Love this bag! Bought it for an upcoming trip on 7/4.It's well made, sturdy and looks really cool, if you're into understated elegance. However, I was unable to give it 5 stars because of a couple of minor but bothersome drawbacks. The bag is expandable. From a lying position, it telescopes upward to accommodate more items and can then subsequently be packed down once you're done. Fantastic, right? The problem here is that the expandable part in the middle has no outside zipper to hold it closed. Consequently, when picking up the fully packed bag from the side handle, the other half of the bag that is not attached to the handle sags outward exposing the unattached seam and making the bag awkward to maneuver. There is no such noticeable sag when handling the bag from the top because of the smaller, more sturdy area there. Since I'll be handling the bag 99% of the time from the top, this is a minor inconvenience but I would definitely NOT recommend checking this bag. Indeed, the very name of the item is antithetical to it. While it is durable, a nasty toss from a "savage baggage handler" is all it would take to render the beginnings of a rip or tear in the fabric.Secondly, the small pocket located on the back between the pull-up handle is very cool. Only problem is that they should have attached pigtails to the zipper heads for ease of use. The pulls are the same size as the rest but are situated on the side of the pocket. The proximity of the pull-up handle makes it difficult to grab and pull them. This pocket was, I assume, included for convenience. It is everything BUT convenient when attempting to use it.I would have appreciated a third zipper located on the seam just above the B&R logo on the outside pocket. The oversized gusset is cool but... it's oversized. A third, smaller and tighter pocket would be ideal for tablets or mid-sized items of convenience. All said, this bag rocks. You can't have everything you want in one bag but this one comes close. I chose it because quality matters; you WILL end up spending more on bags of lesser quality. No bag is suited for the needs of every single traveler but the B&R U122CX-4 has more than enough of what I need in a carry-on bag.Update 7/9/17:This bag performed admirably. Fits just fine into the OHC on American. Does not even come close to fitting in the CRJ overhead bin but did not have a problem checking complimentary at the gate. Nice thing about commuters is that your bag is checked and then returned to you right next to the plane. No problems, no hassles. My buddy who drove me to the airport for my return flight made a comment about how nice he thought the bag was as he hoisted into his SUV. Sweet!

This is a typical Briggs & Rilley. After 17 years of weekly usage of my old Carry-On Expandable it was about time for a new one. The quality seems to be equally good as the old one.pros+ The zippers look very strong.+ There are some improvements I like very much like that is possible to "compress" the expandable after the bag is closed to ensure that nothing in the bag fall around and no space is wasted.+ The wheels are similar as the old ones, very good. Mine do about 2-3 miles / weekneutral:The strap to hold the laptop bag in front the upright is now fixed mounted to the upright with one end. The good news is that you cannot loose them any more.the not so good news is that from my point of view it is a bit more complicated now to mount and unmounts the laptop bag. But this is probably just a matter of taste and getting used to it.not so good- the old upright carry-on had a separate bag for the suite that could be totally removed from the carry-on. You could fix it in the catty on very easily. in the new edition this bag is fixed mounted to the carry-on and you can only put the suite into the bag while it is lying ad not hanging. This I certainly a step back. Dear Briggs & Riley team, please fix that in the next edition. A separate bag for the suite that can be hag into the wardrobe or just somewhere in the hotel room is essential for heavy duty traveler. But still this is one of the best carry-on trolleys on the market, considering its durability and true lifetime warranty.

I wanted to upgrade my old Costco 2 wheel carry-on and after a week or two of researching I settled on the B&R domestic expandable 2 wheel carry-on. Until I started looking for a carry on that would hold up for a decent amount of business travel, I hadn't really heard of this brand and thought I would go for Tumi since I love my expandable T-Pass case/bag from them - it's the perfect business bag. After having this bag for a little over a month and using it a few times, the differences from my old carry-on stand out. First of all, the compression system seems awesome. I also think this case (I got black) looks very "tight" in that it can carry a lot of stuff, but the case doesn't come across as huge. The handle has more play than I would have expected but we'll see how that goes - I haven't really seems reviews saying that it broke so I assume it's just how it's made for a reason. The suit system also seems really nice compared to how I would pack stuff before. I'm a tall guy so hopefully they fit well.I debated about going 4 wheels instead of 2 with this one and I'm glad I stuck with the traditional 2 wheel bag. The reviews on the 4 wheel spinner seem to indicated it doesn't really roll well. The other thing I realized on my first trip with it was how much i'm running from building to building in a hurry in various cities. I can't imagine trying to pull/push the 4 wheel spinner would be very efficient for that at all.Glad I picked-up this bag and stuck with 2 wheel.s

