This is an excellent knife, that like all Victorinox products, is very well crafted and of premium quality. The predominant tool is, of course, the knife, with a one-handed opening thumb hole, and a liner-lock. The liner lock seems to be most easily accessed by the left hand. The knife is about three and a half inches long, which as well as being a locking blade, makes this illegal to carry in public in the UK. The last part of the blade is serrated, which improves its ability to cut cord and such. The point of the blade is also fairly blunt, while the actual blade is razor sharp. The bottle opener / flat screwdriver also has a liner lock. Another feature (which I have not worked out yet)is the wire stripper on the bottle opener. The can opener has a much finer flat screwdriver than the bottle opener. The saw is excellent, and cuts through even green limbs fairly easy. The reamer/hole punch is very sharp, and has a concave edge. There's also the fairly well situated philips screwdriver on the back of the knife, which allows you to get a very good T-grip, and apply plenty of torque.Overall, the quality of the materials, and the durability and quality of the construction are excellent. The stainless steel is very well polished, to a mirror, and seems very tough. The handle also seems solid, and there is no give in the various components. The knife and bottle opener are very securely held by the liner lock. There should be no fear of the knife closing on your hands. The actual opening and closing is very smooth, but with a certain amount of resistance. As for the one-handed opening system, I am left handed, and oddly enough, it seems to work best for me. The liner lock is better placed to be closed by a lefty, though it can be opened by either hand. The knife is fairly weighty, and feels very solid. It's quite large, and requires the larger pouch.I would recommend buying the Victorinox leather pouch to hold it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0001P14OU/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_5Keeping it in the pocket can get dirt and detritus in the mechanism. That's just me though.I would highly recommend this tool, though if in the UK, I would only recommend buying if you either have a valid reason for carrying it, or just keep it in private property. This lands solidly in the illegal to carry category.

I bought this to customise and replace the Phillips screwdriver with a corkscrew, add a non serrated blade and modify the scales to accepts the pin, toothpick, pen and tweezers. It's a great knife but single handed opening of the knife is difficult and although Victorinix suggest that on the packaging (cheap blister pack) my guess is the original military design spec required a knife that could be opened with gloved hands. I rate my SAKs over Leatherman for almost everything but the Soldiers Knife still uses the heavy spring back that would normally hold a blade in place of the lock and this causes a lot of resistance. To overcome this the raised loop in the blade is placed further back down the blade meaning your thumb needs to move through a large arc to open in one go. It can be done but the Leatherman's lack of friction and small thumb movement makes it better. One handed operation is irrelevant to me and this knife is so well made and the blade finished to standards above SAK expectation. My only issue is why on earth do Victorinox use Phillips screwdriver tools in Europe where almost everything is Pozidrive? In the US and Japan Phillips would be useful but here both the screw and the tool just get damaged. Apart from that this is one of the best Swiss Army Knives I have ever bought

This is serious kit. Very well made and designed. One hand opening of large blade (u-tube videos out there on correct method to do this safely with your thumb) once practiced a few times is actually a very useful feature in a number of real life situations when for whatever reason you have only one hand free to open up the blade. The locking on main blade and large screw driver is solid, adding to the safety of this tool in use. With A LOT of practice it is possible to safely de-lock main blade with one hand, again handy to be able to do in some situations. The blades are razor sharp from new and hold there edge surprisingly well in use, with correct sharpening techniques no reason they shouldn’t continue to do so for a very long time to come.I’d recommend buying the official Victorinox 4.0822.4 belt pouch for this item, which is equally well designed despite first appearing rather flimsy is actually surprisingly hard wearing and well designed.

Nb. This is lockable so illegal to carry unless you have a cast iron reason to carry it.I have several swiss army non lockable knives and wanted a lockable knife for my work as an engineer. Bigger than my camping non lockable by about 20mm but still not so big that it doesn't fit in trouser or jeans pocket. One handed operation to get the knife out but more difficult to get back in as the spring steel that needs to be pressed in my opinion the wrong direction so requires both hands. All the implements are the usual handy items found on swiss army knives but I've always found the small scissors on my others as being very handy but couldn't find a lockable one that has scissors?.The gardeners model of this type has a type of secuteers but not scissors. All in all great idea but just needed slightly better closing mechanism and the option for scissors.

This is my first victorinox personal survival and camp utility knife. It is a superb piece of work. I could sense it's sturdiness and strength when I first held it in my hand. The knife main blade and wood saw are mounted in a compact folding system that translates into a capable cutting system ideal for my camp and woodland requirements. It has just the right selection of folding tools presented in a sturdy hand held piece. This utility knife is excellent value for money and will give me years of dependable and satisfying service. Thanks to Amazon for having this quality item displayed on their website. Best regards as always, Breiffni Hogan.

The knife is weighty and the grip is very comfortable. The blade can be opened with just the thumb of the hand that holds the knife - it's a gimmick, but I guess it could come in handy in some contrived emergency where you only have one hand; like that chap that caught his hand between two rocks on a mountain and had to saw his hand off - this would be the ideal knife for that situation. The quality of construction is very high, as you would expect. And if you're a Swiss Army Knife fanatic, you'll appreciate the extra length on the saw blade - look up Felix Immler on YouTube for tips.

I’ve just brought the Victorinox soldiers knife to replace a knife I’ve lost the knife is built to the usual excellent standard we expect from all Victorinox products it was fairly sharp straight out of the box but scary sharp after a few seconds on a strop the knife fits well in the hand and feels like it will be comfortable to use on many cutting tasks overall I’m very happy with the knife and expect to get many years of use from it I would highly recommend the knife.

The only issue I have with this knife is that I’m right handed so it’s awkward to close with one hand. But that’s not really a feature of locking knives. If you’re considering it, keep in mind that the serrated part of the blade requires different techniques to sharpen.Maybe some day the scales might wear off so I can replace them with bright yellow. If I drop this in the woods, I’ll never find it.

This is a very good knife with all the right tools (no useless Cork Screw on this model) it is only slightly let down by the main blade. I would have preferred the slightly older style blade with a sharper more pointed tip and without the ugly one handed opening hole on top of the blade which is not particularly effective anyway. Great knife for campers, gardeners and DIY enthusiasts.

This my friends is a quality pocket knife.Sharp and large enough to impale garden slugs no problem. Why bother buying slug pellets, when you can have fun slaughtering the useless pests. I find the serrated edge is great for dicing them up as a tasty addition to any stir fry. Also super easy to clean off slug remnants.Great buy.

By far my favourite Swiss army knife that I have ever owned, and I have owned a few. This is in my opinion the best utility knife on the market. You know that it's good when militaries from around the world (so far Germany and the USA, but the US one is black)are adopting it!

Must have...very sturdy and best part is the grip. Just fits in the palm. The blade is just right size for many needs...One more thing, i must compliment...excellent customer service by Amazon guy...Jerry... thumbs up for the product and Amazon

Brilliant knife, access to the main blade is much easier due to the loop pull. The blade holds a wicked edge and has not dulled.locking mechanism is relatively stiff to start with. All other tools are well designed and useful

Love this knife.sharp as a razor out of the box, feels good in the hand and the saw is pretty viscous pity it isn't legal to carry in the UK. didn't take long to work out how to close with my right hand either
