I bought this saddle a little over six months ago after all the hype and it was an excellent saddle, it broke in much sooner than was expected and solved my saddle soreness, however, after breaking in it needed to be adjusted for sag and it would not move whichever way I tried to turn the screw, the screw would turn and nothing would move, so I contacted Brookes to return it under warranty and guess what? yep! they are not interested, with some lame excuse that it was bought from the wrong platform (whatever that means) They would, However, repair it but at great cost to myself, Now it seems that all the Hype is about the Heritage (1866) But it says little about the company as a Brand,This is where so many British companies fail, if you buy into a reputable brand with a high cost and Kudos you should expect and put up with their failings, I may have to replace this saddle which I would do of the same sort but NOT from Brooks. Repairs should not be a secondary income for any company.

I spent a while looking around for a new saddle. I always found and complained that after long cycle rides my butt would give out first, then my legs and then my lungs. I decided to bite the bullet and buy this after reading the great reviews. When it first turned up I was a bit annoyed/frustrated at how hard the saddle was. It's not soft at all. I decided to give it a go anyway and see what I made of it. The quality/finish is perfect, as you would expect and it looks so nice in Red.I took the bike out and when I looked down at my Strava app, I noticed I was upto 59 miles. My butt hadn't hurt once. It was truly amazing. I ended up doing 70 miles that day and it didn't hurt at all then or the next day.I think its because of how big the saddle is? I honestly don't care that its not the lightest saddle in the world. My average speed is up SO much higher because I'm not stopping to rub my bum better every 10 miles.

Dear ReaderDue to a Neurological Condition I am housebound. As part of my therapy programme I have been prescribed an exercise regime. The Exercise Bike I use is great, but the seat I got with it is a bit well...hard on the Bum to put it mildly and made using it uncomfortable. I bought a replacement which was fine for a while until the gel in that Saddle gave up the ghost and then back to the pain in the bottom scenario.Prior to becoming ill I cycled quite a bit on a Dawes Super Galaxy with a Brooks Saddle. I had that bike for the best part of 15 years. And in all that time, once the Saddle had been ridden in, I never had an uncomfortable ride due to botty pain.So yes, I use it for an exercise bike,so what. Have used it daily since purchase and there is now comfort on my up to 2 Hourly sessions on the exercise machine. If I ever get well and can ride a road bike again, I'm having Brooks Fitted.

I agree with the initial saddle hardness issues with the B17.My initial ride on a B17 nearly left me a soprano after I cycled in to a dip in the road. But I cured this hardness problem in a slightly unorthodox way. I covered the saddle with a cloth to avoid marking it and tenderized it like a piece of steak for about 10 minutes with the handle of a 2 pound hammer. The front of the saddle underneath on its frame is a tension adjusting nut. I slackened it a little and rode the bike for 2-3 days before readjusting. I had that first B17 saddle a good 10-12 years and many thousands of miles before it wore out,it was like having an arm chair on a bike.I am going back to cycling after a long break and I plan to leave my B17 on my touring bike and buy a new one for the hybrid type I'm buying.A Tip! Carry a plastic bag under the saddle if you have to leave your bike out in the rain, even if you have it oiled.

It took rather more than the recommended break in time to get comfortable but it's fine now, looks and feels superb....I swap it between my Brompton and a vintage Dawes...looks great on either. You do have to look after it though ....so order a tin of proofride....(you get a sachet with the saddle, which is enough to get started ). The saddle developed a disconcerting range of creaks after a few rides ....the solution is to smear a bit of proofride round the points where metal meets saddle and run a hairdryer over it for a few seconds ....if you put too much on it'll bleed through to the top of the saddle and show as a dark patch (It will dissipate over time).I'm told it's not a good idea to mess with the adjusting bolt .So...lovely classic product but it needs a bit of looking after !!

I'm reviewing this saddle not because I've bought it recently, but because I bought it at least 35 years ago and it's still going strong (see photo). Don't be put off by the fact that it feels 'hard'. It's supremely more comfortable than a gel or padded saddle. Give your saddle time to adjust to you (and you to it), and you'll never want to part with it. Mine has been from bike to bike with me over at least 35 years, and it has an intimate relationship with my bum.Treat yourself. It's the only bike saddle you'll ever need to buy.

I have ridden Brooks saddles all my life therefore am very familiar with them. I am expecting a new bike soon and obviously need to have one on this bike. These saddles need to broken in but once done so, they are like your favourite armchair. The price here is unbeatable, I don't know how they can undercut Brooks by about 40 percent but I'm delighted. Keep up your good work and thank you...

Many people complain that this saddle needs to be 'broken in' before they become comfortable. However, my experience of having three Brooks saddles over a lifetime of distance riding is that it is question of adjusting the saddle correctly so that the rider sits on the widest part of the saddle and NOT the narrow peak, which WILL be uncomfortable and ruins the long term life of the saddle.

If you own a Brompton bike then this is a must have addition to it. I have a Brompton in Raw Lacquer and it finished off the look of the bike just fine. It is not a cheap for a saddle for a bike, but it is just British craftsmanship at its finest. Very easy to fit, and straight from the off it is far more comfortable than the original saddle. It is just going to get better with age.

Great if you ride for many hours at a time. It takes a couple of hundred miles to break in before the saddle becomes comfortable but after that it's perfect it looks cool too. If you only ride for an hour or so at a time then the saddle which your bike came with will probably be fine for you but for long distances and many hours in the saddle I now will never use anything else.

Brooks saddles are simply the best for me. BUT ..Brooks seem to be slipping in quality of components in that the bolts that are integral to the saddle design are made of poor quality alloys and have now sheared/broken 3 times on my saddles. Brooks is getting a bad reputation for customer back up ..its looking like another British product let down by poor quality control!!

A wonderful product that looks great on my green mountain bike and is very comfortable. The fact that it is made in Britain is a very thick slice of icing on the already delicious cake! Some people say you have to "run them in" but this saddle was comfortable immediately and has turned slightly darker with age, making it look even better. Wow!

Although the Brazilian rate was high, this bicycle seat is not just an acquisition, but an investment. There is no way to compare it with any other product I have ever seen! Unfortunately I will have to sell it to get money (pandemic effect), and the user's dream will be for the next one ... I recommend the product! There is nothing like it!

I you've never used a Brooks saddle as you've heard all the bad things about comfort and breaking in then just take the plunge as they are so much better than people think. Comfort, longevity and great looks for very little money. Don't forget to get the saddle proofer though at the same time as you will need it.

Really liked this b17 saddle, this is my second fitted to my hybrid bike, comfortable on a long run as your sit bones mould to the leather in time. Ensure that you cover the saddle when exposed to weather, I used the proofide thats supplied plus a waterproof cover when not riding outside.
