If you want an adjustable desk lamp and you are searching here on Amazon, let me make the choice easy for you. You can either pay under £30 for cheap & cheerful Chinese-made wood/metal copies & "tributes" to Anglepoise lamps - or you can buy an Anglepoise lamp, which may cost you £100 or more. Reading the terrible reviews of the cheap Chinese adjustable lamps sold on Amazon made me want an Anglepoise, so I took the plunge. The Type 75 is not the biggest desk lamp but is a well-made structure, the base is very heavy whilst the arms are surprisingly light. It arrives in its box with two acts of assembly required by you; First loop the 2 outermost springs over their resistor poles, and Second slide the whole arm structure into the base so you can insert & tighten 1 screw to keep the two parts attached. For this Second task, Anglepoise supply you with 1 tiny (3mm) screw and 2 Allen keys. You will only need 1 Allen key to tighten the screw - maybe 30 seconds labour. Then insert the supplied 3w E14 bulb (but see note below) and you are in business. The lamp will hold whatever articulated position you choose very well.Overall, it's a great lamp with 3 provisos;1 In the Anglepoise instructions, it states "Your Anglepoise comes supplied with a 3w E14 LED bulb". It does not - it comes supplied with a 3w E14 CFL bulb. The CFL white is a warm white, suitable for general lighting and reading, however if you prefer a LED bulb (a slightly crisper white) then you need to order something like these;https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06Y3BWTGZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1This is a pack of 2 Amazon Basics 5.5w E14 LED bulbs for which I paid £6.79. The 5.5w is equivalent to 40w incandescent and LEDs are generally more energy-efficient than CFLs so will consume less power.2 As there is only a 3mm screw holding the arm structure into the base, do not lift the whole lamp up by its arms. You risk the weight of the base slightly distorting the tiny screw and the assembly detaching.3 Is the lamp worth over £100? Good question. If you read all the reviews of the cheap lamps (broken arms, blown bulbs etc) then you are wasting your money on the cheap ones. But £100+ seemed a lot to me so after some careful poking around the Amazon site I found a new Powder Blue Type 75 with damaged packaging that could be bought for £80.84 from Amazon. I feel I have got my money's worth.

I really like this lamp. It's black, so suits anywhere I put it. I'm using it as a desk lamp, which I think is the best use for it.I probably don't need to explain how well it moves and can be adjusted. It comes with a bulb and the booklet says if you use a different type of bulb the balance will be affected. I've replaced it with an LED bulb, which is twice the weight, but I don't find it to affect the balance so much that it is annoying. It's hard to detect - I do think it perhaps moves very slightly once you've lowered or raised it, but it's hardly visible. I had trouble finding a bulb that wasn't "warm white" - but eventually managed to find one that was a bit whiter, which I think is better for a desk lamp.I'd probably recommend going for a bulb that isn't too bright though. The base is heavy and keeps the lamp in place. The switch is on the cord as in the picture. The cord itself is not extremely long, but for use as a desk lamp my sockets are close anyway, so it's the perfect length for me.Annoyingly, the paint has come off slightly on the edge of a part of the main frame. It's black though - so I've just filled it in with black ink for now. It's annoying to notice it though. It would have probably got 5 stars if it wasn't for this and the statement about the bulb affecting balance - I much prefer to use the type of bulb I have now.

I ordered this product in a fit of annoyance with cheap electricals. My existing desk lamp was an Anglepoise-wannabe with a clamp that fell apart every time you adjusted it. I finally had enough and went out to get an inexpensive lamp to replace it. Appalled by the general shoddyness of the offerings in my local shops, I went online to look at Anglepoise lamps, thinking they would be a bit more expensive but a lot better. I'd had one of the 1930s originals in my student digs in the 80s that was still going strong fifty years later, so I figured the quality should be good. I was fairly surprised at how much they were and had a twang of guilt for spending so much on a small desk lamp. However now it has arrived I have to say I am extremely pleased with it. It fits my desk beautifully, it is well made, solid but slender, perfectly functional and unobtrusive. As a general purpose task light for a work space, I think the 75 mini is a much better option than larger lamps in the range and it is way sturdier and better made than its imitators. I was concerned that the maximum recommended rating for the bulb would be a bit too dim, but it gives a really pleasant pool of light which good to work in and is easy on the eyes.