We used to use travelpro but were swayed by the lifetime guaranteed by B & R. We've had numerous warranty claims on our travelpros and there is no convenient location for us to get travelpro service.I was unsure the carryon would be sufficiently big for me but I have used it on a cruise and also as my only bag to bring on a 15 day trip to China. It still looks brand new and I've used it several times. We ended up getting one for my husband and also the medium upright expandable too. The domestic carry on can be stored inside the medium upright, which is helpful on cruises especially. The bag is very sturdy and rolls silently. The pockets are well thought out. The pocket on the back outside of the bag seems strange.it was marketed as where to put things to get thru security but for our travels, we use it to store phone/laptop chargers there. The suiter part is built in, but if you don't want to use it, you can take out the insert for more space. The dimensions given are with the bag fully compressed, so you can really hold more than that. The compression idea is very neat and works very well. I was amazed at the size. The flatness of the bag, since the handles are on the outside, makes it VERY easy to pack! It's incredible how much you can fit into it. I am very pleased with it. I think the price is fair considering the quality and the warranty. I figure it's the last bag I will buy! :)

I had to pack for a 4-day conference. My old carry on had the handles on the inside of the bag which limited packing space — traded up for the Briggs and Reilly Baseline Carry-on. With the handles on the outside, it allows for a nice flat packing area with more space. The space between the handles allows for a small pocket for which I used for a USB-C battery to keep my gadgets charged. The front zip pocket allowed me quickly access a newspaper and other papers for quick reading. The small front punch allowed for fast storage of my keys and AirPods. On my way back from the conference, I picked up some other material, instead of carrying another bag, I used the extenders to allow for more packing space. However, this made it too big to carry on, so I checked the bag. I could have used a personal item but my personal preference to not lug around my stuff on the way back. The zippers are amazing compared to other bags I've used, quick and easy open. I prefer two wheels instead of four because the design allows for a bigger packing area, again a personal preference. With the use of Ziploc travel bags that take the air out of packing, I was able to pack for a 4-day conference into only a carry-on. Thank you, Briggs and Reilly, for quality gear!

Overall, an excellent bag and definitely the best of the bags I looked at (tumi / travel pro / etc). I am an occasional business traveler usually taking one or two 2-3 day trips in a month. For most trips, 2 suits or so are absolutely essential, as well as a few changes of clothes. Have not run out of space yet - the compression feature really does work. I do find that there is a small piece of plastic that occasionally gets caught when compressing on one side. That's happened maybe twice. More importantly, the bag astoundingly still fits everything and still has fit in every overhead compartment I have tried to put it in.The only thing that you should be aware of - with the wide body (and not a problem with the domestic only model)it's a really tight fit down airplane aisles. It will roll down the aisle, but with maybe an inch on each side, so you have to be quite precise.. So either be a careful driver or pick it up when boarding/deplaning. But really that isn't a problem with the bag, it's your choice as to which bag you choose (the domestic model is more slender but is a little taller and fits a bit less). The wide body will be, well, wide. :)Very happy with the purchase overall.

Great product and design. I travel often for business and require that I travel carry-on while still being able to have suits and dress clothing in my luggage. This design of this case allows you to pack a lot clothing into a small space. This fits easily into overheads, even on the small "regional jets. The "wider" size is barely noticeable. I beat the hell out of this thing ... dragging it through the snow and in and out of cabs and shuttles and it still looks brand new. Its fairly regular looking on the style side but I like that, because I don't want my luggage or more importantly the stuff that might be inside of it to stand out when I am traveling. I chose the t wheel design on purpose for a couple of reasons.I don't find that four wheels are all that much more maneuverable and the wheels on those cases are small, get stuck and tend to break more easily. Also, more wheels = more things to break. Plus I think people look like they are walking trotting out a poodle out at the AKC dog show when you wheel one of those things through the terminal. Just silly looking and emasculating ... but that's my opinion.

Ok, who wouldn't choke on paying $500 for a suitcase, especially when you can get one for $75 if you wanted. Nevertheless, I am really glad I made the splurge and bought this. You will read a lot about Briggs and Riley and wonder it is hype. It's isn't. I have owned the larger version of this bag for ten years, schlepping it all overt the world without a worry. Once when a piece came loose I took it to a repair center in NYC and they fixed it on the spot for free, just as promised. I wanted the smaller bag so got this one. The outside wheel structure saves a lot of space inside, especially f you are packing shoes. I have traveled for two weeks at a time with this bag, including to Europe. If you only travel rarely you can probably find a cheaper bag that will serve you just fine. But if you travel a lot and want a bag that won't fall apart on you on the road and that you can use for a decade or longer, this is a worthwhile investment.

