In my family, it's not that unusual to find all of us have the same or extremely similar items. It's partially a matter of taste, but it's also because if we have found something that works, we don't feel the need to find something else. That's why I wasn't surprised that the year I asked for a pump for air mattresses for Christmas, I got the Coleman 4D Quick Pump. This is a battery operated pump. It takes 4 D batteries. Since I was looking for a pump to take tent camping, it was perfect. The bottom comes off the base, the batteries go in, and the base fits back on with out a bit of struggle. They even have diagrams there to show you which way the batteries are supposed to go,which I really appreciate. In addition to the base unit, the pump comes with a nozzle. Now, the nozzle doesn't get too narrow since it is designed to work with standard wide opening and Boston style valves. You know, like the ones that are in all the Coleman brand air mattresses. Anything you're trying to pump up with this will need to have a large opening for air to flow into, or it just won't work. The nozzle twists onto the opening to inflate the mattress. There is no locking on the deflate part of the mattress, but it does fit snuggly into that opening as well.I've got no stats on how much air this thing actually pumps, but it's quite a bit. I have standard twin size mattresses, and I can get them inflated or deflated in two minutes, tops. This isn't the kind of pump you need to start while doing other things. You can sit there and watch them fill.Of course, that speed does come with a downside. Boy is it loud! You won't be making any friends if you use this late at night. It makes a high pitched, whiney sound that isn't exactly pleasant. You can live with it, but it's not the most pleasant sound. The pump is roughly four inches cubed, so it doesn't take up that much room. Most of the weight is the 4 D batteries. This makes it easy to stash with your camping gear no matter how full your car is.Ironically enough, I've found I use this pump more at home. I pull it out a couple times a year when I or my roommates have guests over. The pump hasn't failed us yet, and I've had it for several years. It does come with a one year warrantee in case yours doesn't work right.Someday, I will take my Coleman 4D Quick Pump camping and use it for what I originally wanted it for. When that trip comes, I am confident that it will fulfill it's purpose efficiently.

First , a confession : I didn't buy mine from Amazon , but I did check out the reviews here before finding it at a lower price at a local shop ( the price here now matches that !) I was also unsure if it would work with the inflatable I wanted it for , a Sevylor boat ( which I did buy from here :-) ) .So for anyone else wondering if this little contraption will do a good job inflating a boston valve equipped boat compartment , the answer is yes . You may need a final little bit of work with a footpump to get up to the required pressure , but this thing shifts plenty of air ,, an effortless 2 minutes to inflate using it compared with a 10 minute aerobic workout with the Sevylor foot pump that came with the boat .I considered car socket powered devices , but this is a lot more suitable for times when the boat has to be carried a little way from the parking area , much easier to carry it in the bag and inflate it next to the water !As someone else has noted , another major plus is the ability to switch to the inlet port of the pump and 'power deflate' the boat , which makes it possible to get the boat back in it's box .The pump is chunky and hefty with the Dcells in place , the latches and switch seem well made and the adaptor locks in neatly . I'd be reluctant to store it in the supplied drawstring bag in case it was dropped or knocked and the protruding port was damaged , so I'm keeping mine in the cardboard box with the cells tucked round the edges. So why only 4 stars ? Well the only adapter included is the boston valve one , so the three compartments of my boat which have standard airbed type narrow valves are not catered for . Not wanting to cannibalise the pump that came with the boat I either use the foot pump for those ( admittedly smaller ) compartments or scrat around to find some old adaptors and bodge something together with duct tape .

Bought this not expecting much but wanting something to help blow up two camping beds during a camping holiday. Suprisingly it worked better than I expected. It got two double beds reasonably hard (but not as hard as I would have liked) and did it on one set of batteries with what sesm to be lotws of power left in. The connection to the mattress is a bit fiddely but then this was not an expensice pump ( I paid less than seven pounds inc delivery) so what do you expect - but ti works you jsut have to make sure you hold it firmly in and are quick putting the stopper in place. The version I bought does not have a connncetion for an extenal power supply and for me that was one advantage. If you are camping having batteries means that you dont need to be near a power source or close to you car when inflating the mattresses. The air extract feature is usefull when you come to break camp. The pump is very effective in removing the air from the matress so taht it will actually fold up and go back into its packaging. I was able to inflate and deflate two double matresses on one set of batteries.Would I buy again - well probably yes give the occassional use to which this is put. If I was a regular camper I may want something which was a little more robust especially if I was inflating mattresses every day. However, for me this is a must take item when I am packing to go camping.

To be honest I was more than just a bit wary about buying this because it was battery operated and not 12v or mains, and given the length of time it used to take to inflate my old air bed with a mains pump I figured the batteries would probably run down before the bed was even inflated. Anyway given the cheap price (well done Amazon) I figured if it was no good I wouldn't have lost a great deal so I purcased one and what an excellent product, I also purchased the camping Gaz double air bed with pillows at the same time and this wonderful little pump had it inflated, pillows as well in less than 4 minutes. deflating the air bed was equally as impressive and I feel the batteries will last a very long time. Also on a plus side its small and compact so wont take up too much room on your camping trip. A word of warning though, the nozzle is fairly large and is designed for newer style air beds with a bigger air valve, so it will not work on an air bed with a small hole.

It's an airpump and it quickly inflates mattresses, any more need saying?PROS:Very quickly inflates mattressesVery lightweight itself (4 D batteries on the other hand, quite heavy)Batteries last a long time* (see note)adapter tip can fit inside the battery compartment for storageCONS:A little expensiveAdapter nozzle may not fit all mattresses (see other reviews), but it fit my coleman's double airbed fineA little awkward for travel convenience/spaceNot at all quiet, but its fast enough that if you have 30sec-1minute, you'll be done anyways.Only two real negatives, one is noise (but that is the cost of speed), and the other is that if the batteries are left in the pump overnight, they will die.Somehow, the pump passively drains electricity, when not in use. To remedy that, just remove the batteries after you use it and store them somewhere else.