I was looking for a compact desk lamp, and was on the verge of purchasing an Artemide Micro. Thankfully, I managed to view the Artemide in a department store, and was not overly impressed. I thought the finish was a little shoddy in places, and it had a rather cheap look not befitting of the huge price tag.Already being the owner of a beautiful Anglepoise 1227, I looked at Anglepoise again and found the type 75 mini. After a bit of deliberation, I chose the white colour due to its lower price and the fact it will be inoffensive in just about any room. The lamp has a subtle satin sheen that looks very contemporary and sophisticated.Quality is spot on again, with those classic steel Anglepoise springs and fittings.Adjustment and position holding are excellent, just like its bigger relatives.NO BULB INCLUDED! (says so on the box), so get a compact SES bulb. Needs to be short otherwise the end will poke out of the shade. Not sure if this Kenneth Grange design will become a classic like the 1227 (or his Intercity 125 train!), but it is a lovely looking lamp that will no doubt do it's job for the next 20 years.

Love this lamp. It's got a matte finish and the springs move effortlessly up and down. It's also beautiful to look at. I was debating between this and the larger 75, but this fits my desk perfectly. It also feels nice and solid, and hoping that the extra money spent means it will last longer than the cheapie one it is replacing! A lightbulb (incandescent bulb) was supplied with mine, and is this horrible to admit, but I miss the bright, warm light of these old type of bulbs. Will see what happens when I replace the bulb with an energy-saver one and see if the weight is thrown off. So far, though, so good.UPDATE: 3/12/18 - Four years on, this lamp has been WELL WORTH the extra money paid. It's as robust and springy as the day I bought it. I am so happy with it, I bought a second one when I saw it in the Black Friday sale. To those of you who say when you lift the lamp from the top, and the base falls off, you need to screw in the little screw that comes with the lamp into the tiny hole at the base. I totally missed this with my first lamp, but noticed it in the directions of the second one.

I'd looked at a lot of lamps for my home office in the last few weeks. The standard Anglepoise was simply too big. This lamp seemed like the perfect size so I took a chance.I've been very impressed with it. You may need to tighten up some of the screws with the supplied allen key to make the lamp hold position. Everything about the lamp makes you feel like it's a quality engineered product. The website pictures makes the lamp look like it has a shiny red finish, but it's actually a matt finish which I really like.It should be noted that on the website it states that a bulb is not supplied, on the box itself it says that a bulb is not supplied. On opening the box I found that a bulb IS supplied! On the basis of the website however, I'd ordered a "Sylvania Energy Saving Ball 6,000 Hour 9w (40w Equivalent) SES / E14 / Small Edison Screw Cap Warmwhite" energy saving bulb which is what I'm using with it and I'm impressed with that too.

I’ve bought several Anglepoise lamps over the past 35 years or so. I have two in my back office running 24/7, (one acting as an uplighter), which have had a variety of bulbs (incandescent spots, CFL and now LED). The heat from the old 60W incandescents did some cumulative damage to the sockets so I replaced them with brass ones. The Type 75 Mini is very much in the same mould as the original: a beautiful design and quality construction. It’s a bargain at this price with the full size ones typically more than double the price. I bought my first two in Argos back in the early 80s and IIRC I paid around £12 for each, and they were made in the UK! Sadly, that is no longer case.If you want a nice quality desk lamp, look no further. The Anglepoise will last for ever (assuming you treat it with respect) and put a smile on your face every time you use it.This item is/was supplied with a 5.5W 470lm E14 2700K [A+] LED bulb in the box.

