Excellent piece of kit to add DAB and DAB+ to your HiFi if you are a serious radio listener who continues through a dedicated FM Tuner with the superior sound quality offered by FM music channels. Of course there are music channels like Jazz FM unavailable on FM as well as a plethora of other music channels. But all are of relatively poor quality in terms of sound quality when compared to FM broadcasts via a Tuner connected to a dedicated FM roof antenna. For those who don't have such a set up and who can get the DAB signal this is the ideal next best. And even for those of us with dedicated FM Tuners, there is always the problem of poor AM reception for spoken word radio channels which DAB radio will solve. This little piece of kit will give you DAB and DAB+ for a fraction of the price of a new dedicated Tuner that has both FM and DAB. So why would you want to replace your current FM Tuner with another one which now has DAB when you are not really adding anything to the sonic quality (I am speaking of music here) given the low bitrate compromises that are made by broadcasters favouring quantity over quality in the DAB sphere. And, yes, the DR245 does come with FM. But it is not a serious FM contender compared to dedicated FM Tuners of which there are now only a very few of sonic quality for the discerning music listener. And my point here is amply borne out in the lack of a serious antenna port (F connector) for an FM roof aerial. But even if it did contain such a port, it would still not be a serious FM contender. Which is why the makers probably did not bother too much on the FM side. But as a DAB add on to a HiFi system or any audio system for that matter it is a fantastic piece of kit with a great remote control that is superior to some from kit that costs oodles more than the DR245So why only four stars? The design has some shortcomings. There is an annoying bright light that rings the device when it is turned on. There is an option to have it turn off after three minutes. But you would not know this without wasting time fiddling with the remote control. This light is a piece of technology bling that adds nothing to the device's functionality and is really annoying, lowering the serious aesthetic and technical intent of the device. There should be a way at the very least to disable it. The cable provided detracts from its serious intent as a HiFi add on. Why there is no 3.5mm to RCA amplifier inputs is a mystery. What preamp contains 3.5mm ports? Finally the instructions are poor. A series of diagrams that does not even explain the full functionality of the device let’s the user down somewhat in my opinion. An example being the option on the remote to have the silly ringed light turn off after three minutes.

I’ve got a really good amp, receiver and speakers from the 80s which are still in daily use. I wanted to be able to play music from my laptop and phone via bluetooth and I wanted DAB radio. This device provides those functions and saves me having to shop around for a new stereo.Setting up is easy enough. Plug in the power, connect the device to whatever speakers you have. There’s a 3.5mm socket on the device so you could plug headphones or PC speakers straight in. There is a double male 3.5mm cable in the box. There’s no supplied 3.5mm to RCA cable in the box. I would have needed something like thishttps://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-3-5mm-2-Male-Adapter-Cable/dp/B01D5H8LDM/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=3.5mm+to+rca+cable&qid=1598603894&sr=8-9butI already had one so I plugged that into on my amp. There is a thin wire antenna permanently fixed to the device. This isn’t very long and needs to be mounted on a wall to get a signal.Once I’d done that and turned it on the device scanned and found a number of radio stations. The remote control is really good but if you are scrolling through the list of stations you have to be quite close to be able to see the small screen so it’s a bit redundant unless you set up your favourite stations. This device fills a pretty small niche but does so really wellThe antenna's not removable or replaceable . I live in a bit of a radio dead spot and if I could fit a big coax antenna I would be able to pick up a lot more stations. Also being so short and needing to be raised as high as possible limits where you can locate the device. Practically it needs to be close to a wall so the antenna can be held n place vertically with a blob of blu tac, and close to your speakers or amp.One nice touch is the rather cool clock that displays when you turn the device off.All in all for the price I'm really pleased

Simple, compact, elegant solution for radio and bluetooth audio streaming.- Bluetooth audio output signal is poor (relatively very low voltage p-p) compared to FM / DAB audio output. This meant a big shift in volume level when changing modes and despite the sending device output being wound up to max setting.- A simple but primitive antenna. I would much prefer a micro coaxial output, even if supplied with a simple wire antenna to connect to it. A micro coaxial output connector would permit more elegant antenna solutions to accommodate better positioning or signal gain.- Would benefit from the inclusion of equaliser settings (my amplifier did not have any tone settings either).- Would benefit from an on-board volume control (i.e.available vol up /down buttons / icons).- Would prefer a design that I could more easily disguise / cover over the connections.- Would prefer a 3.5mm to twin RCA patch-lead rather than the 3.5mm to 3,5mm supplied.- There are plenty suitable lower-profile power supplies available than the rather chunky one supplied. All said and done, this is still a smart looking otherwise reasonably easy to use add-on to your own audio set-upRead full review...

Have to say that these are really good (so much so that having tried one I bought a further two for connection to other systems).Neat little design. Natty remote that just works and feels right in one's hand. And I like the analogue clock that displays when in standby.Reception is very good on DAB - even without doing much at all with the aerial lead. But FM needs the lead extended to get nest reception.Gripes? Well, would be nice if it stood on it's side so that one could see the display from a distance (I've wedged them up a bit so that the displays are easier to see without standing right over them). And tied in with that is the plugs / leads are a bit obvious sticking out of the back.Might have been better if the plugs were located in a recess. But overall very good for the price.Read full review...