My air bed is always going flat in the middle of the night. But I always feel awful running a pump at 3am when everyone is asleep because I don't want to disturb anyone.Enter the quickpump. It's powerful and speedy little motor makes filling the air bed back up at 3am cause less guilt. It's not as noisy as I would have expected either, considering how fast it can inflate a double depth double air bed. From completely flat I think it took about 5 minutes to fill the air mattress, and for middle of the night top ups it took at most a minute. Which is good when you are a big girl and find yourself half in half out of a mostly deflated mattress and not quite sure how to get out of it.I kept it within reach of the bed for my entire holiday. The batteries lasted really well and the first set were still going when I got home. (I had taken spares just in case)

I've been using s similar pump by another manufacturer for a few years. They work amazingly well on regular airbeds, much better than foot pumps or even more expensive 12v style pumps. The last one eventually broke its battery case as it was made from cheap plastic. This Campingaz version is almost identical but seems slightly better made and includes a carry bag, which is useful. It uses 4 big D cell batteries so factor the price of these in, but still under £3 for a branded pump like this is an absolute bargain. It's a simple on/off switch and inflate/deflate depends on which nozzle you attach the bits to. Dropping one star because it doesn't have an adaptor for the very small valves that you find on inflatable toys etc.Simple, cheap, effective. Recommended.

This pump is an excellent unit for inflating air beds when away from a source of mains power. The motor is fairly powerful and can inflate a full double mattress within a few minutes; inflating a single takes barely a couple of minutes. The deflate function is useful - certainly more reliable at extracting air than trying to squeeze air out by hand.I don't yet know how long the batteries will last, so if you're expecting to use this item frequently, you may want to purchase some D to AA adapters to allow you to use rechargeable AA batteries with this unit.Oh, and I've discovered another useful function for this unit: it's excellent for blowing air into barbecue charcoals on a still day when they need 'encouragement':-)

Been using one for years. Bought my mother one also.I usually go on camping touring holidays with my wife, and our record from 'handbrake' to ready for bed using a popup tent from decathlon and a double airbed is 5 1/2 minutes. It is a brilliant bit of kit. It gets new batteries every year , just because i don't like leaky batteries and empty all the camping stuff on return home. It has never gone flat in a fortnight of use on Halfords alkalines.I also use it to deflate the mattress, as it sucks it very flat, and it makes it easier to roll up.Both the ones I have bought came with three nozzles. I have seen people trying to use the nozzle on the wrong port. The one on top is deflate, the one on the side is inflate.

Received this pump today and it is a perfect size. Not too big and not too small. Ideal for camping trips.I put Uniross rechargeble batteries in mine and the pump weight is very light as the batteries are half the weight of normal D cell Duracell or similar. I would recommend that anyone considering this pump gets some rechargeble batteries for it.I had my doubts as to whether this pump would actually work however, I am extremely impressed with it's performance. It pumped up my double Coleman mattress in well under 4 minutes (which is far quicker than say a hairdryer). For the money, I would say get one as there are other makes which are nearly double the price. You won't be disappointed.

I took this item to a festival & it pumped up my double air bed in minutes. It was so useful we ended up lending it to others who were camped around us who were having trouble with their cumbersome foot pumps. The same credit can be given when I used it to deflate the mattress. It vacuumed all the air out, so much so, that I was able to get the mattress back into its original box. This item is a very handy piece of kit & I'll certainly be bringing it on my next camping trip.Just a word of warning - it doesn't come with batteries & the nozzle is specifically designed for air beds, so you won't be able to inflate your lilos or other inflatable toys with it.

I wasn't sure exactly what to expect from this, but it blew me away. Took this to Bloodstock Metal Festival to blow up a few airbeds and it saved masses of time and effort.*** PROS ***- Compact, lightweight but robust- Blew up double airbed in about 1 min, single air bed 20 seconds- Adapter for other types of valve (although i have not got anything to test this on)*** CONS ***- The batteries don't last for long, although it takes such a short amount of time to inflate things it shouldn't be an issue. I clocked it roughly at 20 minutes worth of use from a set of 4 Duracel Plus

Great pump, used it several times to inflate a double airbed. At first just used some very cheap D batteries which pumped up the bed twice but not very firm. Then I switched to some alkaline batteries and noticed a massive increase in power - pumps faster and firmer and they even last longer. For our most recent trip my partner also bought some of the vacuum pack bags for our sleeping bag and pillows and the pump even managed to vacuum all of the air out of them. The pump is great for us as we can use it indoors when staying with family and out camping with or without a car.

I've not used it on a camping trip as yet, but I tested it out on a single airbed and it inflates very quickly. 30 seconds quick! It can also be used to deflate, but I don't really see the point myself. It's very light when you first take it out of the box, but once you've stuck 4 D size batteries in it it's quite heavy. As it's all plastic, I imagine that you could crack it quite easily if you dropped it, considering the weight of the batteries it's carrying. But, having tested it at home I'm confident that it'll inflate 5 airbeds on a camping trip in no time at all!

Really impressed with this little electric pump. Although its no replacement for the more powerful mains/12V powered air pumps, I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. Pumped up a large paddling pool to a good enough pressure, along with the customary pink flamingo, fairly quickly. I haven't tried it on anything else yet, so can't comment on battery life, and it does need four of the large 'D' cell batteries too, which can be expensive, but at least its portable and ideal for those times when you're not close enough to mains or 12v power.