I had been looking for a desk lamp like this for a longer time. When I found this lamp at last, I wanted to buy it, but found it rather expensive in Germany. When I got the idea of trying amazon.uk, I found it much less expensive, even though I had to spend some money on shipping and install a different plug. (A visit to UK might have been even better :))The lamp is nice to look at, if you are fond of non-shining finish, and gives splendid light for all kinds of small work you can do on a desk. For more special purposes you might need the 'big sister' no 75, but for 'normal' work the 'mini' will do! It's not just a lamp for kids, and does not look like it,either! The technical functions (moving the shadow in whatever direction and keep it in its place) are convincing.I hope my English is not too clumsy and this review may help people to find out, whether or not this lamp might be suitable for their purpose!

I purchased this lamp in one of Amazons lightning sales and am very pleased with it for what I paid. I'd be less likely to buy it at its full price but that's due to my finances, if you have the money to spare go for it - you won't be disappointed. All the parts are high quality and are very easy to assemble, it took me about 5 minutes. The base is solid and heavy which means it stays in place when moving the lamp head to different positions. Older Anglepoise lamps used to have the switch on top of the head but whether this is better or not depends on where you have the lamp positioned - in my case it's easier to have the switch on the cable. The only problem I've had with it is the supplied bulb blew after a couple of days but that was a problem with the bulb not the lamp itself.

There are many products and brands that claim to be iconic but there aren't that many with the design credentials to back up the claim. The British lighting design company Anglepoise easily falls into the iconic category with the smooth multi-angle balance mechanism from the 1930s embodied in the 1227. I've always wanted an Anglepoise lamp and when a Type 75 mini desk lamp appeared in Amazon's Black Friday deals, I clicked on "Buy".Assembly is easy - pop the spigot into the base and secure with a grub screw, then hook the springs over the bars. Job done.Overall, I'm delighted and loving it on my desk at work. So much so,I've put a 1228 with a mid green shade on my wishlist but Santa will need to be especially generous this year.

I should have got one years ago rather than suffer the cheap lookalikes that never work as intended. This is pure class and functional design with the best quality materials used. Its so easy to use and manoeuvre into any position so its great for general desk lamp use and for fine detail craft and electronics. The powder blue colour looks great in our setting but they have many other colour options. I am now tempted to get one of their outsize floor-standers that will make everything else in a room look lilliputian. Before buying I checked for local 2nd hand lamps and its noticeable that Anglepoise lamps retain their value very well, again indicating the high quality of their products.

These are not cheap, but you can't knock their engineering brilliance. The movement is smooth, and the balance is perfect, meaning you can move the lamp head to wherever you want it with a finger and know that it will remain there.Like others, I took advantage of a Black Friday Lightning deal. I had missed it in 2013, so was glad to see it return - and they come up quite often. Full price takes some justification I think for a desk lamp, even if the build is impressive, but when it's half price it's a definite bargain. But if you're someone who regularly needs their lamp to move around (a modeller or painter, for example), I still highly recommend this.

As others have noted, this is great lamp. Quality build, looks good. However, note that while the specification indicates it comes with an LED bulb, in fact it comes with a CFL bulb. This bulb does not come on immediately - it takes maybe 30 seconds to warm up. Further, the quality of light differs from a regular bulb or a quality LED bulb - it is not something which I would want to use long-term. So if you buy this lamp, be prepared to buy a different bulb if you want the best light and most energy efficient bulb (the CFL consumes 60% more electricity than a comparable 5.5w LED - much less than a regular bulb, but still...).

I wanted a desk lamp for my sons room and after a long and fruitless search found Anglepoise mini desk lamp in powder blue. The colour is subtle. The base of the lamp is weighted o ensure stability, a must for a bedside lamp in a child's room, even with a bit of enthuastic pulling and pushing this is not going to fall over. It was easy to assemble and despite what the label on the box indicated, it did come with a bulb - which meant the lamp could be assembled, plugged in and used from the get go.Altogether a great product, which i would purchase again. which is probably just as well as now my daughter wants one!

Functional and aesthetic! A joy to look at and use for bedtime reading and would also be great on a desk or beside the armchair. The blue is a perfect shade and I am very happy with the purchase. Not sure if the bulbs are readily available locally but they are easily found online. The angle poise design is a timeless classic and this particular mini model is neat, stable and looks like a quality item. You just need to measure the extension that you need from the base position in order to decide whether you need this or a full size model.
