light, but I could never justify buying a the Canon 24mm 1.4 as it was so crazy expensive, and the 24-70 ii was soooooooo sharp. However, with a widest aperture of 2.8 it often wasn't fast enough to deliver the goods when I wanted those wide shots in low light (bridal prep, first dance when not using off camera flash etc).I decided to give the Fuji XF 16mm 1.4 a go. It arrived yesterday. Already I'm pretty much decided that this, alongside the X-T1, is my favourite camera/lens combination for the way I shoot. It is as sharp as any Canon L lens I've used, perhaps shaper than anything other than the 24-70 L ii, and the way it renders out of focus areas is simply sublime. I didn't expect there to be a huge difference between a crop sensor 16mm 1.4 lens and a full frame 24mm f/2.8, but there most definitely is, at least with this lens. You get that "prime pop", but with a wide field of view. Somehow it seems to blur out the background better than it should do.I don't know how they've done it, but Fuji have created what I consider to be one of the finest prime lenses out there. For "documentary wedding photography", whatever that is, it is perfect. Likewise as a family-man's lens, it's perfect.I love every Fuji lens I own, but after just two days of shooting I know this is my favourite. I absolutely adore it.As soon as the X-T2 is released I'll be buying two of them and selling all of my Canon gear, using the 16mm, 23mm, 35mm and 56mm for my work and personal photography. All of that can fit into a standard sized rucksack. Plus I'll be saving about £60 a month on chiropractor bills. Winning.Fuji - I salute you.

Having been a keen photographer for most of my life with the occasional foray into large format for industrial work and everything in between, I have been able to test many marques of camera bodies and great lenses. I have always defaulted to prime lenses as I find the laziness from using zoom lenses kills my creativity and very rarely produces the quality of the primes. My focal lengths of choice are full frame 24mm, 35mm, 85mm and my personal favourite the old Nikon 105mm f2.5 (fabulous). However I loved the Fuji design and ethos when it was released and eventually took the plunge selling all my Nikon full frame digital gear. What a great decision. This 16mm f1.4 is my latest acquisition and I am stunned by the quality of the images. As you can crop to 100% with virtually no loss of sharpness it is the lens that. if I am limited to taking just one with me on a shoot, it will be the one. Distortion, especially when shooting jpeg, is well controlled in camera and virtually invisible. I love the snap back manual focus ring on this as well as the 23mm, as it make for fast action response to any situation. Just another word about the quality of the images and the dynamic range, it is better than the 56mm f1.2, just! It certainly matches the quality of the new 35mm f2 which I adore as well. Thank you Fuji for lightening my load, producing beautifully designed camera bodies with all the necessary controls to hand instead of being buried in wretched menus and releasing some of the finest optics I have seen for years. I can't wait to test the 23mm f2 when I get my hands on one.

If you like primes, have a Fuji X series camera, and you're looking for a wide lens, I think you'll like this lens a lot. It is my favourite lens.I moved from a DSLR, to the X100, then the X100T, before deciding that I wanted more lens selection and moving to the X-Pro 2.Because I was used to the compact X100 series, my first lens for the XP2 was the 35mm F2, which is a really excellent lens. However, I wanted a wider lens for ringside boxing shots, and property shots.First I tried the 16-55 f2.8, which I didn't like at all. The lens is fantastic, but it is huge and I don't really like using zooms.I returned the zoom immediately and tried the 16mm F1.4, hoping I'd like it.Happily I liked it a lot from the first shoot. It is twice the size of the 35 F2, but half the size of the 16-55. It is comfortable to hold for long periods of time.I've shot portraits with this lens as well. I also use it in 1:1 aspect ratio a lot.It is very versatile and extremely sharp.I cannot say enough good things about this lens.I bought it when Fuji had a £80 cashback offer available, and they seem to regularly have similar offers.A fantastic lens and the one I most often use.

It has taken me a few months to get used to wide angle shooting. I have the 23mm F1.4, the 56mm F1.2 and the kit mid range and zoom lenses. So the wide angle angle was always going to be a welcome addition to my XF range for my XT2.I have to say, i now prefer using prime XF lenses. They are super sharp, great apature control and require some extra thinking around composition. These make for an enjoyable shooting experience with minimal time in Lightroom or Photoshop. The XF16mm F1.4 is truely amazing. The close focus distance, the incredibly sharp pictures across the entire frame and color rendition make this an ideal travel lens. It did take some time and also effort to adjust my shooting style, especially after basically sticking to the 23mm F1.4 focal range for 90% of my shots.I love the 16mm F1.4 and can only recommend this highly. If you have an XT2, this lens is a no brainer to add to a travel bag. I absolutely love the XF prime range. Please find some pictures below, all taken with the XF16mm F1.4.I bought this directly from amazon.uk. No issues with delivery.

