I've used all sorts over the years to split wood, and this is the best product I have ever owned.Possibly slightly too long handled for me, I might have been better getting the X25 for my build, but adjusting your stance soon overcomes this.Splits new wood with ease, and the sharpener does keep the edge sharp, plus I even tried the knife function too on a kitchen knife to see how well it would work, and as with most Fiskars stuff it works extremely well.Overall I am well pleased with this axe, and is so satisfying to use, I wonder why I never researched axes before and got one sooner.Hope you enjoy using it tooMikePS Try and split tangentially to the rings, not perpendicular, and it'll make the job even easier.

I tried my brother's X27 and went online immediately and ordered one too. I'd faffed around with splitting blocks & mallets, small axes etc and thought splitting logs just was just too difficult. Then I tried one of these ....This is a necessarily heavy axe; carefully aimed, the weight of the axe alone is enough to split many logs. The handle is reassuringly long such that it goes straight down through the log. Just as importantly, if you miss, it hits the ground rather than continuing in an arc and taking your leg off.If this axe doesn't split your logs, they can't be split... Buy one.

Bought this because I had a huge fir tree to remove & the roots were dulling everything I was trying to cut them with. The axe went through them no problem & went onto to split several rounds of logs & still does not need sharpening. The balance & weight are excellent as your not lifting a solid shaft & the shape of the head splits & then divides usually in the first swing. Accuracy is greatly improved because your not exhausted by lifting a traditional maul over your head so you get it on the second swing anyway. Good tool & should last a long long while.

Sick of seeing my very dyed in the wool husband splitting wood with an ordinary axe, I asked my middle son (who has done wood clearance in many parts of the world) for a recommendation for a good splitting axe. This is the one he recommended above all others for its wealability, its durability (i.e. handles not dropping off, etc), and overall quality. So far, his recommendation has proved to be without fault.

My 2nd Fiskars splitting axe; I have the smaller one which has done well for smaller timber this last five years.Needed a heavier axe for the bigger rounds I get these days, so I went up an extra kilo to this one.Absolutely the same performance levels, this one busting 30cm + with the same ease the other axe deals with smaller wood.Pound for pound I don't think you'll get a better value axe.

Debated buying an x25 but went with the x27 for the extra length. It took a couple of swings to get used to the extra length but after that I was splitting logs all after noon with minimal effort. The extra length allows you to actually use less effort than with a slightly shorter axe. Went through some decent knots with a good swing.I would highly recommend this axe

I have had several splitting axes over the years and this one is far superior in every way, throw all your others away and buy one. it almost never gets stuck in the timber making the job much quicker, it’s super lightweight for its size, I’m very happy and only wish I’d have bought one years ago