(EDIT - Bag now four years old. Still good as new - really impressed.) Owned this bag for 18 months now and it still looks as new. It's been on many business flights, both as carry on and in the hold, but mostly Eurostar backwards and forwards from London to Paris (Lots of dragging/bumping up and down stairs on respective Capitals underground's). I had a slight concern when purchased, as the handle felt a bit loose/wobbly when extended, but it's still going strong. Features that could be seen as a bit gimmicky have turned out to be really valuable: from having a garment folder that means no ironing of shirts at destination, to being able to whip out a brolly from the external pocket. But the bag came into its own on a trip to New York where I was able to take as carry on out, and then expand the bag to fit some additional clothes /gifts before checking into hold on way back. Simple but effective. Highly recommend!

I travel 100k miles a year for work, always with just a carry-on (whether for 3 days or 3 weeks) and have always been a loyal TravelPro customer. When it came time to replace my trusty but old luggage, I decided it was time to purchase the best I could find. B&R is definitely the most expensive option of the top alternatives but absolutely worth it! I actually first purchased the TravelPro Platinum Magna 2 22" but when it arrived, I realized I was not going to be 100% satisfied and returned it immediately to get what I really wanted (it does not expand as much as my old one). This piece of B&R luggage is fantastic. It's size is deceiving since it is slightly wider and not as tall as the TravelPro.But its volume is actually larger! The inside is almost completely flat and with the amazing ratcheting mechanism the size is completely adjustable. There's no going back for me.The best review I found: [...]

This is a great suitcase. Quality is second to none. Can't beat the lifetime warranty. You can get more stuff in this thing than you could ever imagine. I can leave for the week on a business trip and pack everything I need. The only downside? This is advertised as a carry-on but the only airline that it is technically compliant with in size is Southwest. It does not meet carry on requirements for AA, US Air (now AA), Delta or United. Fortunately, most of my travel is on Southwest so it is not an issue. I have been able to carry it on the other airlines the couple times I have taken it, but others have noted that they've had to check it at the gate if called to fit in the bin.Note this if you want peace of mind that your bag will not be checked. Consider the Briggs & Riley Baseline Commuter (which I also have) if you want something that is within the required dimensions for the other airlines.

I've been a TravelPro Crew 5 regular, but it's not up to international carry-on standards and my new role requires me to wear suits and jackets more often so I decided it was time to get a new bag that's a carry-on and has a good suit carrier. My big reasons for choosing B&R was the lifetime warranty and the CX features. Wheels are smooth and the suit folding system works well to hold suit and it doesn't drift. The handle doesn't have any serious padding, but there's enough to make it workable. The side handles are nice because of how they are recessed.Quick update - one side of one of the wheel housings came lose. Not so much to make the bag unusable, but enough that I was concerned it could come off if handled aggressively when checked. I took the bag into a local authorized B&R repair center, Modern Leather on 32nd in NYC, 15 minutes later, no charge, no issues it was fixed.

I spent long hours wandering what will be the best to replace my old YUE luggage bag used almost 20 years. It was a nameless one but I loved it so much but its wheel rubbers were removed on the last trip. First I tried to repair by myself but gave it up after various trials. Then I checked so many brands, mainly Japanese brand thinking it rather supportive for I am in Japan. But finally, I choosed this Briggs & Riley because it has the most similar size and features with the old YUE and I found this manufacturer is confident with service system. Also the points it attracts me were that it looks tougher and easy to replace wheels and enables expanding of its containing volume. However, on purchase,I found it difficult to buy it in Japan. So impoted with Amazon USA. Surprisingly it came to me just 5 days after ordered!I wish to keep using this over 20 years like that previous one.

I bought this last year and have since flown 130,000 miles with this in either the overhead bin (100% success rate sneaking it past United, Lufthansa, and even easyJet and Ryanair gate checks) or being abused by airline or airport personnel, and, well, it is perfect. After all of this, a couple scratches but nothing has fallen off and everything works as it should. No issues fitting this in overhead bins of A319 and old 737s. Haven't had an opportunity to try this out in a regional jet, but will update as the opportunity pops up.The two things that seem gimmicky - the external bars for the handle and the expansion - are actually great. I'm able to keep a fair amount of stuff inside - including, but not limited to, clothes, beer, electronics, and travel knick-knacks.If you're traveling for a living, or just want to find a good carry-on that will keep up... this is it.

This is the carry-on of choice, and lone suitcase, for a younger family member, who travels world-wide on business, often for weeks on end – and swears by this bag. For someone like me who tends to pack everything but the kitchen sink, I was taken aback by its small size. Until I realized how much this bag can hold and how efficiently.I now better organize my packing and avoid, when I can, having to check a bag; and it's made it so much easier to travel on European railways and over cobblestone streets and sidewalks (a spinner just won't handle cobblestone or broken pavement). The compression feature, flexible design, and the quality of manufacturing are wonderful.I use it in conjunction with a B&R cabin bag.
