Considering all the fun and full on fits of laughter "Cranium" has sourced over the years, a 4-star rating from me is actually kinda harsh. Honestly, it's easily my favourite board game and nothing needs ADDED to it. However, as the review title illustrates, I feel the game would benefit from a 25% reduction in game categories...I can't stress enough how fun 3 of the 4 card categories can be. "Creative Cat" is often tear-inducing for me and my family (none of whom have much in the way of artistic merits) with particularly pathetic pictures and sculptures being the source of much lighthearted ribbing even years after they occur. On one occasion my father had to draw a frog,it turned out like a swim-cap and goggles on a pair of chicken legs. Another time, he had to try and sculpt Humpty Dumpty, he squished the clay a little and then rolled it off the table... he didn't even think to give it a face."Star Performer" has also brought about many fits of giggles with passionate (but tone-deaf) humming of personal favourites not clicking with teammates and inept impressions falling apart whilst trying to avoid proper nouns (for instance, how do you convincingly impersonate Mr. Blobby when all he says is his name?!). "Word Worm" spelling challenges can get ridiculously tense considering how frivolous they are, and the various puzzles aren't always easy but the majority are solvable regardless of your knowledge, often rewarding logic and team discussion. Now we come to the category our household could do without: "Data Head". I can't speak for all "Cranium" aficionados but from my family's perspective, taking random guesses is not fun, which is what you'll be doing if you land on this category and aren't an obscure fact bank. So often a laugh riot has been swiftly shattered due to an unfortunate team falling on a dreaded red space, potentially stuck there for many turns, hoping for a "Polygraph" (true or false means 50% odds of escaping). In our house it also kills the competitiveness of the other team as there's no satisfaction beating folks who were snagged in the land of luck. Even on the odd occasion that you do know an answer, sure it's kinda satisfying (not to mention a relief), but is it fun? Certainly not funny, and rarely involves teamwork. If i wasn't so neurotic, my family would probably be playing the game without the "Data Head" category, pretending red spaces allow you to choose a category or somethin'. Alas, I'm a fusspot and long for the day when a 3 category "Cranium" is released. Not that this issue of mine should stop anyone buying the game, it's still the favourite of a family who has rather exhausted the world's board game library. I guess this review is more of a request to someone out there...

This purchase from Amazon was great, easy to order, quick delivery and best price I could find on the web before Christmas. We have played the original Cranium as well as the family edition but now this is definitely our favourite! In case you haven't played Cranium before, I'll give a brief description of the game. This is a board game for 4 or more players as you need at least 2 people in each team. Once you have decided on your teams you pick your piece to move around the baord (in this game they are little cartoom like characters that you customize with funny hair/hats to). To make a move you roll the die and move your piece to the respective square on the board. These squares are all different colours which relate different activity you must pass in order to move on. The four colours relate to either a "creative cat" task (things like drawing and getting your team mates to guess what it is or sculpting something from the cranium clay provided), "data head" task (general knowledge questions, true and false or pick the odd one out), "word worm" task (things like deciphering anagrams or speeling a word backwards), "star performer" taks (things like charades, or humming a song and getting your team mates to guess what it is). Before you can roll the die again you must succesfully complete a task from the particular category you're on. The aim of the game is to get to the centre of the board by passing all the tasks before the opposition. The whole game has a great balance of activites. Some get everyone up out of their seats while others have questions that get everyone thinking. We played this all through Christmas night and again on boxing day and it created so many belly-laughs. I highly reccomend for the whole family as you can get everyone involved in the various different tasks, although if you have very young childern you may want to opt for the family version.

There is only one downside to this game you need four players to play! I bought this for my daughter for Christmas as she had the junior cranium years ago and whilt she liked it it doesnt have the range of thsi game. You have four areas of cards to complete and work around the board throwing different colours on the dice. Word Worm which has alsorts of different word game, spelling backwards, guessing meanings, etc. There Star Performer, humming, charades and the fun one puppeting. There Data Head which is like questions and Creative cat, drawing with your eyes closed, modeling with clay, etc. It is great fun for all the family and even the people who are first didn't want to perform by the end of the game were very into it.You do need a bit of room to play it and at least 4 people. But it is very much fun for all ages.

This is a fab game! My boyfriend and I were looking for a game which was a bit different to stop us having to watch boring TV every night and were very impressed with this. We didn't pay attention though to the 4 players + note when we bought it, but we manage to play with just the 2 of us with no problems, we just adapt some of the rules and it works fine, though we did take it to a friends and had a proper laugh with more people. Even as a VERY bad loser, I don't mind losing this game as it is such a laugh doing all the challenges. It is a game for teens and upwards, just because of some of the general knowledge questions and the songs which you are supposed to hum. All in all, great game and would very much recommend.

This game is excellent fun. It combines elements of Pictionary, Charades, general knowledge, role-play, sculpture, everything. You do need at least 4 people and with larger teams it would be even better. It's quite exhausting because you are always up and jumping around and of course laughing out loud at everyone's attempts to carry out the tasks! It's great for Christmas gatherings because it's different than the same-old games. It could even rival the electronic games for fun and novelty. It's only really suitable for adults because you do need to have some knowledge of vocabulary and spelling etc. I love this game and so did everyone who played it in our family at Christmas.10 out of 10.

I bought this game as a christmas present to my family and we played it on christmas night. My aunty usually hates board games but she loved this one!! It's hilarious, best played in large groups. The tasks it gets you to perform are so original and there's something in there for everyone. Highly recommend if your looking for a game to get everyone playing and laughing. It also doesn't go on for too long although it will take up most of your night. It doens't necessarily require you to be good at trivia either as there is something there for everyone.

This is a great game for family and friends and for all type of people. The good at Maths will team up with the person who's good at drawing and the fun it'll be guaranteed! We have played all over Christmas and we've been playing with friends in different occasion. One only down side is the number of cards, once you've gone through all of them you start remembering the answers and it looses the fun side a bit. Otherwise great game!

Bought this game for family evenings after reading all the great reviews, and found that it exceeded expectations, if that is possible. It is great fun and absolutely hilarious. We played with our 16 year old daughter and her friends. Would not recommend for much younger. However, there is another Cranium game aimed at younger age groups. Family get togethers, Christmas, parties, cannot recommend it enough.

one of the few games a that is serious fun and you actually learn a few facts whilst well maybe the facts are useless ones but it makes the game. Everyone can join in and should it is a seriously fun game to play well worth the money and whats more is that it does not take that long to play either brilliant

I bought this as a Xmas gift for my parents as we love to play board games and it went down a treat. There is something for all types of people to get involved with from the extrovert to the shy. Highly recommend and was delivered promptly and safely.

A great game as something for everyone. Fun to play in groups however some of the cards have games played by 3 people from one team, we just used a volunteer from another team as the 3 times we have played we had 4 teams of 2

Played this at Christmas with family. Its great fun. Great to see people acting out things and trying to mould things out of the clay. Found the board a wee bit hard to follow, but overall would recommend. Brill.

Very confusing and all eager to have a turn, but had to wait for ages to get this if one team got all the questions right.. so a lot of watching and no playing. but perhaps we were playing the game wrong.

A mixture of a few of the classic games ( e.g pictionary, charades) which are a good giggle to play (especially if you are part of a group of like-minded immature adults) - highly recommend it.

Best grown up family game. Its everything for all to enjoy. Charades to fact questions. Clay modelling to spelling. Highly recommend. After playing this game all my family now also own it.