I'm not an expert photographer so can't add that much to previous reviews. This lens is on my camera - Fuji XT2 - 95% of the time. It is amazing. The bokeh is fabulous. The F1.4 is so incredibly useful for indoor for all manner of things such as dark churches, buildings, night time etc. Don't think that 16mm is too wide either, it is a very useful FL. Does not have OIS but seriously, do you need that at 16mm???!!! I don't think so.... that's more for telephoto so please don't let that put you off.The tiniest of vignetting at F1.4 - see my beach photo above - but that is splitting hairs and easily processed out. All photos in my review are unprocessed jpegs from the RAW originals. You must be interested in this lens otherwise you wouldn't be reading these reviews. My advice to you, if you can afford the slightly heavy price tag, is to buy it! It is an amazing it now, you're going to anyway so why not now??? :)

For many years I used 28mm (e) prime lenses but have gradually migrated to a wider field of view. 24mm (e) has become a favourite for landscape shots, but most of the lenses for other systems tend to be slow f/2.8 types. Having moved to Fuji in recent years the availability of a f/1.4 16mm lens was a strong attraction.I've not been disappointed. The optical quality is exemplary, the ability to throw backgrounds out of focus (at a fairly close focusimg distance) is useful and the bokeh quality is pleasant. It's a little bit on the large side but not heavy, balancing very well on an X-Pro1 and XT1. Focus is fast and accurate on both bodies. It's fine on an XT10 as long as you use an accessory grip.Like many Fuji lenses it's pricey, but you know that when you buy into the system, and you get what you pay for. Highly recommended.

Beautifully built, this lens is almost flawless (if that exists). The focal length is very useful and the wide aperture makes it even more useful. The image quality is top notch as I expected, since all reviews highly recommended this lens. The focus is quick and nearly silent. This lens is glued to my camera (Fuji X-T2).The only downside I can see is that the lens is a bit big and heavy for the mirrorless standards but it balances nicely with the X-T2. No miracles can be done, this is a 16mm (24mm equivalent) f/1.4 lens. If you try to find the Full Frame lenses equivalent to this one you will get much bigger and heavier lenses.I can sincerely say that I'm used to the size and weight and don't find that to be problematic.Highly recommended!

This is one of my favourite lenses for the Fujifilm X system. It is a very versatile lens with a surprising minimum focus distance. It is very sharp, renders beautifully with excellent resolution and has accurate autofocus performance. The build quality of this lens is superb. The clicked aperture ring is smooth and offers just the right amount of resistance. The manual focus clutch is also reassuringly smooth and accurate. The only criticism this lens may attract is that the autofocus, while quiet, will be picked up by the internal or a camera attached shotgun microphone. If you don’t do video however, there is nothing to fault with this lens. 5/5

I'll start off by saying I'm not a wide angle shooter, I hate the distortion and general look you get with a wide lens. I bought this based on some compelling reviews. I can now verify that this is the best Fuji lens I've used by far, yes it's wide but the distortion is not noticeable at all!! You can focus so close, which means you have a very versatile lens. The lens is so sharp that cropping is NEVER an issue. If you can afford it - buy this lens. It's far better than the 23mm, focusing on par with the 35 F2. IQ on par with the 56. Excellent for landscapes, portraits, low light photography - this lens is fixed to my camera 95% of the time.

I am using this lens with the FUJI XT2 and oh my what a great lens on an equally amazing body. I wanted a lens which was capable of shooting relatively wide and this 16mm was a good compromise and equally for short focus throw it's great too being able to focus as close distance sold it for me. I've also invested in the additional metal hood for this lens which finishes off the kit nicely.

Using this on a Fuji xt-3, it is a delight!Very fast auto-focus for video it is brilliant, wide enough to get everything in, even up close but has very little lens distortion for a 16mm..if you were getting an XT3 for the first time and wanted an awesome prime, the 16mm would be the first i'd advise.. (followed by the 56 1.2 and then the 80mm macro.

Absolutely astounding lens. Balances really well with XT1. Fantastic build Quality. Equivalent to 24mm focal length in old money. Yes it's a bit pricey but you do get a lot of high quality glass with weather sealing. No cash back offered on this lens at time of posting. Attached three amateur shots for the pixel peepers.

16.8.2018

Well built, not as big as I thought it was going to be but that was a bonus. You can get very very close to subjects, so a sort of macro lens. Bought the square hood as well and it looks great with that attached. Overall a quality piece of kit for your Fuji camera, fun to use and of course super sharp and fast.

25.7.2017

Gives a smooth bokeh, gets up close (15 cm), is sharp - does everything a Fuji prime should do.A con would be the weight, it balances better on an xt-1 or xt-2 than a 10/20. But that's not a big issue.I took it out in quite dense drizzle and it held up well. It's pricy, but it delivers.

10.1.2018

this seems a great lens to me but not had the chance to fully test it out yet.I Tried to check for up dates with it on my Fujifilm XT-2 camera body but i got a yellow coded message saying update cancelled switch off camera..SO i need to sort that out before i do any further tests.
