For my first time hike I'm doing the Inca trail hike in 2016, and I wanted a pair of poles to train with until then. No way I was going to rent a pair when I got to Peru. After reading and reading reviews I decided to pull the trigger on these BD pro shocks, and I'm glad I did. I have about 30 or so miles on these poles now. It was a short learning curve to establish a good rhythm on level ground, and once I got my uphill stride together, I was good to go…still working on downhill my pace, and control, but these sticks have already saved me 3 out of the 5 times I have stumbled, all of which were my fault…speed.Only feel the shock absorbers occasionally. I have put a lot of weight on these poles,I can see them flex a bit, but I have had no issues with their resiliency, wish my 60+ year old knees were the same. The poles hold the length I have set, there has been no slippage with the clamps. Not yet sure how I feel about the way the tips attach to the poles, but for now they are not going to come loose. As they are required for the trek, I have also purchased the both the BD rubber tech tips, and the pole tip protectors. With zero issues or complaints, I have no problem recommending these poles, totally worth the money.Edit 2/8/16 The poles did work just as I hoped they would during the trek. Especially on the long downhills, they really gave my 60+ y/o knees much needed support. On this trip, I liked the BD rubber tech tips better. The tip protectors hung up in cracks more than a few times, the tech tips never did. Still 5 stars for me.

Now that I have put some miles on these Black Diamond Trail Pro Shock Trekking Poles I can review them. They are a very nice balance between lightweight and sturdy, leaning more to the sturdy. They inspire confidence when I use them unlike some other poles I have used. The solid feel is helped by the metal flick locks, my favorite locking mechanism on any pole I have used. They adjust easily and stay secure. These poles have very comfortable foam grips and the padded straps are very comfortable as well. Once you adjust the straps they stay where you put them. I purchased the Black Diamond slip on rubber tips for when I am on hard surfaces. They should have come with a pair. The rubber tips make them more quiet, protect the surface your on, and reduce strike impact on hard surfaces. Aluminum poles vibrate more than Carbon fiber poles but the shock absorber cushions you well from that while at the same time being almost unnoticeable. I have had less expensive poles with springs inside them and really disliked them but this system works well while being unobtrusive. These are not cheap but the quality and the availability of spare flex tips and carbide tips ensure that your investment will be worthwhile.

I'm 6'3" 220 lbs. The pair of poles came, when I thought it was one. Great deal! Took the RIGHT one on a mountain hike camp trip and loved it. I've had double knee surgery and this helped me on the descents, which is a bit more troubling than ascents because of my knee issues. Adjusts on the fly (the mountains here in Alaska are rough and without trails) to adjust to the varied levels of earth. No slips, either in the friction clips or the foot, which makes a good audible sound when contacting rock, letting you concentrate on reaching another handhold of a tree branch, rock, or tree trunk. The compression of the stick and the flex of the aluminum allows comfort. I've used the strap and held the handle, but also used my palm on the top of the stick without the strap, both angles were comfortable. I felt secure enough to apply almost my full weight on this pole.

These work great, I've used them on several hikes. This is my third set of Trekking poles, and I've gone through all the very clever but never quite right twist to lock/unlock sets. These clip locks are just simpler and better. They are easy, fast and accurate to adjust, the L&R handles really help in getting the strap exactly right around your wrist. The third time out with them I was coming down a steep rocky slope and slipped, I went up in the air and landed on the pole! both bottom sections were bent, completely my fault, I called Black Diamond and the 2 sections are on their way for $20. Great customer service. As an FYI the Shock absorbing feature is always on.And the bottom of the poles have threads to change the baskets, these threads have been holding a few leaves on them so I feel a little like a litter catcher!

Love these poles so much that I just bought a second pair. I had my first pair for 7 years and put them to hard work backpacking and rugged mountain trekking. The only reason I am replacing them is because the plastic caps on the locks disintegrated.I am a woman but I bought the men's poles to give me the extra height for going downhill. These provide excellent stability. The shock absorption is a plus that I appreciate as I'm trekking in my 70s. Someone "borrowed " my first pair from a Lodge andleft me their cheaper Black Diamond poles. It was a big difference in trekking for me. The locks/levers have stayed tight and secure even though I've taken them apart to fit in my suitcase for airline travel. So,this will be my third pair. Well worth every cent.

These are great. I avoided them for a while because the price is a bit much, but the build quality and functioning of the shock system is just amazing. They're lightweight, packable, and apparently pretty durable too. I've been abusing them on hikes all over for a while now, and they are going strong. The only ways these could improve is if the snow baskets were a little larger and detachable, and the poles collapsed folding instead of telescoping, but then you're in $250 Leki pole territory. Be sure you also get the Black Diamond Tech Tips; they replace the tungsten-carbide tip with a hard rubber one. They look great, and you save the trails you're on (the tungsten tips should only be used in snow with the appropriate baskets, anyway).