The perfect solution to adding digital radio to a hifi system that claimed to have DAB but not DAB+ that frankly didn’t work at all well even with a dedicated outdoor aerial, continuous drop-outs, some mumbo-jumbo about multiplexes or too many of them…This August DR245 tuned in 115 DAB channels with the antenna lead still curled up as delivered. However, as a Baby Boomer it was purchased for the sole purpose of listening to Boom Radio which it has done brilliantly. On first switch on, I was mildly disappointed to find that with the hifi volume of my 100 watt system up to maximum, the listening volume was somewhat low, on consulting the quick start guard and finding the device had its own volume control, now I’m annoying the neighbours.Highly recommended.

Great little receiver considering the price, bought to replace a hi-fi tuner that suffered dropouts. Provides good access to many DAB channels and has the added bonus of bluetooth to play music streamed from my phone. Quickly scanned all the available channels although I found it difficult at first to set presets using the picture instructions. Eventually realised that it was better to use the number buttons on the remote to allocate a preset rather than using the OK button. Similarly to recall preset channels. Bluetooth pairing was straightforward. I used a 3mm jack to 2 phono plugs lead, rather that the one provided. Sound quality is fine for my needs (mainly sports broadcasts),although might be improved if there was a digital output.

Excellent little box of tricks. Arrived within 24hrs of order. Brought new life to an old but quality hi-fi system. Why spend shedloads of money on a dab tuner! Minor quibbles, the aerial isn’t the best, and the instructions included are very tricky unless you’re familiar with the style. Plain written ones would be better. Overall though value for money and sound quality is excellent. Just to update - after a bit of tweaking the aerial works well and the remote is working fine to adjust volume and switch unit on and off, but does b- all else! Still highly recommend this item, a brilliant way to upgrade an older hi-fi system.

I bought this because I wanted to add DAB radio functionality to my Edifier Active speakers. My speakers have a few spare inputs, and luckily this DAB Radio has both optical and aux outputs.I have no complaints about the quality of this DAB radio receiver. It's very easy to use. The remote is very easy to understand, and my DAB radio reception has been crystal clear. All-in-all, I have nothing to complain about (maybe just the lack of a coaxial input, so you can use your own aerial). And would encourage anyone who wants to add DAB radio to their Hi-Fi system, to consider this.

I like it very much, can get dab channels and use the remote to change when sponsor advertising comes on. Blue tooth does not transmit and so I cannot walk around with my B.T. headphones listening; it only receives which is a bit pointless as it is not a speaker and you still need to use the 3.5mm jack to feed into a system or hardwired headphones. when switched off, initially to a clock face for 5 seconds, better if it was vertical and stays as a clock in this standby mode. If you call August on their 0845 number expect an extra on your phone bill!

I have been constantly surprised just how good this little radio is, it has completely exceeded my expectations .It also lets me connect my phone via a very good Bluetooth connection so I can play Spotify and other music stored on my phone .The sound quality is superb and reception is extremely good in my area .I find it hard to fault in any way except it would be better if the display was at a little more acute angle to improve visibility from a distance.Overall a no brainier, in fact it’s so good I am going to buy another one right now !

Bought to replace a legacy Curry's own brand. Arrived on speedily and on time. Setup simple, display clear, presets simple, remote OK, instructions/"manual" simple IKEA style but adequate. Only two minor issues, A) supplied cable = 3.5 jack to 3.5 jack and I required 3.5 jack to twin analogue audio, luckily I had spares. B) default volume is low when played through my BOSE 321 system. It was necessary to set it at 85/95% maximum so that our normal BOSE volume did not need to be increased.

I have a Bose radio/CD player that only has AM/FM, having moved to an area that has poor reception the Bose unit became virtually obsolete, I was debating whether to chuck it out, but by chance saw the FM/DAB/DAB+ radio receiver & thought I’d give it a try. Well I’m glad I did! Reasonably easy to set up reception spot on & perfect sounds coming from my almost redundant Bose unit. So far, for me, there are no downsides to the radio receiver.

Excellent device that connects direct to my existing amplifier. Very easy to set up. Connects to radio stations in seconds. The Bluetooth facility works really well for me and I’m able to stream direct from my phone. For the screen to be visible it can’t be placed in the location I would’ve preferred (on a shelf next to the amp, but that’s a minor criticism. Saved me have to fork out on a hi-fi tuner.

My Denon mini system stopped working in DAB and after 2 repairs I gave up on it. With this little unit plugged into it, I've got fantastic sound and it's so easy to use I haven't looked at the instruction booklet. Can't fault it really except it isn't exactly great to look at, with those wires sticking out of the top. For the money, I am very happy with it!I'd recommend one of these to anybody.

Needed a Phono Aux lead to connect this to my 20 year old Bose Wave radio. Once I had, it found all the stations, paired with my phone Bluetooth and just worked. Yes, the instructions are pictures and printed small, but I found them easy enough to follow. It has given my old Bose a new lease of life and I'm really pleased with it. The DAB sound quality is vastly superior to a cheap DAB radio.