If you like lever lock poles (I do) then these are great. High quality lever-lock units like these do not slip. Twist lock units (where the telescope function locks by twisting the poles) fail much more often, and are more sensitive to invading dirt. These have sturdy lever locks that don't slip, and a decent shock absorber system. They come with metal tips, and can have rubber tips swapped in, and they have included baskets that can be added as well. The only feature they lack is being able to "disable" the shock system, which I have found handy on some other poles in a few situations. (I do not really miss disabling shock much.) I have used these now on ten hikes and I am still happy with them, they seem to be holding up well.

My wife and I hiked the first section of the Appalachian trail (NOBO - Amicalola Falls to Neel Gap) over 3 nights and 4 days. I don't know how many times on our hike that I told her that I was so thankful for good hiking poles. They made all the difference. I weigh 250 lbs and these poles stood up to a pretty harsh beating throughout the week. I was especially grateful for the shock absorbers built into the poles. Also, when I needed a rest, I would bend over and rest my weight on the pole straps and the top of my backpack on the tops of the poles. I thought the straps would start to loosen after a while, but they never did. I would vote more than 5 stars if I could.

Got these for a 3 days backpacking trip. Now I can't figure out why I didn't have a pair before. Not only do they make hiking and backpacking more enjoyable, but they turned out to be essential for the backpacking trip. I had an extra heavy pack and they bailed me out a few times from rolling my ankle. The real key to these poles are that 1) they are light 2) they are very sturdy 3) the shock absorbers really do help. The grips never really irritated my hands.I did have a problem by the end with one of the shocks and I talked to Black Diamond and they helped me out with it. 6 stars on the customer support.

I'm not an athlete but have noticed those who are athletic using these on walks and hikes. I was going to Europe where I knew I'd be doing a lot of easy-moderate hiking so thought I'd buy trekking poles. I did a lot of research online about features to look for and ended up buying these. What a difference they made. There were places I could not have reached without them--too steep, slippery etc. These saved the day. They are so light that you hardly know you are carrying/using them. Very sturdy and fold easily to fit in my luggage. Wish I'd bought them years ago. They saved my back as well.

Bought 3 sets for my wife and I and sister in law, and have put them thru their paces. We hIked in the Moosehead Lake area mts- Eagle Rock, Borestone and Big Moose mts, all in Oct. the poles are sturdy, the clamps are excellent and do not slip, the shock feature works and helps. The wrist straps have a nice feel, and the additional lower padded grips below the top grips helped a lot going up the mountains. The girls really felt great using the poles and their confidence was sky high, meaning I didn’t have to help them at any pointGlad we got them worth the money (the sale helped)

I just hiked Mount Washington with these and they held up great. There was a spot where I got one stuck and i thought for sure that it would snap as I moved forward, but it did not, although it did bend. The only downfall is the paint doesn't hold up well and they are now covered in scratches. But hey, they are meant to be used. Another great thing about these is that they are fully adjustable. I am 5'10" and my mom is 5' and we were both able to use them comfortably.I am concerned about how the grips will hold up over time, but that remains to be seen.

Love the anti shock system, can be felt sooner than some other types! The whole feel in use is a lot better than others[ my wife said i did not like the look of these at first, but I find them a lot better than other anti shock ones ] the other ones I bought Those are now mine! The easy flick system is nicely set when you receive them, not like the others I bought, they were just enough to hold for inspection purposes [not using}The wrist strap is very comfortable being padded the grip is great also!A nice all round product

I did a lot of research, went to a store and tried both the Black Diamond and Leki Poles. I narrowed it down to the Black Diamond Trail Pro Shock and The Black Diamond Cork Carbon. The cork carbon was by far the Lightest and with very heavy pressure downward had less flex than the Trail Pro. I choose the Trial Pro because of the Cost difference and because the trail pro adjusted to 140cm, the Cork Carbon only adjusted to 130cm (Planning to use this as a tent pole with my tent to save weight, this give more room for adjustment)

I'm not a hard core hiker. But I'm 60 and clumsy. About a year ago, I bought a single, inexpensive pole and realized it was very helpful and prevented at least a few stumbles. My niece (a hard core hiker told me I should get two. So this time, I ordered better quality and a pair.I'm 5'8" and these poles are longer than my inexpensive one, so that's a plus for me. I also ordered the caps (to keep from stabbing myself when not using them) and some different tips to see which work best on my trails. Highly recommend these poles'
